2010 Tournament Finale: Setting the Stage for Maximum Moodlets

GOAL:

7 different Sims each represent a snapshot of +mood for the 7 different life stages. Your research and planning will help you “set the stage” to achieve the highest total +mood possible.

RULES:

First Things First
  • Stating your intent to participate is mandatory. You will then be added to the leaderboard.
  • Practicing ahead of time is fine. But, once you create a character for the real deal, that’s it—you are allowed a single attempt for score.
  • You must be patched up to the most current EA patch.
  • No cheats or modifications.
  • Exiting without saving to avoid a mistake or an unfortunate occurrence (i.e. burglar or fire) is cheating.

Getting Started
  • Create 2 Sims (game length = Normal) in a brand new Sunset Valley, Riverview, or Twinbrook neighborhood.
  • The relationship and ages of your initial 2 Sims is up to you.
  • Aging must be left on and Freewill must be on High.
  • You can only play/remodel stock neighborhood houses or build one yourself from scratch.
  • Twinbrook players can add the Book Corral to the town library via Edit Town. Otherwise, the Edit Town screen is off limits.

Adding to Your Household + Setting the Stage
  • There are no restrictions on marrying and number of children (natural or adoption is fine). But, you will eventually need to have 7 different household members supply the scores for the 7 different stages of a Sim’s life.
  • Each member of the household must supply one of the scores. In other words, you can’t pass over any household member for scoring.

Additional Restrictions and Info
  • The Moodlet Manager is banned.
  • Vacations are banned.
  • The Over-Emotional trait is banned.
  • As always, discussing strategy on how to achieve certain goals in this thread is not allowed. If you're unsure — don't say anything.
  • This challenge ends after playing your household for 10 weeks (Week 10, Day 7, 11:59 PM).

SCORING:

Scoring is based on total moodlet value of a Sim (remember to subtract negative moodlets too) at a specific snapshot in a life stage. All household members must supply one stage score, but no more than that. So, for example, let’s say you choose your firstborn (or first adopted Sim) Sim to supply the Teen score. That same Sim could not also supply the Young Adult score. The Young Adult score would need to come from a different Sim.

Multiple snapshots of a given Sim for a particular life stage is fine. It’s not a “one chance only” type of thing—if one Sim has a Young Adult score of 200 and the same Sim in the same life stage later has a moodlet total of 225, then obviously take the best score.

Another important point with scoring is you only count moodlets unique to each Sim. So, if 3 of your Sims all had “Having a Blast” moodlets at the time of their snapshots, that’s fine, but you’d only count that particular moodlet once. You would not be able to add "Having a Blast" to the total for 2 of the Sims. As long as a moodlet has a different name, then that qualifies for it to be scored (i.e. Good Meal and Great meal are different moodlets).

Post your results in this thread and I’ll update the table. Please do not list individual moodlets. Just total up the qualifying different moodlets for each life stage.

This Event is Now Closed

Challenge Begins: September 10
Challenge Ends: November 28

I cannot believe that this is the final challenge of the 2010 season. Wow. Where did the time go? Have fun with this one, everyone!

I'm posting this pretty far in advance of the official start date. To do well I think this will take a decent amount of prep work. Plus, I felt energetic today and just wanted to get it out of my to-do box.

I'd like to join.  If you get a moodlet with one effect, but you think you can get the same moodlet with a better effect on a different person later, do you have to count the moodlet the first time you get it, or can you choose?

You can choose. It comes down to basically writing down all moodlets (good and bad) from all Sims whenever you take their snapshots and then at the end of Week 10 you make sure each Sim only has Moodlets unique to them listed in their column. So, if Sim A has the Comfy moodlet at +20, and Sim B has the identical Comfy moodlet at +30, then you'd just cross out Sim A's Comfy moodlet.

I'm reminded vaguely of Yahtzee, except I assume it's slightly less random and the dice can't fall off the table.

Yes Please  ;D

OK, to get a few things straight, though I'm sure more questions will pop up along the way.
Now if every household member has to supply a score then one of the original pair would have to be a young adult at least, so that sim would have to provide either YA, Adult or Elder score.
mm, I thought I had two questions, but now I can't think what the other was (grey moment). Oh well, I'm sure someone else will ask it in time or I will remember what it was lol

What happens if you accidentally end up with 8 people in the household (like if a sim had twins)?  Also, can we move in sims that are not spouses or children?

Is the mean spirited trait banned? Or does the +5 moodlet for every enemy not count?

Move someone out.

Also, can we move in sims that are not spouses or children?

Sure.

Mean Spirited is not banned. Isn't that bonus hidden anyway?

EDIT: Okay, I did a little testing and see what you're saying about the "Enemy" moodlet. But, remember, your score is only based on unique moodlets of your 7 scoring Sims. If 4 different mean-spirited Sims all had different valued "Enemy" moodlets, it would not matter — they're all the same moodlet and you'd only pick the best one.

Ha, good thing I reread the rules. I'm doing some planing and testing and come back to check one thing I was pretty sure of (vacations being banned) and realised the over emotional trait was also banned.

I'm kind of surprised there aren't more sign-ups for this yet. Well, the Dynasty Challenge is probably distracting a lot of players, myself included. But, this Tournament Finale opens today, so I just wanted to bump this thread and remind everyone of that fact. As always, glance over the rules a final time before beginning and have fun!  :D

Count me in!

Maybe if you add it to the "Challenge Tourney" link more people will see it?  I didn't know it existed until I was posting my results for another challenge.  And Yes, the Dynasty Challenge has definately gotten me distracted! LoL.  You are too good Metro...  :D

Ah, glad you told me that. I'm always looking for an excuse to bug Carl about something since keeping that up to date is his domain.  :D

Good luck in this event, Lizzy.

Me too.  I'd like to sign up for this one, but don't add me to the list yet - I'll have to get back to you.  Right now, I am totally engrossed in that Dynasty of mine.

I am a tad confused with this one that is why I hadn't signed up. But I can't figure out what question to ask for clarification so I was hoping that with other question I will figure it out. But I think after rereading the rules I get it better now. But I still have a question? Do we have to predetermine which Sim will provide which life stage score? Or can we just get snapshots of all different life stages for each Sim and sort through which we would like to use in the end to get the best score? I don't know if what I am asking makes sense if not I can provide an example just say so.

Sure, I understand what you're asking and that's fine. As long as you adhere to main rules of different Sims supplying the different stage snapshots + the fact that each Sim must have different named moodlets to score.

Thanks Metro you can add me. I don't know when I will get around to starting it but I will give it a try. Luckily for me it is more for the fun then the competition as most of the time I am near the bottom of the leaderboard. It all ok with me though. I have fun playing. And as I don't know too much about the moodlets I don't predict a good score but a score none the less.
