The Sims 4 Guide Development

Here is a Guide to Gameplay Features in The Sims 4, which will get updated as we learn more about the upcoming game. I have also written my observations on The Sims 4 Create-a-Sim Playable Demo. I will say here that I do intend to write a Strategy Guide for the Sims 4 upon release. This site has been successful and has an active community, and I'll make sure that lives on. Thankfully, I have Pam and Tom to aid me in Guide development and will quickly begin releasing articles once the game releases. Until then, you can contribute to The Sims 4 site development and design by making a Donation or linking to our site. You can also aid us by visiting here and using one of our links to shop through EA Origin, Amazon, Gamestop, or - we'll earn a small commission on something you would have bought anyway. I appreciate any help in this, as players are slowly losing interest in The Sims 3 and any donations will offset server and development costs.

The Sims 3 Roaring Heights Guide

We now have a Guide to Roaring Heights with Maps to Collectibles along with information on the Premium Content that comes with this new Town. There is a Boardwalk with Rollercoaster parts to allow you to build your own, along with new clothing and a fixer-upper car that Sims can use to fix up a vehicle to drive around town or sell for a huge profit. Check the Guide to learn more and see if this town is right for you!

The Sims 3 Dragon Valley World Guide

Dragon Valley Guide

The Sims 3 Dragon Valley WorldRicalynn has written a Guide to the Sims 3 Dragon Valley World. It is fully featured and covers places in the town itself, Baby Dragons that are included with the World, a list of residents, and collectibles maps that will help you find all the rare things you need like Palladium, Pink Diamonds, and Alley Catfish to catch Angel Fish and reel in those Death Fish after midnight. This is the first in a series, with the next coverage featuring Aurora Skies. Rica has accepted to cover all the Worlds in this style, and that has me enthused about the quality of information I will happily host here. It appears we'll have the most comprehensive information on worlds all in one place here, but it'll take some time.

About Carl's Sims 3 Site

The Sims 3 Base GameBorn July 16, 2009, this Strategy Guide seeks to help Simmers from all over the world with detailed and informative articles, hints, and tips for The Sims 3 and its expansions. We largely favor a powergamer mindset, and shoot for making the most money, finding how it works, or doing things better and more efficiently. You'll find step-by-step instructions, and screenshots to help you accomplish things in the Sims 3. Collectively, we've written over 200 pages of content for the game. If you'd like to see a listing of every article we offer, have a look at our Sitemap. There you'll find a full list of articles, along with a search tool that will help you to track down the info you need.

We have a staff of 3, with Pam Marsden and Tom Schlueter helping Carl with guide writing and the forum. If you explore the guide you'll see we've had lots of help from our growing forum community. We have numerous volunteer moderators. To learn a little about our staff, visit the Staff section of our Sims 3 Forum. Many of our moderators have supplied walkthroughs or in-depth articles for the Guide.

If you don't yet have an account, sign up at our forum to provide tips and tricks, suggestions, and corrections to the guide. You'll be helping me to improve something that has helped over 100,000 Simmers from around the world. The Sims 3 is far more complex than meets the eye, and without readers like you this guide wouldn't be nearly as accurate and helpful as it is today.

Players are able to contribute information through the comments system. This allows the site to function somewhat as a Wiki, for players can enter additional information and discuss game mechanics to help other Simmers. Questions about the game and specific features can be asked on those pages, although I (Carl) cannot answer them all. Do not expect answers to be swift unless you use our Forum. Many bits of helpful information can be found using the site's search function, which goes through about 20,000 pages of content to help you find an answer to your questions.

Why did you ban me? What if the accounts of "GaiaMIX" and "Kaiko Espurr Mikkusu" were not operated by the same people? I know many people are really, really obsessed with Blair. So, both me and KEM are obsessed with Blair but KEM i believe is actually a group of tight-knit trollish people or something! A lot of people like the Wainwright's, this is why they're fan favorites!!! So i'm not\are not KEM.

Can you remodel all of the dormitories in Sims 3 University, or just the one you claim? In some of the videos I've watched many of the appliances break easily and the the appliances are outdated. I'm guilty of using the money cheat so I can use my sims more, and I always make my houses to the extreme, it one of my favorite parts of the sims. But if I'm living in the dorms I want them to look nice.

when is the earliest that you can save a new game on sims3? My daughter spent hours creating a new game and family, but a power failure occurred and when the PC restarted and she launched sim3 again that new game had disappeared.
We cannot find an "auto save" type option in the game settings either?

Is Union Cove available on the Sims 3 Exchange? I don't know how to download custom content and I just download stuff off the Exchange. If anyone could tell me that would be great!! :)

Carl says...
UC is not available on the Exchange. At one point, another person uploaded it without permission and it had to be taken down. Now even we can't upload it. The process is as simple as downloading the file and opening it, the launcher takes care of the rest.

