The Sims 3 Challenge
Centurian Couple's Challenge

By Pam Marsden

This walkthrough is for the Centurian's Couple's Challenge, written by Metropolis Man and posted in the forum. The goal is to start with a Young Adult couple and achieve as much Net Worth and Lifetime Happiness Points as possible in 100 days. Both Sims have to be in the same career (Music, Criminal, or Law Enforcement) and chose different paths when the career splits after level 5. Click here to see the rules for the challenge and current leader board. Register and post your score to join the competition.

My Sims are Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. They are in the music career. Ozzy has a Lifetime Wish to be a Rock Star and Sharon's wish is to be a Hit Movie Composer.

Ozzy's traits are:

Virtuoso - This trait will help make Ozzy successful at playing the guitar, which is a key component to the Music career. He will gain guitar skill faster and make more from tips with the Virtuoso trait.

Artistic - This trait will work nicely with the Virtuoso trait for Ozzy's guitar skill. He'll also be successful as a painter to make some extra money on the side.

Charismatic - The Charismatic trait will make it easier for Ozzy to make friends and build the good relationships he'll need with his co-workers in order to get promoted up the Music ladder quickly.

Ambitious - This trait will keep Ozzy focused on his career and advancing. He'll advance through the Music career and be able to make big money early in his life.

Lucky - The Lucky trait helped bring the Lifetime Wish of Rock Star when combined with the other traits. I had to juggle traits a little to get Rock Star to come up. It may not help his career a lot, but it certainly won't hurt.

Sharon's traits:

Sharon has the traits of Virtuoso, Artistic, and Charismatic for the same reasons as Ozzy. However, her last two traits are different.

Handy - Sharon will be able to fix anything and everything that breaks in the house. This will be very useful and will save them a lot of money in repair bills over the 100 days of the challenge.

Natural Cook - Everyone has to eat, right? With this trait, Sharon will be able to develop her cooking skill so that they have good meals that will bring positive moodlets and help them be more successful overall.

On their first day in Riverview, Ozzy and Sharon built a small house on a small lot. Keeping the sizes small enabled them to spend a little more on the furnishings. They have an upgraded bed, shower, sink, toilet, refrigerator, stove, and cabinets. They also each have a guitar, of course. Their first day also included a visit to the art museum and a trip to the theater to find jobs. Both started as a Level 1 Fan for $21 per hour.

Although Ozzy doesn't have the Party Animal trait, he likes to throw parties. He threw one on their second day of work and another a few days later. Both Ozzy and Sharon have a wish to befriend all their co-workers, so a party was a good way to get them all together. Ozzy and Sharon spent some time with everyone and improved their relationships with two co-workers each. By hanging out with band members while at work, they will be able to get their wishes soon.

They received their promotions to Level 2 Roadies on the same day, increasing their salary to $25 per hour. Another promotion to Level 3 Stagehand at $30 per hour quickly followed for Sharon. Ozzy came in with the promotion the next day. They are keeping up with each other pretty well in the early levels of their careers. They're cute in their matching uniforms.

These two have trouble with woohoo. I wouldn't have expected it with their personality traits, but they get moody about it. One gets affectionate and the other responds as I'd expect, but when it comes time for woohoo, the recipient gets touchy about it. I switched it around so that the recipient was making the advances and it happened again! They were both tired, but not so much that it should have made woohoo so difficult. This has happened 3 times so far and they even got creeped out with each other one of the times. They both had the creeped out moodlet, which was a first for me.

There won't be any children in this challenge, so all their money will be spent on themselves. The first thing they did was to add a deck onto the back of the house. There will be many home improvements along the way. Maybe even a move to another house with more space for entertaining at some point.

By the end of their second week, they had both reached level 6 in the Music career. Ozzy chose the Rock Label and Sharon chose the Symphonic Label. At this point, their careers go in different directions. As a Level 6 Lyracist, Ozzy now makes $104 per hour while Sharon only makes $85 per hour as a Quartet Member. Sharon also has the Professional Slacker reward, so she can slack off at work and still make progress toward her next promotion. Ozzy's Ambitious trait ensures that he will be promoted quickly through the ranks.

