Shades of Red.. Now in Riverview
« on: November 09, 2010, 10:06:16 PM »
Edit: Had to start over.. you can find the first post of the new story http://www.carls-sims-3-forum.com/index.php/topic,2439.70.html

Hey folks.. this is probably my 10th attempt or so of making a Dynasty. The last one I was working on ended tragically when my first and hopefully only meteor strike occurred. I decided to give Bridgeport a fair shake and so Rufous Red was born. The naming theme for this Dynasty will be different shades of red.. hence the title of my "story"

I'm not really a storyteller, so we'll just document the life and times of Rufous and see  where it leads us.

This is Rufous.. sporting his rufous red hair and shirt. He's actually not a bad looking fella.

Rufous is not really a city boy at heart. he needs some grass and trees around him and some room to build a garden. So he found a nice plot of land outside the city proper at 64 Applewood Lane. While not a beautiful vista, it is still a nice view of Bridgeport across the river. (at certain angles anyways)

Rufous got a little cagey his first day in Bridgeport. Almost stalkerish. He just knew who his bride was going to be and even somehow knew exactly where she lived. A young adult living alone at 8517 Sterling Parkway, who happens to have the artistic trait. Rufous went to pay her a visit post-haste.

After a slight disagreement with the elevator door..

Rufous introduces himself to the future Mrs. Red

Say Hello to Caroline Custard

After a day of pleasant conversation, a little flirting..

Maybe even a kiss or 2..

Rufous thought the time was right and asked the question..

And was denied...

It was a brief sad moment, but this did not deter our intrepid hero.. he decided to bring in the big guns...

A musical guest by the one and only Matthew Hamming. After that, who couldn't resist a little cuddling

And of course a massage the morning after..

The question was asked once more, with his heart on his sleeve and some bling in his hand..

Success!! The answer was yes and they immediately made it official. Let the games begin.

The proceeds from Caroline's contributions to bank account allowed Rufous to build a nice little dwelling.

Rufous then immediatly got himself a job at Hogan's Deep-Fried Diner and then practically lived at the library studying cooking, while Caroline immersed herself in the world of art. It wasn't all work work work (at least for Rufous). He did manage to visit the local butterfly habitat at the park.

Once Caroline was able to paint portraits she immediatly painted Rufous's young adult portrait and then started to bang the chisel in hopes of banging out 25 ice sculptures before Rufous ages up to adult.

After about a week and half, Rufous finally got his garden started..

And Caroline is working hard at her sculptures.

So far you're doing great! Congrats on all the moves Mr.Red did to get himself Mrs.Red, bringing Matthew was was thin ice, but luckily she was already wrapped up in Rufous game! It's shame that lot doesn't have beautiful vista, but as you said, at least it is a nice view. Good luck, and bring your Reds to the HoF.

Matthew just showed up, apparently he and Caroline were already friends. I just continued to put the moves on Caroline until Rufous won her over.

A couple weeks have gone by, nothing really exciting. Rufous and Caroline continued to improve upon their skills. In time Rufous becaome an adult and Caroline followed him a day later.

As Rufous was working on his garden.. a little visitor showed up. Itink she is supposed to be scary but she's to ute to get rid of.

Time continued to  move along, Rufous's skill in the kitchen was improving and his garden was getting bigger. Caroline made her 25th ice sculptor the day before Rufous aged so along with the portraits, there are also ice sculptors and photo's of Rufous.

Rufous still has a lot to do before he can taste the ambrosia, but one very important step needs to take place very soon. In fact it's happening right now.

Welcome Ruby Red.. whew.

Ruby.. the intended immortal artist of the family. Such a small beginning and the light of her daddy's eyes.

Ruby required quite a bit of attention during her first few days. and she kept her parents hopping trying to keep her social skill up there. Then it was birthday time and Ruby became a toddler.

She learned to talk..

To Potty..

And of course to walk.. Mommy helped her every step of the way.

Once the big three were learned, it was time for Caroline to introduce Ruby to the world of art. Here she is reading Handprints of the Masters to her.

In order for the Dynasty to continue, Caroline also painted Ruby's portrait, took a photo and made an ice sculpture.

More time went by, and it was time for another birthday for Ruby.