I think there might be a bug with the athletic skill in this expansion. I started snorkeling and when I went home my athletic skill kept gaining. I reached level four by just sleeping on my house boat. So maybe that is why some players report gaining athletic skill constantly while they snorkel.
This is an old bug made more common with the expansion. If you reset your Sim, they will stop gaining the skill.

I played TS3 base game Sunset Valley on my cousin's laptop while she was on vacation. When she returned, I decided that I loved the game so much so I purchased the Starter Pack. I exported my family and house and installed the .sims3pack to my personal laptop. [NOTE: One of my sims had married a premade SV sim (Jamie Jolina). While I played on my cousin's laptop, I changed her name to Claire and turned her into a brunette.]

Because my sim had married a premade SV character, when I installed my family into a new save file in SV world, there are now two Jamie Jolinas that my sim is married too. The renamed Claire was imported and shows on my sims relationship panel as wife, but he also has the premade Jamie of that world in his panel as his wife even though he hasn't talked to anyone in town yet. His family tree shows the blonde Jamie, not his brunette Claire.
I've never heard of this happening before. If you'd like to - there is a free world to download from the Sims 3 store that is just as good as Sunset Valley called Riverview and maybe it wouldn't make a mess of the family tree.
4th July 2013 2:55pm
Jeff says...
Will this be fixed if I delete the premade Jamie? If so, how would I do that? Should I just import my family to another world instead, like Riverview? I have LN, but I don't want them in the city. OR should I just transfer the whole save file to my laptop? Idk how to do that though and my cousin's TS3 was unpatched. I'm patched all the way to the most recent one already.

Thank you in advance. This website has been very useful for me.

P.s. any TS3 official worlds you recommend? Or CC worlds too that need only LN?

what exactly are spawners!?

Thanks :)
Spawners are what the game uses to designate exactly where something will appear.  All seeds, insects, fish and seashells are spawned by a spawner.  Even the sharks have spawners.

Hey there experiencing the same prob with my sims 3 IP. Im still unable to use my testingcheatsenabled true (shift click mail box)cheat. I cleared my cache files as u said and also did a factory reset...any more suggestions plzzzzzzzzzzz?
I would suggest posting on our forums to see if other members are experiencing this, experienced this and fixed it or what have you.   When you did the factory reset, you made sure not to download anything or move any files over right?  Also have you thought of uninstalling IP and reinstalling it?

I want to share some information which I feel will help those struggling with running Sims 3 Seasons and University with more success on a MAC. Recently I struggled with the same problems and discovered the crashes happened when my Time Machine was backing up. Whether it is the ultimate culprit or not, I do not know. Upon stopping the back up and turning off Time Machine I launched again and everything ran perfectly, perhaps more smoothly than before. If you are part of a forum for which this has been an ongoing topic please pass along this information. I am sharing it here because Carl has quite the nice site and I have enjoyed the wealth of information. (I performed no other actions other than turning off Time cache removal or file rearranging.)

So I'm kind of Sim had parents that lived in a separate house, they died and now I cant find there ashes to properly bury them....Is there a way I could find them? I tried looking at the house they owned but its not there
Go to the mausoleum in the graveyard and manage the dead to find their tombstones. As long as you had a good enough relationship with them, they should be there.

It should be handled now.  If you need more help, let me know but if you can get on the forum and need more help - This is Ricalynn.

hi, i was just wondering if you can own pets in this game like you can in the sims 2 pets game.. or not. i really wanna get this game it looks cool, but i just wanted to know if you can own animals and if you can actually see where ur sim is going to work or school and such. could someboy possibly know the answer? Thanks!
25th April 2013 5:30pm
Emma says...
Yes and No. You can own pets in The Sims 3 game but you have to have the Pets expansion pack to do so. Like Sims 2 basically! Hope that helps!
2nd May 2013 9:07pm
Emma says...
Oh and for your other question- for work- most places are rabbit holes UNLESS you add the Ambitions expansion pack which is where your Sims can work out of home or in a building where you can see what they are doing.
for School- you can not see the sims at school since that is also a rabbit hole. However if you order and download Sims 3 University expansion pack- which works almost exactly like Sims 2 College Life. Hope this also helps!!
2nd May 2013 9:10pm
Potato says...
Yes, you can own pets, but you must buy the Pets expansion pack. You can see where your Sim is, but you cannot go into the work or school location. I'm sure you can discover more things about the Sims when you get into it, so my advice is to definitely buy the game and start playing!

Hi Brittanie,

Yes you can have pets (dogs, cats, horses, unicorns fully playable and others that just look pretty like birds and turtles etc), but you need the Pets expansion pack. So if this is what you're interested in, you'll need to buy the Sims 3 base game AND the Pets expansion. You should definitely get it. Sims is the best :)
