"Beware of Pirates"

Mojo and Radar have a birthday.

They are glad they can finally choose their own clothes.  Mojo chooses basic black

Radar opts for blue jeans

They have heard of a second-hand car dealership in Barnacle Bay being operated by a real pirate and they go out to look for a car.  The dealer sees them coming and quickly sizes them up.  He takes them over to a small car in the corner [a junker].

The dealer says:  “I just got this little beauty in the other day [it’s been here since we opened].  I hate to part with it [I haven’t been able to unload it] but you look like the sort to appreciate a fine set of wheels like this [you look like a couple of real suckers].  Cars like this are hard to find [the model was discontinued years ago because of numerous safety and mechanical problems].”

Mojo says:  “Are those rust spots?”
The dealer says:  “Oh, those will clean off very nicely.  In the business we call that a patina [dirt + rust + unmentionable grunge = genuine rust bucket].  You boys remind me of my own son [who I deserted and haven’t seen since he was born].  So here’s what I’ll do - I’ll give you an extra special price on her [I’ll inflate the price as much as I think I can get away with].”

The boys buy the car and head back to SV.

The car dies partway home and they wind up jogging the rest of the way.

Turn your head sideways and look at it. It's supposed to be a laughing face, the X being the eyes, and the D being the mouth.

Thanks, Simstar.  I really am hopelessly ignorant on some things.  Ok, on many things.

Here are some more pictures of the twins.  I have no storyline for these pictures, I just like these boys and wanted to share the pictures.

“Weekends are Wonderful”  or, “When the cats are away …”

Saturday at last!  James is out working on his blowfish quota.

The other adults go for their weekly spa treatments, leaving Mojo and Radar alone at home.

Party time!

They raid the nectar cellar.

The party ends abruptly when the police arrive, acting on complaints from the neighbours.

Even so, it was an awesome party!   We need to do this again.  Now, how can we get the grown-ups out of the house?  Let’s open a bottle of nectar and do some planning.

If anyone has been reading this story from the beginning, first - allow me to congratulate you on your endurance!  And to thank you for your patience as the story slowly evolves.  Second, I said at the outset that the story characters would be named for the 8 schipperkes I have had.  Being a very doting dog person, I want to share a little information about my 8 friends.  So if that doesn’t interest you, feel free to skip this post.  I will list the dogs in the order in which I got them, which is not the same as their order in the story.

1.  Wimsey, my first schip.  She used to run up to the top of the stairs and patty cake at me as I went up.  She died at age 13 of a heart condition.

2.  Christie, the smartest dog I’ve ever known.  She learned how to open a dog crate from the inside and there was just no stopping her.  She died at age 15, also of a heart condition.

3.  Sleuth, who always knew when I was coming home and would be at the door waiting for me, even though he was (in his later years) totally deaf and could barely stand up.  Dead at age 16 of an undiagnosed progressive disease.

4.  Millie, still alive but probably not for a lot longer as she has congestive heart failure and Cushing’s disease.  She’s 12 and has had multiple health problems all her life but that doesn’t stop her from having that cocky schipperke attitude.

5.  Molly, who died at age 10 of a type of aggressive cancer that small dogs aren’t supposed to get.  She was given to me by a friend and was a real gift in every way.

6.  James, currently age 6.  When I was having cancer treatment, James knew if I needed to rest and he would curl up beside me.  But if I was just being lazy, he would get up on the back of the couch and bark in my ear until I got up and took him for a walk.  Somehow he could always tell the difference.  My founder is named after him because James sees himself as being responsible for the household and takes a proprietorial interest in everything that happens.

7.  Mojo, a rescue who came to live with us last summer.  He is 4 now and eats everything.  When he first arrived and started eating the soap in the bathroom, I started putting the soap out of reach (I thought) on a shelf about 14” above the sink.  One evening there was a strange noise upstairs and I went up to find Mojo sitting in the pedestal sink!  I have no idea how he got up there - he’s just 20 pounds, so pretty small, and there’s nothing nearby to climb on.  Now the soap lives on top of the medicine cabinet where even I can barely reach it.

8.  Martha, another rescue who came last summer.  She was found running loose and in very neglected condition - some sorry excuse for a human being had just dumped her.  Age unknown, but estimated at about 13 - 15 years.  She was quite shy when she arrived but is gradually getting over that.

To be honest, I've never heard of that particular breed of dog. So, just now I Googled it and looked at the Schipperke Wiki Article. And here for how many months I've been pronouncing your forum name in my head as "Shi-pear-kee." That's how it looks to my eyes. But, the pronunciation says the first syllable is like a "ski" sound.  :)

Hi, I just wanted to say Schipperkes are great dogs, I have always wanted one since I was little. When I was growing up a neighbor had two. They remind me of little bears, unfortunatly my husband won the dog battle so we have a pug. I love that you are using your dogs in your story I hope your sims get some wonderful personalities from them.

Whenever I see a complicated word, I just scan it, and make a word out of the letters I saw. It's hard to explain. Anyway, in my head I was pronouncing it Shi-pri-kay. Weird, I know.

Thank you for that. So the emphasis is on the first syllable — skipper-kee. I was saying it with emphasis on the 2nd syllable, skiPUR-kee.  :D

Schipperke, we've totally hijacked your thread with all of this pronunciation babble!  :D

That's quite all right, I appreciate the interest.  It's quite easy to pronounce, really - skipper-key.  And if that's too hard to remember, you can always refer to the breed by their alternate name - Little Black Devils.  A name well earned, trust me!

Important Safety Advisory for Sim Fu Practitioners

Because of an infinitesimally small risk of eye damage while practicing Martial Arts, The Sim Fu Academy Elders now recommend that all Sim Fu students and adepts wear safety goggles while sparring.  These safety goggles are available at a modest price from the Sim Fu Academy in China and may occasionally be found at local Consignment Stores.

[Editor's note:  Ok, I know it's corny, but can you explain why these two put on glasses to spar when they never wear them at any other time?]