Looks like we are going to have a little emo artist on our hands. So far Ruby has earned 3 traits. Artistic, Excitable and Photographer's Eye.

Rufous hasn't been lounging around all this time.. let's check off how he is doing in his bid for immortality.

Lifetime Wish: Celebrated Five-Star Chef - completed
Unique Career Maxed: Cooking - complted
Unique Skill SuperMaxed: Gardening
Investments: Hogan's Deep Fried Diner;
Unique Rewards: Super Green Thumb; No Bills Ever; Fireproof Homestead - completed
Blackops: Fresh Cookies for Sale!; All-New Bi-Pedal Dishwashing Machine; Insider Dining; From One Chef to Another; Outstanding Tasting Ingredients; Uncommonly Good - Completed
6 Unique Best Friends: Wayne Bumble; Odine Perry; Alexy Fresco; Barry Tenderlove; Caroline Red;
Museum Portraits: Young Adult; Adult;

He's getting closer.

And the story continues. Shortly after Ruby grew up, a burglar struck. He apparently disabled the security cameras and when the Red family woke up, Rufous's Young Adult statue was gone. Needless to say, Rufous bought a security alarm that very same day.

Life does go on and Caroline was in the midst of achieving her Descendant of da Vinci lifetime wish when she ran out of scrap.

Ruby liked to spend time working on her painting while her mother creates some crazy looking stuff from scrap.

One of Caroline's bigger inventions was the Miner, which Rufous plans to use to create a tunnel system to the city to hopefully save time on the commute.

A couple birthdays happened within days of each other. First Rufous aged to elder status. He immediately broke out the hair dye. No grey hair for this elder.

Then it was Ruby's turn to go from child to teen. Make a wish Ruby.

Ruby does have a bit of a wild streak in her and she decided a new haircut was in order, and a little makeup.

Of course she still has her playful side.

Meanwhile Rufous is so close to immortality he can just about taste that ambrosia. But first he needs another key ingredient.

It would also help if he knew how to make it.

Once the recipe was engraved in his memory he checked off his achievements.

  • Lifetime Wish: Celebrated Five-Star Chef - Check
  • SuperMax Skill: Gardening - Check
  • Career: Cooking - Check
  • Purchased Property: Hogan's Deep Fried Diner, Smuggler's Cove - Check
  • Lifetime Rewards: Super Green Thumb, No Bills Ever, Fireproof Homestead - Check
  • BlackOps: Fresh Cookies for Sale!, All-New Bi-Pedal Dishwashing Machine, Insider Dining, From One Chef to Another, Outstanding Tasting Ingredients, Uncommonly Good - Check
  • Best Friends: Barry Tenderlove, Odine Perry, Apollo Bloom, Caroline Red, Lisa King, Lea Wing - Check
  • Portraits: Young Adult, Adult, Elder - Check

The list is complete.. time to make the Ambrosia.

Oh, this IS tasty!

Ahhh, Immortality at last.

Ormonster, that's brilliant idea, making tunnels to speed commuting time! And Ruby does look like having a wild side, almost as one of eccentric artists usually find in big places such as BP.
It's scary that burglar got one of museum pieces, but luckily it is not necessary for ambrosia to have it. Still I know how hard it can be to reach enough skill in time so spouse can sculpt that ice sculpture, such a shame, but your Red Dynasty can get it over!
Great job and keep it up!

Thanks for the comments guys.. This is the start of a big update. So here we go.

Shortly after becoming Immortal Rufous decided to try out his tunnel experiment. First he had to dig a hole somewhere in the city. After much deliberation, he chose Civic Plaza. Timing his route on the way there to dig he found it took roughly an hour and a half. Time to start digging.

It took all day and into the evening hours but he finally finished the tunnel. The next day it was time to test his theory.

It worked! on multiple trips, Rufous found that it took only one hour to get to Civic Plaza by using the tunnel. He managed to shave a half hour off his commute time.

Now it's time to see how Ruby is doing. While Ruby continued her education in the arts she also managed to keep up with her regular school work.

Time waits for no one and soon it was Ruby's birthday again, now it's time to become a young adult and put her youth behind her. But first, it's party time.

