Appreciated Art Value?
« on: August 02, 2010, 03:00:55 AM »
Hey everyone! I have a quick question, and I might be dumb and unable to find this information in Carl's guide. I was wondering about art appreciating in value. Does the value increase when art is in inventory instead of hanging in the house, or does it just depend on the quality of the artwork? One of my sims hung up a pretty cheap piece of art he made ($118) and it did not appreciate in value for days, if not weeks. However, a piece of art that was about $3000 appreciated $30 in the course of a few minutes just by standing on the art easel. Others appreciated by a few hundred in the inventory of the sim in a matter of a few days to a week. How does the system work?

Thanks for the help!

I've had sims keep paintings in their inventory while working towards one of the opportunities and the paintings definitely increase in value while in inventory.   I haven't found any difference between paintings in terms of the amount of appreciation, but to be honest I haven't studied it that closely.

For paintings I believe it's a flat $10 per night at midnight contrasted to nectar which appreciates 10% of base value per night. Big difference.

BlueJay91,

I saw this question early yesterday morning, and thought I'd do a bit of testing.

For paintings I believe it's a flat $10 per night at midnight ...

Metro's dead-on, from what I can see, "Large Paintings" produced by a Level 10 Painter seem to increase in value $10/day (regardless of whether they are in your Sim's inventory, on the easel, on a wall, or a basement wall ... or what the painting's value was when it was created). I'll post the results once the paintings "age" to two-weeks (and my low-level 4 Painter produces a few "large" paintings too).

I think your $118 painting was produced by a Level 5-6 Painter? I think the Painter's skill level seems to have something to do with it's increase, but I'm not sure why it wouldn't increase in value over a Sim Week or two (other than the ORIGINAL value was low enough that even the small percentage daily increases are too small to see).

Hope this helps, and I'll post my charts once 2 Sim Weeks have passed.
