The Sims 3 Expansion Packs List

Read more Miscellaneous Articles

Currently, there are four expansion packs for The Sims 3. They are all themed, and will bring a particular flavor of additions to your game. Each EP works independently of the other, so you are free to mix and match these. You should install your expansions in the order they were released whenever you are forced to reinstall the game. Many of the Simmers at our forum like to do a clean reinstall whenever they get their hands on a new expansion. It seems to help to make the game more stable when you do so, as no other content will be interfering with the base game. If you're someone who has loads of addons, you will likely find this a big headache. Thankfully the Sims 3 Launcher does a fine job quickly importing new content to the game.

This list's primary role is to link you to more information. My Guide is very well structured for the amount of information it holds. You'll find that if you head to one of the expansion pack sections of the website, you will see a link to all other content that the expansions add. This doesn't always include traits, lifetime wishes, lifetime rewards, or new objects. I try to mention those in the expansion guides themselves, although 100% is not represented. The Sims 3 Generations LTR and traits are all in the Generations section. It's a new way of doing things, and the next time I'm working on the site I'll make the other expansions their own pages of info. This will make it much easier for people trying to decide between two EPs.

Throughout the Guide, you may see logos like those listed here. This denotes that the information is relevant to that expansion pack only.

The List

I will eventually add all of the stuff packs to the list. For now, you could use the Sims 3 site search for forumer experiences with them.

The Sims 3 World Adventures Expansion PackThe Sims 3 EP01: World Adventures Release Date: November 17, 2009
New Town: The Three Travel Spots
The Sims 3 World Adventures adds travel to the game. Sims can make a call and jet off to one of three locales. While there, they can pursue quests that grant them more rights in that country. They can explore tombs for ancient relics and collectibles, and make a living as a tomb raider/archaeologist doing so. Shang Simla, China is a small village with a dojo for learning the new Martial Arts skill. Egypt brings Photography, and is the primo destination to do some tomb raiding with its multiple pyramids. Picking up the new Photography skill gives Sims yet another way to make money whilst recording excitement and scenery during their adventures. France is the most modern location in the expansion, bringing Nectar Making, which produces a drink not unlike wine. Sims can age it to make it worth even more. The new life state in this expansion is the Mummy. Read the expansion guide to learn more. This is the best expansion pack for collectors, so the site's collecting guide may also be of interest to you. You can transform collectibles with the display table to create new, more valuable, items.

The Sims 3 High End Loft Stuff PackThe Sims 3 SP01: High End Loft Stuff Release Date: February 2, 2010
The Sims 3 High End Loft stuff is a small expansion pack that will allow you to add a touch of modern decor to your game. It features high end objects that focus on sleek, gorgeous styles as heavy on aesthetics as they are function. High End Loft Stuff will give your Sims access to 39 Buy Mode objects, 6 Build Mode objects, as well as 15 clothing items and 5 hairstyles for both men and women. Since it's release coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Sims franchise, it includes 3 iconic objects that were converted from the Sims 1 and Sims 2 that veteran Simmers will undoubtedly recognize. It's as close as your Sims will get to the future without the use of a Time Machine!

The Sims 3 Ambitions Expansion PackThe Sims 3 EP02: Ambitions Release Date: June 1, 2010
New Town: Twinbrook
Ambitions is the best expansion pack for Simmers who like to make money. This is a great addon as it brings five new professions, one changed one, and several other ways to make money. The highlights of the EP are the professions. Sims can be a ghost hunter, firefighter, stylist, architect, or private investigator. These pay a weekly stipend and give you money per job. All skills that can make money can now be pursued as self employment professions, which gives you some perks for advancing the skill. There are two new skills: sculpting and inventing. Both of these can be used to make serious cash, and add some interesting new elements to the gameplay. The new life state in this expansion pack is the Simbot, which can be made by inventors. Creations made by your Sims can be sold in the new consignment shop, and even children are given new money making opportunities with the bake sale.

The Sims 3 Late Night Expansion PackThe Sims 3 EP03: Late Night Release Date: October 26, 2010
New Town: Bridgeport
The Sims 3 Late Night adds more social and party options. Sims can go to clubs and bars, and raise their popularity with the new celebrity system. Sims can pursue a new career track, which ultimately ends in acting or directing. Sims that get popular will occasionally get rewards, and get in to the most exclusive clubs in town. The new life state for this EP is the Vampire, who are seen in dark clubs and all over the new city. This expansion also brings apartments and high rise buildings. The new town features subways for getting around faster, but this only makes up for the occasional wait on an elevator! Simmers who would like to spruce up the house will find that there are loads of cool new objects to decorate the with, too. The new black lights look great and add a great party feel to any room in the house. This is the expansion pack for Simmers who want to party, but it's also a bag with a few more tricks (like band gigs!). Read the guide to this expansion to get a list of all of the new additions.

The Sims 3 Generations Expansion PackThe Sims 3 EP04: Generations Release Date: May 31, 2011
New Town: None
Generations is a more subtle expansion pack. You won't see all its new stuff blatantly. Everything has been given more depth. The theme here is life states and the memorable moments along the way. Children and Teens can pull pranks. Kids can use their imagination and go on field trips. High Schoolers can pursue an after school activity. Adults might have a midlife crisis, and you could have a bridezilla on your hands. These last two things are fairly random, but may be more likely to happen if things aren't going well. This expansion offers the ability to share memories with others and unlock rewards for doing so. The new life state is the childhood imaginary friend, which appears as a toddler and can evolve as your kid becomes a teen. They can even be made real with the new potion making side of the logic skill. This expansion adds some great new lifetime rewards. You can buy a hoverbed, vehicle that improves your mood while you drive, and get age freeze or young again potions. You can even clone your Sim! Head to this expansion's page to learn about the various additions for different age groups.

The Sims 3 Pets Expansion PackThe Sims 3 EP05: Pets Release Date: Oct 18, 2011
New Town: Appaloosa Plains
If you don't like pets, you won't like this Expansion. Its primary contributions are Cats, Dogs, and Horses. Cats and Dogs can hunt to find collectibles, and provide a lot of new interactions to enjoy as Sims engage their pet. Horses are the most detailed offering of Pets. Sims can breed and sell them, and train them for racing. Big earnings can be made by winning a race while the Equestrian Center is open. The new life form in Pets is the Unicorn. These creatures can bless Sims, start fires, and teleport along with their rider. They're super fast and guaranteed to do better in races. The game was also released on console but Horses are not available.