Ruby invited all her classmates to the party, but the one she really wanted there was her best friend Cesar Marin. Ruby met him when she first started high school and decided he would be the one.

Caroline bought out the cake and it was time for Ruby to blow out the candles.

Happy Birthday Ruby

Ruby wasted no time. The next day she posed for her portrait and sculpture and then called Cesar and invited him over. Ruby had some very important things she wanted to discus with him.

The first ice sculpture didn't come out exactly as Ruby imagined it would.

Cesar showed up and it was time to begin the wooing.

The first kiss

Then shortly after.. the proposal.

Naturally following the proposal, came the marriage.

And we all know what comes after that particular step.

In the distance.. wind chimes are heard.

Rufous picks up a new hobby.

Ruby on the other hand picked up more than a new hobby.

Ruby was on her way to her first day as a snitch for the Bridgeport Police Dept when something suddenly changed those plans.

It was bound to happen. Caroline has lived a full life and it was time to shuffle off this mortal coil.

No amount of pleading could stave off this event

Rufous took a corner of his property and made it a place to lay his beloved Caroline to rest.

Life must go on however and with the passing of one life another will join the family

Let's welcome Mauve Red to the world

It is a bit on the purplish side, but it was also listed on the list of shades of red I'm using so I went with it because I wanted something that wasn't as dark as the Rufous and Ruby are.

I actually stole the color idea from Pam. I wanted a theme and could not think of anything original.

Mauve was very much loved.. especially by grandpa Rufous

It wasn't long before she aged up to toddler.

Ruby immediately made sure Mauve had her portrait done.

Cesar had to work hard and possibly go a little bit crazy to get the 25 ice sculptures completed before Mauve's next birthday.

He did it, 1 day before Mauve's birthday.

Caroline was feeling a bit bored wherever she was hanging out, so she came back to the house to play some video games.

And now it's time for Mauve's birthday. Grandpa Rufous takes her to the cake and helps her blow out the candle.

Mauve was very excited.. she was going to be a big girl now.

Time for a change of clothes. The little martial artist adventurer needed the proper outfit.

So where were we? Ah yes, little Mauve is now a child. The gnomes seem to be multiplying , but except for the vampire gnomes they are staying mostly around the garden.

Mauve got all her required museum  pieces finished.

Ruby has been working her way up the ladder in the Bridgeport PD

Ruby has been spending all her time in front of the sculpting station lately that her birthday seemed to come on unexpectedly.

Cesar also had a birthday.

Caroline is still making her occasional appearances.

One more birthday in the books and Mauve is now a teenager

Mauve has big plans. She wants to serve her country in the Military, master the Martial Arts and fulfill her life long dream of Physical Perfection. It's time to put childish things away and begin training, she won't be a teen forever. *Cue "Eye of the Tiger"*

Rufous's hobby of fishing has been kicked up a notch. He is determined to catch a perfect specimen of every species of fish.. and mount them. He thought about putting them in an aquarium but the chore to feed them would be too much he felt.

*Eye of the Tiger*

And before you know it.. it's Birthday time again for Mauve.

Afterward she immediately called Desmond Parr, her childhood friend, over and told him the great news.

Desmond was very happy to hear this.

Mauve was very happy that Desmond was happy and so she wasted no time...

Mauve's wanderlust kicked in and it was time to visit China

First up.. she had to stock up on needed supplies

Then it was time to explore

Even under water

It's a good thing she maxed athletics.. she breaks rocks like nobody's business

She made sure to get around faster by borrowing her Grandfather's car

China is going to be tough to revisit. The game constantly pauses where you can still see stuff moving like water flowing and the plumb bob spinning but you can't click anything, but not when I pause the game and only in China. Bridgeport, Egypt and France all run fine. it's weird. But Mauve is going to get Pangu's Axe no matter how annoyed I get.

Mauve knew she would be stuck at home for a while once the pregnancy became official, so she hightailed it to the airport and landed in Al Simhara, Egypt. Whew.. it is hot here.

She went gangbusters exploring the pyramids

It took some doing, but Mauve got her visa upgraded

Then it was back to the tombs...

Where she met King Raymundo Rodiekhkare

Mauve was not scared of ol Raymundo and let him know that in no uncertain terms.

