Sculpting - Ice scupltures.
« on: August 26, 2010, 10:21:15 AM »
I have a little question to the ice sculpting part. I know that you have to sculpt 25 ice sculptures for getting icesculptures to never melt. But what about the 25 sculptures up til you unlock the skill challenge - will they melt??
Or are it just ice sculptures after you completed the skill challenge who dont melt??

Unfortunately, they melt until you reach the 25.  I just sell them or they become a puddle, lol.

Before you complete that sculpting challenge, you need to sell ice sculptures the same day.  In the Grim Reaper Challenge, my salesman elder missed going to the consignment store one day, and the following day all that was left of the two ice sculptures in the family inventory was a sad little puddle.

Yeah, those sculptures weren't worth much at that point.  Which makes me wonder, who buys all those ice sculptures at the store, knowing they'll be totally valueless within 24 hours?

Good one.  :D

If the sims are dumb enough to not see a guy holding 2 bushes, they are dumb enough to buy ice sculptures. :D

heehee.  Very lucrative puddles for my Sims, we hope!

Bshag, I think you're right.  If Sims were smarter it probably wouldn't be as much fun.

Coughs politely .... the Sims? Really? I seem to recall certain events on a world called Earth that also has statues carved out of ice (or even butter at times) which are being paid for and which do melt - EVEN if the creator of said sculpture has created MORE than 25 .... I am unsure how many ice sculptures must be created on planet Earth before they no longer melt ....  ;D

Do you think there's intelligent life on that world called Earth?  ;D

Is there a quick way to getting the 25 Sculptures challenge or am I going to have to miss out on a Toddler and YA life stage? I can get portraits but I doubt I will get Ice Sculptures.

I wish there was a quicker way, but the only way to shave off a little sim time, is striking out the que when you tell them to sculpt and then que the sim to sculpt again and the first quarter of whatever it is your sculpting will give way.   It takes off quite a bit of time, but other than that, that is it.

I didn't know that!  Thanks, Saltypaws, for sharing that bit of useful information.

Someone had posted that quite a while back when Ambitions first came out and I have been using it since.  Whoever it was even timed it.  I think it shaved off 2 sim hours, which is actually quite a bit when your on a timeline, lets see, 25 ice sculptures times 2.  Heck, 50 sim hours your saving, lol.  Not too bad. :)

So, it works like the painting exploit used to work?

I found that with the 20 sculptures challenge it shaved off a top quarter when it was started? Anyone else notice this or am I imagining things?

Some time ago, my sculptor made an Immoderate Water Fountain in ice:

It's a working water fountain, and I'd like her to make more of them, but for some reason it doesn't come up as one of the options where I can choose what I want her to make.  I thought once a sim had made a particular object, they could always replicate it.  Do sims forget how to make things?  Is there any way to get this back as a sculpting option?  She hasn't made anything new in a long time, even when I just tell her to "sculpt", without saying what.  It's rather sad if this is the only one she'll ever make.  If she had to forget something, I wish it had been that stupid freezer bunny thing!

No, not exactly.  When a sim starts sculpting, she spends a seemingly disproportionate time on the top section.  If you cancel the interaction while she is working on the top, then have her go back, she will automatically finish the top section and move on to the mid-section of the sculpture.  If this were akin to the painting exploit, cancelling her interaction now and then telling her to start again would allow her to immediately finish the mid-section and then continue to the next section.  This, however, does not happen; she merely continues working on the middle.

Thanks, Jonna.

@Schipperke:  I read on the Guide that sculpting in clay opens up the new pieces that haven't been done before.  Carl also says that the Immoderate Water Fountain is random.

I got that one too.  First time I have gotten it and I really like it.  I used moveobjects on cheat and put one of those flat floor lights under it after I changed the color and it is really pretty. Perfect addition to my dynasty's founders collection.