They both have a new wish to play guitar at a party, plus Ozzy has a wish to throw a party. They have more friends now, so they won't have to invite just their co-workers. Maybe they can even try out the new grill out back and make hot dogs for their guests.

Sharon has expressed a desire to learn the Gardening skill, so she has the start of a small garden behind the house. It's only three plants and a tree right now, but she enjoys it and the fresh produce will make the meals she prepares more tasty. Ozzy paints a little sometimes, but he really has to focus on playing the guitar and doing performances at the theater if he wants to make it all the way to Rock Star. Both have gotten another promotion, level 7 Backup Vocalist at $133 per hour for Ozzy and level 7 Orchestra Member at $111 per hour for Sharon.

They are starting to have a little money in the bank. With $12,000 cash, they can do some more upgrades to the house and start decorating it. They really don't need much space just for the two of them, but they can make the space they do have extra special.

Ozzy and Sharon are closing in on their Lifetime Wishes and are at level 8 of their careers. Sharon recently took advantage of Ozzy's rock concert performances. While Ozzy was performing at the theater, Sharon played for tips outside. There were a lot of people around and they all had an extra boost in mood from hearing Ozzy's music coming from inside the theater, so they gave Sharon some extra tips.

Ozzy tried to make some hot dogs on the grill and nearly burned the house down. I guess it was partly because it's a cheap grill and partly because he doesn't know how to cook. Sharon put the fire out and then made dinner for them. I really hope Ozzy doesn't try that again.

Sharon reached level 10 Hit Movie Composer at week 4, day 7. Her salary is $361 per hour, but will continue increasing even though she's at the top level. She spent her Lifetime Wish happiness points on a Collection Helper and now spends a couple of hours a day collecting rocks and gems. Her first day of collecting got them over $1,100 worth of space rocks, ore, and gems. She's getting the gems cut in the Emerald Cut for now because it's the least expensive. Then when she starts finding the really expensive gems, she'll get a more expensive cut for them and they will be worth a lot of money.

As a Hit Movie Composer, Sharon has her very own pink limo. They never bought a car of their own, always relying on a taxi or the carpool. Ozzy has the tour bus available to him for personal use until he gets his own limo at level 10.

Sharon had her first autograph signing event and it was a huge success. She made over $6,000 in four hours. It's nice to know she has so many fans.

Ozzy and Sharon are settling into a life of accumulating wealth. Ozzy often does three or four concerts a night, plays for tips, and paints to relax. Sharon works four days a week and continues to get raises so that she makes a very nice income. Both have autograph signing events once a week. Sharon's are a little more successful than Ozzy's. In fact, I made a huge mistake toward the end by having Ozzy's autograph signing event at the bookstore instead of the theater. There were plenty of people there, but none were fans who wanted an autograph. Not a single autograph was given and Ozzy made zero money from it. Sharon goes collecting every couple of days. They've got a nice collection of gems on display in the house and all the rest are sold.

The last weeks of the challenge were mostly uneventful, meaning that no tragedy struck the musician couple. Ozzy did more painting than guitar playing as the end grew closer. He had gained enough speed and creativity that he could easily paint 5 or 6 paintings a day, each worth between $1,500 and $4,000 each. He also got some very nice opportunities for painting commissions that earned a good deal of money.

Sharon stepped up her fishing and collecting, bringing in 3 pink diamonds worth a total of $17,000 and lots of deathfish for several thousand Simoleons. Her Collection Helper made hunting for gems and fish much easier. Her salary also grew to over $900 per hour. Ozzy bought a Moodlet Manager with his Happiness Points, so now they can both work 24 hours a day on making money when Ozzy uses the Cure setting to eliminate the tired moodlet.

Day 100 slid in and the couple emptied their inventories and the house of all paintings, gems, and produce with only 30 minutes until the deadline. My final score for this challenge was $756,200 in cash plus $59,159 for the value of the house with furnishings for a total of $815,359 in net worth. Add happiness points of 485,152 for a grand total of 1,300,511.

After the challenge was complete, Ozzy and Sharon packed up their small house and moved to a much larger home with room for a family. As we leave the Osbourne family, triplets Diana, Eugenia, and Beatrice have been born. Adventures will no doubt continue for our Centurian Couple.