The day After the Egypt excursion it was Ruby's elder birthday

You can't see it here but mean spirited Desmond is laughing at poor Ruby as she ages up. Don't worry, Ruby will get the last bittersweet laugh.

And later on that evening Mauve is officially pregnant.

Unfortunately as Cesar was painting Ruby's elder portrait... Grim came to to town.

There was no begging.. Cesar shook Grim's hand and said I led a full life and it's time to go. He was 94

His headstone was moved to the family plot

Mauve hated being stuck at home, she couldn't even break boards in her condition. So in preparation for her next trip to Egypt, she practiced Snake Charming.. you know, just in case.

Desmond had to take 5 days unpaid leave from his job as a toddler sports coach to learn how to paint well enough to paint Ruby's portrait.. his payback for laughing at Ruby.

He did love his wife and unborn child.

Mauve has learned how to charm a Cobra and even kiss it.

Finally the day arrived and a new Red was born.. Rusty Red

Been very busy lately.. but here's a short little update.

Mauve did not give up. She made a promise to obtain Pangu's Axe and now she has fulfilled it.

You do not want to get in her way, I almost feel bad for the rocks.

Nice pictures of Mauve finding the axe, I can't believe I actually forgot to capture that moment in my story. I like the sound of the name Rusty Red.

Go Mauve, you can do it!
I never had that wall up in game! Axe always seem to be floating in air :D
I must admit I never heared a name Mauve before, and now it's in at least 2 dynasties. But she looks like a passionate explorer, those mummies better run from her. Looking forward to read more.

Good attempt Ormonster! Good luck on your next try.

I have a notebook where I write everything down (laptop doesn't like opening any other program when running the Sims 3) and when I get the notice that their birthday is soon, I check everything over and fill in any blanks.

I actually made my own spreadsheet that was working pretty well. I was just playing along without thinking and as soon as Rusty aged I went "Oh No!" as it dawned on me what I forgot to do. I double checked the museum but I knew it wasn't there.  As long as I tell myself it's just a game it's all good. I already started over in Riverview with a new founder Rand Althor.

Hmmm Rufous Red. Haven't we seen him somewhere before? He certainly does look familiar. Anyways, welcome to Riverview Rufous.

It seems Riverview has had some recent developments lately. It's got a whole new skyline.

Now as we all know, Rufous isn't one to beat around the bush. He had his eyes set on Constance Shelly and so he decided to pay her a visit.

It took 2 days of Wooing, since Constance was a good girl and wouldn't kiss on the first date.

On the second day Rufous popped the question and Constance Shelly became Constance Red.

Constance came with a car and laptop which was pawned to build the new Red compound.

Well, one thing led to another and they decided to try out the new bed.. Was that wind chimes I heard in the distance?

Most people go for rich spouses to help them in the early days. This is why Holly Alto and Agnes Crumplebottom are popular.

Whew.. it's tough to start over again. Moving right along now. Constance's traits are Neurotic, Absent Minded, Bookworm, Perfectionist and Clumsy. The only one that really annoys me is the Absent Minded trait. I'll set up some queues for her then jump over to Rufous and when I check again she forgot what she was supposed to do halfway through. Still, gotta love her.

After a bit of a makeover, she immediately started working on her painting skills.

But a little bout of sickness kept interrupting her work. Must have been something she ate.

Ok.. maybe not ate, but it definitely had something to do with her tummy.

The big day arrived and while Constance took it very calmly, Rufous was a wreck.

And there he is. A bouncing baby boy. Named Vermilion? Sounds like he should be in Slytherin house. Anyways,  welcome to little Vermilion Red!

Nice to see Rufous is back, I was a bit curious about the founder with the Wheel of time name though. Vermillion sounds cool; didn’t know that was a colour pigment so I’m learning new words here.

Rufous has been pretty busy working on his cooking and gardening, but this update is mainly for Vermilion

The baby time was like all baby time.. snuggle, feed bottle, change diaper, play with. Finally it was time for Vermilion to become a toddler.

Rufous came in from the garden (and the sprinkler) to celebrate.

Here it comes.

Happy Birthday Vermilion
