Actually, while I'm waiting for the other challenge to start, I could this one give a try as well. I have little to none experience with transmogrification, but then again some collections rather depend on luck in my opinion (bugs/gems), so I hope I might end up doing not all too bad.

Okay I finally finished this one, it literally drove me crazy. :)

Indie Collector finished on:

Week 4, day 3
Vacation: 13 days

Glad to have this one done, now to play some ambitions. :)

I decided to playtest a little since I've never done transfigurations, and I can't imagine how people get enough pink diamonds to reliably make a skull cut pink diamond.  There must be some trick I'm not getting.  Oh well, hopefully I'll figure it out soon.

We can't discuss direct strategy here, but you might find some information if you snoop around the Forum a little.  :)

My time doesn't look right on the leader board. Isn't week 4, day 3 (7+7+7+3=24)?

It is. I apologize and I'm glad you caught that. I had in my mind 4 full weeks, plus the 3 days.

Metro, we might have a problem with this challenge.  Saltypaws reported on another thread that she can no longer get skull cut gems or Supernovium using the known formulas on the display case.

I have ambitions and I've got no problems getting skull cuts and supernovium using the regular recipes in the guide (ie 5 different cuts for the skull and 5 different metals for the supernovium)

Oh, that's great and I'm glad to hear it!  I think I'll start a topic for it and see if others are having a problem.  Well, I'll ask Saltypaws to start it since she's having trouble.  Thanks, Nancy!

The problem isn't making regular supernovium, it's the other recipe that allows you to go directly to large supernovium that isn't working.

Also after extensively testing the skull cut, the recipe is not 100 percent success at generating the desired skull cut as stated in the guide. There is only one way to guarantee 100 percent success.

That was also true before ambitions so there's no change there. TBH, it seems more stable than pre-ambitions wrt skull cuts but it may just be that I'm getting the hang of it more... and developing my own superstitions about which gems to use and where to put them lol!

I don't know what method SaltyPaws is using for to get the supernovium but she seems to be suggesting she can't get skull cuts at all - not just that she can't get the type she wants... although reading through the thread if she's using the method Pam suggested then that might explain the problem, but explaining the "error" (that method might have worked pre-patch but its not the way I've been doing it) could be construed as 'strategy' talk.

Definitely because you'd essentially be telling a player what the correct method of doing something is and saving them gobs of time and frustration. However, as always, I have 0 problems with all of the specifics being addressed elsewhere. I just gave a pretty big tip regarding the consignment shop last night in that thread which would help any observant challenge player in the da Vinci event.

The only thing I'm missing from any of my collections now is the large plutonium ingot, and I've never even found a single piece of plutonium.  I think I'm giving up at this point.  Please withdraw me from the challenge.  This was a fun experience anyway.  I hadn't even realized before that you could do transformations, or that collecting was so profitable.

Are you sure you want to quit the challenge, ClayMask?  We can't discuss strategy in this thread, but you're welcome to search through the Forum or even start a topic if you can't find some help.  I'm the one who put together the metals collection rules and I promise that Plutonium isn't impossible to find.  :)

In other news, I've finally started this challenge!  I even managed to build my Sim Elvis Presley a decent house using tips from TommyT's article!  I'm as excited about that as I am about starting to collect!  Hehe.

Like Pam said, ClayMask, Plutonium is out there. I'll be out of touch for a few days, so think about your final decision in the meantime. Play a little more and see if you get lucky and finally find some. So, for now, I'll leave you in the table. If you definitely want to withdraw, then just give another shout and I'll do so upon returning. Good luck!

If someone wants to start a thread I will share a tip on finding plutonium, its not the best way to get it and there's still quite a bit of luck involved (I'm keeping that under my hat until the challenge is over) but it might help someone that is really stuck.

I have a question too - if you're on vacation on day 4 and you use your phone to 'return home' at 8:01pm but then your sim stands around for 4 hours (00:01am the next day) does that count as 5 days or 4? In my tests I haven't found any common cause of the 'stand around for hours'  after calling to return home, it doesn't always do it, some of the time you go home straight away, other times you stand around for something like 1-4 hours.

I know it. It's frustrating. I have no idea what causes the standing around for hours bug. I don't really have a simple answer for you. As long as the players that have already finished have based their vacation ending times on when the phone call was made, then I have no problem with you (and everyone else) doing the same.

Thanks for your concern.  I'm sure I want to quit this challenge, though.  I've already looked for plutonium a lot, using tips I found online, and I don't want to keep spending days and days looking for plutonium alone.

I really hate to see this.  I know you'd find plutonium fairly easily if you'd ask about it on another topic.  It would just be a matter of getting enough of them to make the large ingot.  You're so close to finishing this challenge!

I have a feeling that I might set a new record for last place on this challenge, but I'm really enjoying it.  I normally don't like playing a single Sim, but this one has so much variety and excitement that it's a lot of fun.  :D

As I left work to goto lunch today, I see some butterfiles flitting about near a patch of grass.  I think to myself, hmmm, do I have that one for the crazy 8's challenge?  *sigh*  Clearly I have played too much Sims 3!  Or have I???  Muahahah!  *cough*   :D
