My Garden of Eatin' Smells Fishy!

My Garden of Eatin’ Smells Fishy!

Goal
Make as much money as possible from fishing, gardening and cooking/Culinary career. Obtaining Perfect fish, plant and recipe quality as well as completing fishing, gardening and cooking/Culinary career opportunities is also key.

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply. Exceptions to the General Challenge Rules will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules
  • Create 1 Young Adult Sim.
  • You may not add to the household.
  • Moving is not allowed.
  • Planting seeds can only be done on your home lot. Harvesting/seed finding can be done anywhere in your town and on vacation.
  • You are restricted to planting a maximum of 3 Omni Plants.
  • All income is restricted to fishing, gardening and/or cooking activities (opportunities, gardening/fishing/culinary career, and plant/fish sales. This means you cannot delete any household items, sell certificates, etc. All harvests from all plants qualifies to go towards Household income).
  • You are allowed a maximum of 6 vacation days in each of the 3 World Adventures’ locations. You can break this up however you wish.
  • This challenge ends after playing your household for 12 weeks (Week 12, Day 7, 11:59 PM).

Scoring

Household Funds — Write down your total Household Funds at the end of 12 weeks.

Mult — Everyone begins with a multiplier value of 1.00. Each different Perfect fish, plant (the parent plant quality is what counts and the plant must have reached the Mature stage), and recipe adds 1% (.01) to your Mult. Variations of a recipe (i.e. Grape Pancakes vs. Apple Pancakes or Hamburger vs. Veggie Burger) are not considered different recipes. Kicking up a Recipe a Notch to Perfect DOES NOT count towards the multiplier. A recipe must be Perfect right off the stove or out of the oven, etc. Each different completed gardening, cooking/culinary career, and fishing opportunity also adds 1% to your Mult. Special opportunities and Celebrity opportunities do not increase the Mult and multiples of the same different fish/plant/recipe/opportunity do not count — it's a one time boost.

Total — Take your Household Funds and multiply it by the Mult for your Total. Drop the decimal portion of your Total score. List all 3 scoring components in your final post.

Example: At the end of 12 weeks you have 1,234,567 in Household Funds. You’ve planted 15 different Perfect plants, cooked 16 different Perfect meals, caught 17 different Perfect fish, and completed 18 different opportunities.

15 + 16 + 17 + 18 = 66%. 1.00 + .66 = 1.66.

Your Total is 1,234,567 X 1.66 = 2,049,381.22

Drop the decimal portion of your total = 2,049,381.

  • You are allowed a maximum of 6 vacation days in each of the 3 World Adventures’ locations. You can break this up however you wish.

I just want to clarify this:  we get 6 days at each location?  Or 6 days total to split between the 3 locations?

Yeah, that's a little confusing.  It says 6 days in EACH of the locations, which sounds like a total of 18 days.  But then it says we can break it up however we wish, which makes it sound like like 6 days total.

I took it as 6 days in each location for a total of 18 vacation days but I am a little confused by the multiplier.
Mult — Everyone begins with a multiplier value of 1.00. Each different Perfect fish, plant (the parent plant quality counts), and recipe adds 1% (.01) to your Mult. Each different completed gardening, cooking/culinary career, and fishing opportunity also adds 1% to your Mult. Special opportunities and Celebrity opportunities do not increase the Mult.

The parent plant quality is a bit confusing to me. Does that mean the plant needs to be a perfect plant and that the quality of the fruit doesn't matter (obviously it would be perfect as well)?
And what if you get the same opportunity more than once can you count it each time you complete it? I am not sure if you can get an opportunity more than once but I thought I read that you can?
Also nothing for the skill challenges or is that what was meant by opportunity?
What do you mean by special opportunities?
Lastly is the perfect fish, plant, and recipe a group thing? Like all 3 count as 1 multiplier or each one counts as one?
I think that sums it up sorry to be a pain! Oh can we start practicing now?

momofmany-

The plant itself has to be perfect in order to count- you could get a perfect apple off of an outstanding apple tree, so you actually have to have a perfect plant in the ground.

Each opportunity has to be different in order to count towards your multiplier.  Skill opportunities are the ones that you can accept/cancel, such as deliver so many fruit to so and so...I don't believe that Master planter, etc. count towards the multiplier.  Special opportunities are the ones around town like chess tournament, eating contest, etc.

Each perfect plant, fish, recipe count as .01 towards your multiplier, so your apple, grape, lettuce (each one perfect) would bring you .03 onto your multiplier.

I assume you can practice now, I have already started testing myself.

Six days in each location, for a total of 18 travel days, as you say.  The 6 days for each location can be taken as one trip of 6 days, 6 trips of one day, or anything in between - I think that's what's meant by breaking it up however we wish.  That's my take on it.

Unless something is specifically banned, then it's allowed.

Still, the challenge says no income through other methods then career, fishing, and gardening.

After writing out the rules I see that all my previous questions where pretty obvious. I just over looked alot.

All income is restricted to fishing, gardening and/or cooking activities (opportunities, gardening/fishing/culinary career, and plant/fish sales).

But it allows plant and fish sales so I would say that the consignment store would fit in the sales part.

Yes, but why would that mean the consignment store is banned?  You can sell fish and produce there.  If Metro didn't want us to use the consignment store, he would have said so.

The rules specifically state that sales of plants/fish are okay. If you can't do something, then a specific ban will always be mentioned.

EDIT: On the number of vacation days — it's 6 days in each of the World Adventures' location. So, it's 18 total days allowed. You can break it up however you want, meaning, if you want to take a one day trip to China, and then a 5 day trip to China next time, fine. You're still restricted to a maximum of 6 days in each place. It's how you wish to break up each of those 6 days is what I was getting at.

EDIT: Noobertuber, I removed your last post. I'm assuming I do not need to go into detail why I did so. Read the General Rules again on the issue of discussing strategy.

After receiving a question via PM I added a clarification at the end of the following rule:

  • All income is restricted to fishing, gardening and/or cooking activities (opportunities, gardening/fishing/culinary career, and plant/fish sales. All harvest from all plants qualifies to go towards Household income).

Definitely. Profession income (Angler and/or Gardening) would also qualify to go towards Household income. I'll clarify that as well.

EDIT: I guess I don't need to clarify that. The way the rule reads that I just edited above covers the self-employed careers.

I am looking forward to this should be quite relaxing to just have one Sim around the house instead of a houseful.

Fantastic, first challenge of 2011, sign me up for this. After a disastrous 2010 for challenges (mainly due to lack of time on my part), i'm hoping to do as many of this year's challenges as possible.

Stating intent to participate in individual challenge threads is no longer the protocol for the 2011 Tournament. You need to read the 2010 Tournament and Roster Sticky and PM me. That just tells me that you've read and understand all the General Rules.

It's a Sticky right in this Challenge board called 2011 Sims 3 Tournament and Roster. In fact, I just added a "Read This First" note to flag players.

Each different completed gardening, cooking/culinary career, and fishing opportunity also adds 1% to your Mult.

Just to be absolutely clear, we should write down the title of each opportunity we accept, so as to not count the same opportunity twice?
