These instructions are strictly for using Photobucket, a free Internet image hosting service.  Other image hosting services are probably very similar in the way they work.

  • Capture the screenshot in-game using the camera button.
  • The screenshots will be on your computer under:
  • C:\Users\*Your User Name*\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Screenshots in Windows Vista
  • C:\Documents and Settings\*Your User Name*\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Screenshots in Windows XP
  • Users > *Your User Name* > Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Screenshots (for Mac OS X)
  • Go to http://photobucket.com and create an account if you don't already have one.
  • Upload the screenshot to your Photobucket account.
  • Use the Edit feature on the image to resize to 640 x 480.
  • Click on Save and Get Links.
  • The code you need is the IMG code.  Copy the entire code for images, which will include the image tags.
  • Now...  go to the forum post and put the cursor where you want your image to show up.  Paste the code in that spot.
  • Click Preview to make sure everything looks good, then click Post.
  • Done!!

As always, let us know if you have questions or problems!

Are there any size restrictions?

We ask that you resize your images to 640 x 480, which is the best size to use in a forum such as this.  You can do this within the image tool link that's on every post you make.

And welcome!

I've never tried following this guide actually. Here's what I do:

After uploading the image to Photobucket, first resize to Large(640x480) if it's too big.
Then simply copy the "IMG code" and paste that to your post; no need to use the Insert Image button.

Done.

Here's your picture:

Skip the whole "Post to website" business, I don't know what that's all about. Start all over in Photobucket.

Just click on your pic in photobucket; I opened it by clicking on the first link in your post. To the left is says "Share this image". Copy the code called "IMG Code" and just paste that in your post.

The image tags are required as part of the code for the picture to show up.

There are technically two ways to post images to the forum.  One us using Photobucket and pasting the image code.  The other is to use the "Add image to post" link located below all the smilies when you're typing your post.  This second one was really great until it started automatically putting thumbnails instead of full size images.  I've gone back to using Photobucket myself.

I think I'm going to go the Photobucket route myself. Those tiny photos from "Add Image..." stink.

If the first listing for the chain of where to find screenshots in the top post is supposed to be Mac OS X, then the name should be changed as well as removing the C:

I'd do it, but I want to make sure that's the case.

This one where it says Windows Vista?

  • C:\Users\*Your User Name*\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Screenshots in Windows Vista

No that's for Windows Vista, heh. And I can confirm it's the same for Windows 7.

Maybe just add the one for Mac, Metro? Or PM it to Pam.

It's pretty much the same path for OS X but there's no C:

Users > *Your User Name* > Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Screenshots (for Mac OS X)

I'll make the edit.

I can't find where to resize the image to 640 x 480. I thought I did, but that was just zooming in.

Testing from Photobucket ... original source Mac O X.  I resized before uploading to Photobucket, and then copy/paste the Img code.

Did you move the picture to a different folder in Photobucket?  It has to always stay in the same place for it to show up on the forum, or you have to change the image link after you move the picture.

I just put the one pic in there to see if it would work, when I hit the preview, it was in there.  Will try again, I am not real familiar with photobucket, if it doesn't work, will just keep using the dumb little thumbnail, lol.  Will try again and post it to see if I can fix it.

Ok, trying again. Made new album, saved it, named it and see if it works.  Let me know.

Wow, on my end a little big, will resize if this is working.

You can resize it on Photobucket.  The size we want is 480 x 640 (large).

Any particular reason why Photobucket keeps on deleting the titles of my photos and putting them out of order?

Is there a way for Photobucket to autmoatically resize images on upload? Or does it have to be manual?

I do the bulk download to do all of my pics and just below where they download to, find where it says max image size and right next to it click on "more options" and a small box will come up and you choose what size you want your pics and then click save and it will size all of your pictures without doing them one at a time.  I just found this out a couple of weeks ago and sure saves alot of time when you have 20 pictures to size.  Hope this helps.  Only thing is, everytime you upload, you have to change it again, which is no problem, that only takes a second.  Good luck. ;D

Photobucket now have an easier method that now stays the same each time!

When you go to the photobucket website you will see a green button with Upload on it, click that to get to the screen below:

Before you click Select photos and videos first choose Customize your upload options to get this screen:

Now select the picture size of the forum which is 640x480 or lower and press save. You can now upload your photos/videos and it will be automatically saved, the best thing is though that photobucket seems to have remembered that I set it to 640x480 and I haven't needed to change it since I tried it so now all my pictures and being uploaded and re-sized to 640x380!

Hope this helps some of the story tellers who use photobucket!

I didn't know where to put this so I just added it to the existing thread on posting images to the forum.
