Fast Lane stuff pack
« on: June 29, 2010, 03:15:57 PM »
Looks like it was officially announced last night here http://www.thesims3.com/community/news.html?selMonth=5&selYear=2010&intcmp=eaint268#295131341
I like the idea of items to match the four different lifestyles they mention!  I'll be going spy/intrigue all the way :)

Oh, awesome. Thanks for posting that Tom. I foresee a car collector's challenge down the road.

Oh boy...
I've built this awesome house in an extremely small lot in SV and even though I always needed more space, I never moved because I'm too lazy to build something up again ::)... Where is my car collection gonna be placed? Can we put cars in the basement? :o

Anyhow I'm looking forward to this one!

Simple solution. Go to Edit Town and move the whole house to a bigger lot.

It seems EA is going to be going in a pattern of expansion > stuff > expansion... We'll have to wait and see.

Of course. Personally, I don't want to know what's coming in a year from now. I want to be surprised.

It looks like a fantastic Stuff Pack!  I can't wait to get it, especially because the the new clothing and items in Ambitions leaves a lot to be desired, in my opinion.

Yeah that seems like an unfortunate trend so far, EP's for gameplay mechanics and SP's for objects.

I've tried looking at that press release through the link on this thread, and the link snooty posted, but on neither can I see a mention of a new stuff pack...

That's odd because it worked fine for me.

I've never bought a stuff pack because I didn't think they were worth the money. However, this one really catches my interest. I find that Sims really lacks in fancy clothes and the classic luxury would help out with that. Also, I'm tempted to make a James Bond sim.

Unfortunate because many feel most of the goodies should be in the EP's and not just separate SP's that usually are fairly skimpy but cost as much, or almost?  I really don't remember how it went with Sims2 but my kiddo says we have tons of EP's and none of the SP's except the one that came as a bonus with the base game.

I guess it kind of bugs me a bit.  It's rather like the "free to play" mmorpg's you can play online.  While they say "free", and indeed you CAN sort of play them free, to get the most out of them you are almost forced to buy items from their store.  Now in this case I can see why.  If they are going to put up a game anyone can play free, they need to support themselves somehow so the way to do that is with their store.  So while I don't like it, I do understand it, and I do support the game by buying from the store.  But in the case of the mmorpg, you don't shell out some fair sized dollars to buy the base game and then have to continue to shell out for expansions and what not.
I can even understand buying EP's.  You have to pay folks' salary after all, and if we want the fun of playing an awesome game it's going to cost.  SP's are borderline in my brain at the moment, but the store items, while I DO buy there, kind of is a bit gritchy to me.  I'm basically still trying to justify it in my head.  Not a complaint, nor a slam at EA, just a thought I'm working on.
What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!

Try going to thesims3.com and on the bottom right of the homepage there's a newsfeed section.

In my case, the stuff packs have been half the price of the expansion packs.  For my $20, I feel I get a lot more than I could get by spending $20 at the Store.  They don't bother me.  It's not realistic to think EA is going to release absolutely everything with the initial release.  It would be short lived if that were the case.  This is my first experience with anything Sims and I plan to buy every EP and SP that comes out.  ;D

I agree with you, Pam.
Besides that, if the Sims 3 came already with all the expansions and stuff all at once, then I think in the long term the game will get boring because there will not be anything refreshing and new, like what they do now.
Okay, it would absolutely be awesome in the beginning and I probably would play it around the clock (or just 20/7 in case I decide to sleep), but after some time in a rehab clinic without any new expansion or stuff pack to look forward to, I would probably find another hobby.
So the expansions are good, in my opinion. It is the only way (at the moment) to let games be interesting in the long, very long run.
Besides MMORG's of course.

This stuff pack looks pretty neat, yay, new cars.  Everytime a stuff pack comes out, I always have a fight with my other self about buying it.  I always win and buy it anyway.  I say I won't buy it, but guess what.  I am right there at the store on the release date, so needless to say, I have and will have all SP and EP, lol.

Ever since the sims 1, eps and sps have been alternatively released.  I think of a sp as a little holdover until they release an ep where you get the major change in gameplay.  When the sims 2 wound up with Mansions and Gardens, it was the first time a sp was that large. :o

Since the sims first started the packs have been released on a 6 month schedule and I would imagine with the sims 3 they will continue to do this.

I'm not too sure about the Fast Lane Stuff yet.  I'll need to see more screenshots.  I'll definitely buy it, like I've done for 10 years, ::) I'm just not sure about it yet. :D

It's always been, eps $40 and sps $20.  Name me anything else in this world that has remained the same price for 10 years. :P

I don't think there were any SPs for Sims 1.  I can only think of the base game and the 7 EPs (House Party, Livin' Large, Hot Date, Vacation, Unleashed, Superstar, and Makin' Magic).

There were official free downloads for TS1.  Back then EA/Maxis didn't charge simmers for objects, they gave them to us as freebies.

I honestly think there isn't enough in the SPs to charge a whole 20$ for, but I guess that's just me. This one looks a little better than High-End Loft, though.

Personally I think EA have it about right with EPs and SPs ... as several folks have said, it stops the game from becoming boring.  And the overall Sims entertainment value, measured in "Fun Time" per £/$, is exceptional IMO.

Not sure I'm going to move my ecologically sound family from by the beach so that they can have room for fast cars, though.  The Kenspas suit them fine, and there's good fishing right across the street ... for food, and fertiliser for their intensive Urban Farming activity.  ;D

Very true! But at the same time I have never seen the price drop either. Not that I am complaining. I have never seen a sale or anything on them but on the other hand EA does let you use a coupon when you buy even if it is a pre-order and in my experience that is rare alone. With most of the top selling game places will exclude them from the coupons. Also EA's price on their website is the same as in the stores which is also pretty rare in my experience so I would say you win some you lose some but all in all EA is doing a fine job. And some things EA still does give out free on their site, just not everything as in my opinion is smart. Why give it free when people will pay for it? Beside the more they make the better they can make the Expansions! Just my opinion though!
