The Sims 3 Music Career Track
This Sims 3 Guide was originally written for the PC and Mac versions of the game, but also will help owners of the console versions - PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Please remember some info or numbers may have changed.
The Sims 3's music career track jobs can be applied for at the theater in town. The music track has two branches that are chosen after promotion level 5. Sims can choose between rock and symphonic career branches. Both can hold autograph sessions at high job level to make extra money on the side. Hold these session during the day for maximum effect.
Both branches of the music career track require guitar. Sims who elect to take the composer path will require the logic skill at high levels.

Good Traits for The Sims 3's Music Career Track
Artistic
Artistic will help with either branch in the music career track, through its boost to the guitar skill's learning rate.
Virtuoso
The virtuoso trait will make your Sim better at guitar overall, and should boost performance in either of the career track's branches.
Schmoozer
Since either branch requires relationships with your bandmates, the Schmoozer trait can come in handy to befriend them while your Sim is on the job. Good for rock stars or composers.
Genius
If you're going the composer route, consider taking this trait to make logic easier to learn. It's useless for rock stars, however. Keep in mind that your composer could be blindsided by the logic requirements that suddenly appear as a performance metric at level 8. It might be better to start raising this earlier, rather than later if you're going with that branch.
