The Sims 3 Career Traits for Good Worker Sims
This Sims 3 Guide was originally written for the PC and Mac versions of the game, but also will help owners of the console versions - PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Please remember some info or numbers may have changed.This is a sampling of good example traits that benefit Sims for careers in the Sims 3 specifically. Note that I'm not including any traits that improve skills (other than charismatic). So naturally, your Sim will do well if they have skills that are suited to the job requirements. These traits specifically help a Sim's work performance, and may be useful for some Sims, especially a Sim pursuing the Jack of All Trades Lifetime Wish.
Ambitious
The Ambitious trait helps Sims in careers in several ways. First, they'll get more lifetime happiness points for every wish they complete. This includes the lifetime wish. That helps because they will be able to afford lifetime rewards sooner than other Sims. They'll be interested in moving up their chosen career track, so will get plenty of wishes related to that. Also, they have an easier time getting promotions. They're even good at getting raises.
The one downside is that there is occasionally an axious to advance moodlet that can cause a dip in mood. This can be alleviated by getting a promotion.
Charismatic
Charismatic Sims are better at making friends in general, and will certinaly make plenty of friends at work. If your Sim has co-worker relationship requirements to climb the career ladder, then take this trait. It will help with making friends in every way. Invite co-workers over for a focused chat and win their friendship.
Over Emotional
I'm a big fan of this trait for all aspects of the Sims 3, especially job performance for Sims in career tracks where mood matters for job performance. Promotions come faster the happier they are. If you can get your Sim happy for work with a few positive moodlets, and no negative moodlets when they're on their way out the door, you're in great shape. The more moodlets the better. Over Emotional gives a +25% boost to all active moodlets on a Sim. The downside is that it gives a boost to negative moodlets as well. If you can learn to overcome this challenge, your Sim's mood requirement at work should always be solid green. It's one of my favorite traits in the Sims 3.
Friendly
Friendly Sims are better at making friends at work. Just like with Charismatic, if your Sim doesn't need co-worker relationships at work, don't bother with this one.
Schmoozer
Schmoozers gain a direct bonus to improving relationships with bosses and co-workers while at work. When your Sim has a job in a career track that involves both of these factors for promotion, this trait is invaluable. Chat is replaced with Schmooze, which is a bit better at building relationships. Meet with co-workers, or help the boss, to see the benefits at work. Very powerful with the attractive lifetime reward. I'd recommend it highly for a jack of all trades Sim who will work their way up multiple career ladders.
Workaholic
Combine workaholic with Schmoozer and Ambitious and you have a Sim that is amazing at getting promotions and raises. On the one side, they can do it automatically better at work with ambitious. On the other, they are better at asking bosses for raises with workaholic. Combine this with Schmoozer, which boosts the success rate when you ask a Sim for something, and your Sim will get that raise in no time.
But it doesn't end there for the workaholic trait. Workaholics are much better at avoiding stress at work, and even gets a nice moodlet while working. As such, they can use the work hard style of working more often. They can work at home, with a computer, as well, which will further help to boost job performance. They can't get promoted while working at home, but they can maximize the bar!
