The Sims 3 Baby Boomer Challenge
By Carl Ratcliff and Pam Marsden

Pam and I have decided to create a challenge based on a thread called "How many children have your Sims had" located here:  http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=103.0

The challenge will be hard, especially for those who are inexperienced with raising children. For the family oriented players out there, this one will be much easier. Others might want to try it to get an experience of parenthood in the Sims 3. After raising all these children, one baby will be a cakewalk. It must be completed with no cheats or mods.

You'll start with two Sims on normal lifespan, both young adult, and set their relationship to married. One parent will have to stay at home, while the other earns the money. The stay at home parent must get the family oriented trait and cannot pursue a career, although any way they can help make money is allowed. The working parent must pursue a career track of his or her choice.

Taking the family oriented trait will help you to gain more happiness points for the stay-at-home parent for raising the kids while the other parent works. Your choice if it's mom or dad. The challenge ends when Mom reaches elderly status and is barren. At that point you'll tally your score.

The bulk of points will come from your Young Adult Sims. When they reach young adult, they are to be kicked out on their own immediately. No choosing houses, just kick 'em out. This frees up room in the house for more children. Optimally, you'd always want 6 kids in the family. Twins and triplets will help because the gestation period will be the same. More babies at once.

Explicit Rules: *No adoption and no marrying into a family with children. Your two Sims must produce all their kids themselves through normal conception with woohoo/try for baby. No prematurely aging Sims with the birthday cake (you can blow out the candles on their actual birthday), and certainly no giving mom perpetual life with life fruit or ambrosia.

No traveling allowed.

The scoring table:
Infant: 100 points
Toddler: 200 points
Child: 400 points
Teen: 800 points
Young adult: 1600 points

Scores can be calculated as follows:

Head to the Simology tab and click on Family Tree. If you have, for example, 16 family members under your original pair and six still live at home, you know you have 10 Young Adults kicked out. The final six living at home should scored be based on age using the scoring table above.  Then calculate the score for the Young Adults who have been kicked out.

The total amount when all are added equals your score. Please be specific in how many young adults are kicked out and what the final family chemistry is (i.e. 3 infants, 2 children and a teen, for example).

Good luck everyone!

Sweet challenge, Carl and Pam! I'm definitely in as soon as I finish the Opposites Attract one and the Centurians Couples one. I'm probably going to name my couple for this challenge the Duggars.

Hmmmm, that challenge sounds mighty familiar.......me thinks saltypaws ask that same question, LOL......too bad I can't use the family I got that from, I made them from the beginning, but if i made those I can make another family just like it, I am really into big families and this is right up my alley, good luck and may the best simmer win, lol...........btw, that family has a total of 15 family members, with two still at home.

When I get around to doing this one, I don't expect to do so hot because I'm so inexperienced with juggling families. It'll be a while before I complete it.  Wrapped up, and doing a couple side projects on the main site while juggling all the other things in life. Pam will be gone a few days, so I should be on at least once a day to check for results to update the leaderboard.

I am now on day 6 of the challenge, and mom has 1 baby in a crib and another in her belly.  Dad is working in the Law Enforcement track and doing well, with 1 promotion under his belt and almost to his second promotion.  The family has little to no money, but are happy and trucking right along.  Should be interesting to see if this is a mulitple birth as mom got the fertility treatment when she had the lifetime happiness points for it. *scampers off to play some more with the Boomers*

OK started the first family and I am not super happy with them -  first of all
Why do their ages not start at day 1 of their YA life?  My female is 5 days older than my male....  wtheck!
They have 5 children so far-  1 toddler and 2 sets of infant twins...  What was I thinking?

I started a 2nd family and they are only pg no baby yet.

Both dads are military because they get a lot of time off starting out they only work 4 days a week wich I figure will help having them around the house.    Whoops I shouldn't be giving out my tips!

This is a pic of babies 4 & 5 being born.

