The Sims 3 Unversity Life Expansion PackTo join the Video Game Developer Career offered with The Sims 3 University, players must first earn max level with the Nerd Social Group. Sims are able to work from home on a laptop (provided) during work hours. The Engineer branch can do this as early as level 5, while Artist gets the ability at level 8 when the two branches re-merge. At level 7, both receive a permanent discount on all electronics purchases. Studio Heads can hold a Video Game Convention at the theater in town, which can earn several thousand Simoleons and occasionally provides some random "swag". Like the other UL careers, Video Game Developers get no unique uniforms.

When you return to town from the University, you'll get a career offer. If you max rep with the Nerds at home, a popup will appear offering you to join. If you turn it down, it should be available to you via the computer.

Does anyone know if this career has any career rewards? Other than the laptop? I haven't tried it yet.

Oh my goodness, it's like the developers read my mind. It's not exactly what I would have expected, but it gives me enough of a reason to get University. (Yes, I'm the same person as over on the Forums.)

Oh, and while it certainly doesn't take the cake as the top-paying career like the Hacker career track in The Sims: Livin' Large, it certainly comes close. I think I'll ask my sister (who owns University) what she thinks of it. Though, I have my doubts that she'd like the career track as she already somewhat considers me a "nerd".

I've been having horrible bugs with this career track. I can't even go to work. The "at work" action pops up and just goes away. The car comes in the morning, but my sim can't get into it. Annoying.

That's not a pproblem with the career, its a general glitch. the problem is the sim is attempting to change into their career outfit but its glitching out because some careers (like this one) don't have a uniform , or because the graduation robes are set as career outfit (also a glitch).

To fix it go 'plan outfit' on a set of drawers and make yourself a 'career 2' outfit and use that-

Your sim wont be able to go to work if she's pregnant. If sim is a boy, he could still be pregnant because of aliens (seasons needed).

I can't get the 'Playing Games' metric to rise. I've tried playing games on the computer, on the game system both online and offline, with others and alone, and playing arcade games. It always stays a red angry face. What am I doing wrong?

I think its a glitch... I do not know how to fix it... probably quit the career and rejoin it

To get the Game Developer Career you must go to the Business Building and join career there.

I've been wondering this, but does playing video games affect how well your video game ocnventions do or is it purely random?

You work from 1 to 7 now and make only 400 and something an hour Monday Wednesday and Friday but it's still good. The Video game conference can pay from 3 to 6 thousand I have seen so far.

I seem to have a horrid glitch. I was offered this job when I hit Nerd level 10, however when I clicked "accept career" it didn't take the job. Furthermore attempting to get the job from the PC or career building just resets my sim, and trying to add the job via "testingcheats" does nothing.

Coca-Clark says...
Does anyone know if this career will fulfill the "CEO of a Mega Corperation" lifetime wish?
29th September 2013 2:51pm
Ivy says...
I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that will only be fulfilled once you reach level 10 of the business career.
