Hi everyone!

Someone had mentioned not too long ago that it would be nice to have a list of everyone's birthdays. Well, the Forum has a calendar tab that shows holidays and all the birthdays of members who have put their date of birth in their profiles. You can click on the calendar tab from any page.  It's near the top with the other tabs for Home, Members, etc. As time goes on, we may start using this to help everyone keep track of all of our events. Stay tuned for updates!

What a great feature, Pam! Has the Calendar feature been around for a while? I've never even noticed it!

I think it's always been there, but I don't know if it was active.  I went through it yesterday checked on which holidays will show up and figured out the part about having your birthday on your profile to get your birthday to show up.  It's really a cool feature and we can make great use of it.

Haha, so there still are some hidden buttons on this forum that yet has to be explored. I will take a look.
We can write down our birthdays? Oh well, I will see that very soon ofcourse.

Nice feature.
My only gripe with it is that all those holidays are American ones! Stuff like Mother's day is the wrong date (he he, at least for me ) and there's those holidays we don't even have, like Thanksgiving!

The birthday system will still become very handy for the discussion in the Babble Thread!
I also noticed that you, Pam, have put down your age and birthday. Do you trust us enough to share that with us now?

Ah, Swede!  I knew it was just a matter of time before someone commented about the holidays being American!  I suspect that it's set up that way because the webmaster (Carl) is located in the United States.  I wouldn't be surprised if the developers of the forum software are also American.  It would probably be different if it was all hosted in Sweden or another country.

I've never really minded if people know my age.  I'm rather proud of it, actually.  I'd neglected to put my birthday information on my profile when I first set it up and I updated it yesterday for the calendar.

I so don't understand. Are you saying Christmas for you is on the 24th?

Mother's Day seems in the right spot for us Aussies. But what is memorial day? And we so don't do thanksgiving. Anzac Day and Australia Day need adding

I could easily fill up the calander with holidays, there's loads of Maltese holidays, plus British ones - It would be party almost everyday :-)

I am confused about christmas though... we celebrate on the 25th December, is that what Americans do?

Yes, Americans celebrate Christmas on December 25. But Swede said something about the 24th in his post, so now I'm wondering is Sweden uses a different day than the rest of the entire wide world.  Hehe.

Oh! Our Anzac Day is for the same thing, just mainly for Australian (and New Zealand) soldiers.

We have Remembrance Day on the 11th of November at 11am everyone in the country has a two minute silence to remember the end of the war and lost soldiers of the 1st world war.

Since I did German before Christmas 09 I know that Germany have their Christmas dinner and presents on the 24th and have private or family day on Christmas day.

Americans also often have presents on December 24, but Christmas Day is still December 25.

We call the 25th "Christmas day", but if you say "Christmas" everybody is going to assume (at least here in Sweden) that you're meaning the 24th. On the 24th, we have all presents, all normal traditions (which tv show to watch, what alcoholic beverage to drink etc.). That the name of the 25th is Christmas day is often ignored, it's the 24th that's the real Christmas. Hey, sometimes my parents are starting to talk about when to remove the Christmas tree then.

What you're doing during the 25th can vary between families, but many do nothing besides maybe having an extra nice meal or something.

Interesting. My family celebrates (presents, parties) on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Each family does it differently. I was about to say that people usually go to church on Christmas Day (if they go), but they have Christmas Eve services too, often late at night. Oh, and the day after Christmas Day is Boxing Day - a holiday, from times when people used to give boxes of gifts (food?) to the poor the day after Christmas. But I could be wrong about the origin there - my memories are vague in that regard.

When we were little,we always woke up on Christmas day and opened all of our presents and had our big meal later.  As we got older, on Christmas eve we got to open one gift and the rest Christmas morning.  Very interesting on the different way different cultures and countries celebrate holidays.

I think the calendar is a great idea.  I never really paid attention to it before.

Can Sinterklaas be added? It is a children celebration at december 5 in Holland, Belgium and maybe some other Dutch speaking countries.
The story tells of a man (Sinterklaas, aka St. Nicolaas) came from Spain in a boat with zwarte pieten (a lot of black piets), his horse and a lot of presents for all the children in Holland. At pakjesavond (presen evening) children al over the country will get presents from sinterklaas (which will be the parents, but the children are to young to know that ).

I still don't see the calender by the way on the page.

The we want Bevrijdingsdag (Liberty Day, 5th of May) and de Dodenherdenking (Remembrance Day, 4th of May) too. When it's Bevrijdingsdag we celebrate that the Allied Forces liberated us in WO II and when it's Dodenherdenking everybody is silent for a few minutes to remember all soldiers who died anywhere in the world. Just like most Remembrance days!

And valentine, and Pasen (Dutch celebration), moederdag (mothersday), vaderdag (fathersday), rammadam (what moslim people celebrate here to) and I think I can go on for quite some time now. If there are no limitations for what to put in the calender I think we have to read a lot of stuff every day, according to specific days or celebrations around the globe per country.

After checking: I saw I already had put it in, but I didn't saw it showing up in the Summary under Profile Info. Or doesn't that matter?

No, it doesn't show there. I can see your birthday on the calendar Leto, so you're on it.
