Easy money tip for beginners
« on: July 19, 2010, 04:05:40 AM »
Hello and welcome to an easy money making guide. Most posts may have playing guitar for tips or making novels, and even buying out buisnesses. Well, I'm sure this has been posted on other forums, but being a Kleptomaniac can get you a net worth of 1,000,000 in no time :) Every night at 7:00, your Kleptomaniac can steal other items that, obviously, do not belong to them. The Museum or Agnes Crumplebottom can get you a hefty amount, or any other rich sim/building.
It's suprisingly easy to steal from the Museum. But for rich sims, A) you look through their window, or B) you befriend them and steal when they're not looking. This plus guitar playing for tips (and writing novels, if you have the time) can increase your net worth to alot, and quite quickly.

Hope this helps :)

How sure are you about the klepto part?  There was an update to the game awhile back that make it so that you can't steal from some public lots.  It's been awhile since I played a klepto, so I don't remember exactly what could and couldn't be taken.  It did change, though, from what it was when the game first came out.

Yeah. You can still steal from the museum, and you can steal from the park, and the cemetery, but most others are rabbit holes and thus, you cannot steal objects from them.

I know you can steal the stuff outside the museum, but can you also steal inside?  Kleptomaniac sims (and their humans) are eagerly awaiting a reply on this!  ::)

Of course you can! You can go inside and steal statues, paintings lights, seats, and everything else that's in there (mostly).

Thank you for the prompt response.  You just made my kleptomaniac VERY happy.  Now, if I can only get him to steal the paintings instead of some cheap lighting fixture ...

Ha ha ha. Yeah. Sims always seem to steal lights instead of the things you want them to  :-[

Kiiopp - and anyone else who's experienced in playing klepto sims - I have another question.  I've just started playing one for the first time, and while it's a quick way to get money at first, what about later on?  The townies don't seem to replace stolen items, so don't kleptos run out of things to steal?  Are they limited to stealing outdoor light fixtures, or do they have to go straight?

You can steal from outside the museum but ever since WA, klepto sims haven't been able to take things from inside public buildings. I was hoping that was changed with Ambitions but it's not...I've already checked.

You do have some control over what they steal. Just keep a watch on the sim and if you see them heading for a curtain or light, quickly cancel the action before they start rubbing hands together, then try again.

That's what I thought.

How recently have you done this?

Uncontrolled sims replaces stuff depending on how much money they've got. I've noticed that after 2-3 generations the majority of uncontrolled families have Margaret Vaguesters. It's the same principle when they replace stolen stuff. :)

Public places like the parks and graveyards do replace their stuff eventually (except the graves of course, ::)), it's just to wait. Examples that are replaced: that big City Statue (you know, the guy that's holding a letter or something), the graveyard statue, statues outside museums and lightings anywhere in public spaces. I haven't experimented with this on lots I own, or after the introduction of the real estate system for that matter, so it may have changed. :-\

Thanks, Swede.  It sounds like one just has to keep looking for stuff.  I'm relieved that my klepto sim doesn't have to think about going straight!   :D

I know before when my klepto stole something...the sims in the house would still go through the motions of using the object even though it was no longer there.

You mean they don't even notice their stuff is gone?  That's hilarious!

I know if they are in the criminal career, when they reach a certain level you can be at someones house and random click around the other sims house and the option will come up to "take something".  I have not had many klepto's, so I may be wrong.  I do know that the klepto will steal things from work, LOL.  My sim had stuff in the family inventory and I
moused over it and it said "stole from hospital lounge", something along those lines. I found it pretty amusing.

Your klepto Sim can only steal/swipe things after 7 pm in the evening.  Not sure as to what time it ends, but do know that it starts at 7 pm.

Ah, thanks Wildred, wasn't sure about the time, like I said, I have never really played one, but knew I had seen the "swipe something" somewhere.

There's also a bit of information on the Guide about the Kleptomaniac trait.

Haha! I just remembered that my inventor married his maid/klepto. I've never seen her swipe anything so I forget. However, she is a stylist now, going to people's homes and she keeps asking if she can go inside. I thought that was part of the stylist schtick, but now I realize she wants inside to swipe stuff.

Wow, stylist/klepto has great potential for numerous friends and access for kleptos!

I am going to go see if I can steal from the French Museum, I wonder if I can steal that sarcophagus from the Art Gallery...  ;)

EDIT:

I could not steal from the French Alexis Relics or the Art Gallery, I tried from 7pm to 1 am but the option never came up inside the venues, so I guess this has been fixed?

Yeah, it makes sense they'd fix that. After all, Sims can replace stuff but there's no museum curator that spends money to replace lost items from the art gallery and places like that.
