Welcome to the Forum, xsansara!  You can join a challenge any time until it's over.  The thing is that you can't start playing it until the start date and you have to be finished by the ending date.

Thank you.

I just noticed that the book title translations are completely off.
I am right in assuming that the books are simply the most expensive books you can buy in the bookstore?

Otherwise I would have to start again, since language changes reset all save games (at least with my game).

Hi xsansara.

Metro will have to answer your question about the books. He put that piece of the rules together and will be able to tell you which books they are.

No, those specific books have the most pages, and thus will take the longest time to read. Welcome to the challenge.

I finally decided to run my game on english too (I´m from Denmark and play on Danish normally). I didn´t have any problem changing the language.
What do you mean that it resets all savegames?

Last time I changed the language via the registry, all my save games were gone and all downloaded content (like Riverview) as well.

That does not happen normally or is there a way to get around that?

Is it OK, if I just buy the books with the most pages for the challenge?

You will need to purchase the exact ones required for the challenge.

It seems that a lot of people are having problems with identifying the objects if they don't play the english version. Maybe it would be possible to write the prices of the books and items that need to be purchased next to their names. That way even if the name is not a direct translation you can still identify the objects easily?

A page total might be better in case there are books with the same price. I'm not exactly sure if there are books with the same price, but I'll put the page count next to the book. Give me a little time to get all that info.

-----

EDIT: Okay, done. There's some duplication with page totals, but the ones with the same page totals are only available in different places — i.e. Zombies, Zombies and Thread Count are not available in the same town, so hopefully everyone's clear now.

Thanks for the page counts. I found a way to keep my save games through the language change. All I had to do was changing the name of the personal folder.

I have finished!
First of all, I really want to thank whoever came up with this challenge only for the fact that it got me to try a new thing. I've never done transfiguring before (and while it took several minimizing-maximizing to the page in the Guide on how to transfigure, plus several different times which I pulled my hair out from stupid magic gnomes coming up when I needed the gems they were supposed to be) and I am very glad I finally learned how. It got me into a whole new way of playing so thank you for that. :)

Anyways, let's hear my stats now shall we? Mind you I finished with a nice amount of time at home, but so much vacation time. I just have one thing to say for that, my Sim loved visiting China too much.  ::) heh.

Home time: week 3 day 5
Vacation time: 31

My challenge ended with a bang (not really, but it was quite the awesome ending which leaves me to keep playing this Sim just for the fun of it.) my Sim was in Egypt, picking up the final butterfly, he fell deeply in love, and seeing as his dating days were over, he became friends, and wooed her, it wasn't until the last 15 minutes of his vacation that he followed her home as quickly as possible and proposed. :)
Anyways, good luck to everyone else, this challenge was amazingly fun and definitely worth the time to play.

Thank you, I'm quite proud of it, especially because I went into this challenge believing I would take it slow and steady and just take my time to do things. However it turns out that actually made it go by so much faster!

I'm testing this challenge now, but I have ambitions installed. Am I to assume anything new from Ambitions is not allowed in this challenge? Such as the invention skill? etc?

Pretty much. Anything that would give you an kind of edge over a non-Ambitions player (i.e. the Harvester, etc) cannot be used.

Add me to the list, please!

It looks like I'm going to have to take a crash course in... well, a lot of stuff.  That's okay, though.

It's just that it's not clear from the rules. So if someone signs up now and doesn't scroll through all the pages, they might not be aware that stuff from ambitions is off limits.

True. Thanks for reminding me. I'll make it more clear.

-------

EDIT: Heh, well, I'm not sure how "clear" this makes things. The problem is I don't want an enormous laundry list of everything that would be prohibited. And I don't even know what that list would entail given I'm obviously still learning all the ins and outs myself. But, at least I've thrown this in the rules, generic as it is —

  • Ambitions users — Nothing from the Ambitions expansion that would give you an unfair advantage can be used.

Well, you can't get much more plain than that, still a good idea before anyone starts a challenge, to read the rules all of the way through, I am guilty of not doing that myself and then asking stupid questions, lol.