Honeymooners,

I've already thought about the deal where the two Sims are different ages even though they were created at the same time.  I've read here on the forum that your Sims start aging while they are still in Create A Sim.  So, if you created the female first, she will be a little bit older than the male because she sat in the bin aging while you created him.  Because of this, I plan to create the male first.

I'm leaving this morning for a few days.  I'll be back on Sunday.  I won't be able to start this challenge until I finish the Centurian Couple's challenge because I'm writing an article for that one for Carl's main site.  I'll miss being able to play with you.  *sniff*

Have fun and I'll talk to everyone in a few days!

Pam I actually think it is the opposite  of what you said.

1st family created man first and woman was older

2nd family created woman first and man was older

Let me know how yours works.   None of my people started at day 1 of YA no matter who was first.

Have fun on your long weekend Pam!    Next weekend DH and I are leaving for a long weekend too though I will have the laptop I won't have sims.....

Well, not so easy when you can't use cheats, lol...........triplets and a toddler, what a job, husband busy working and going around town picking up rocks and catching butterflies to get money, poor things.   Mom is looney most of the time and trying to do some gardening.  Methinks will wait to have more, have to get more room and money for more beds.  Not sure what to do when they turn into youths.  Probably will have to sleep on the floor.  Will use map to find the expensive gems and butterflies, but for now, must go to work and leave the little guys.  Good luck..

There are so many challenges to choose from!   Now I just don't know which one I will try next after my Asylum Challenge, but Thanks for making this challenge!   ;)

Okay, I'm in. My mini Diablo diversion didn't last long and I'm back to simming. So, it's time for some major league Woo Hooing with Greta and Gordon Carbonara. Like the surname? :) Gordon is going the Astronaut route since he'll be at home a lot once he hits that point and can help with the kids. I think I'll build them a nice small home at the end of the cul-de-sac on Pinochie — it's right by the base. Plus, that lot is a little larger, so there will be room to expand the house eventually.

Here I go....

Y'all are killing me!!  I'm back home now and able to play, but I'm trying to finish up the Centurian Couple's challenge before I start this one.  I'm on week 9.  But...  I don't think I'll make it without playing the Baby Boomer challenge, too.  Gah!!

I had to go ahead and start this challenge.  The parents are Donny and Marie Osmond.  They built a 2 bedroom house on the beach and immediately started their family.  January was their firstborn, a little girl.  Next came triplets February, March, and April.  All are girls, even without eating watermelon!  The triplets came from both parents having fertility treatments.  It's already crowded in their little house with 4 cribs.  Mom is definitely going to have her hands full.  Money isn't a huge issue yet, but I'm sure it will become troublesome very soon.

I gave this challenge a shot for a few days and just couldn't get my head into it. Too much juggling. I should have known better given the kind of challenges I like designing. So, I'm sorry but I'm backing out.  :-[

I hear ya Pam, money was a big issue, but like I said I send someone hunting everyday and she gardens, so that is a help.  At least the triplets are youths now and the older one is a teen, and mom is pregnant again, only no eating or watching anything, lol.....hopefully just one is born for right now, good luck.

*Wipes sweat off of forehead*  I have finished the challenge.  I had Cheryl and Edgar Boomer, who had 8 children in all together.  Cheryl got pregnant the first day in their home with their first child.  The day their son was born, she got pregnant with their next child.  Turns out it was twin girls.  At this point, they took a small break to get the 3 youngsters to school age before going ahead and getting knocked up again.  Twin Boys this time, then a single boy followed by twin boys at the end of the challenge.

My score breaks down as follows:

2 infants for 100 each = 200 pts
3 children for 400 ea   = 1200 pts
3 YA for 1600 each     = 4800 pts
                                 ________
                                  6200 pts

Edgar reached level 10 of the Law Enforcement career track as a Dynamic DNA Profiler  and Cheryl maxed out her cooking ability and had collected every type of gem and metal and most of the space rocks.

Thank you Carl and Pam for a fun-filled challenge.
