So was that, yes you can add a game made, (made by EA not a member),  community garden, (as in copying the TB Community Garden and placing it on a lot in a gardenless town), or no just deal with it?

You have to deal with whatever each town has to offer. You can place bars, consignment shops, salons, firestations, etc on vacant lots. That's fine. But, you cannot copy one town's community garden and use it in a different town.

Ok, last question, (for awhile anyway, lol), I believe the travel bug is still in effect.  If so, won't that make for problems for us going to foreign lands for recipes, fish, whatever since we have to go as singles, not a married couple.  This could mean we'd have to restart from a save point.  IF that happens, do we have to come here and ask you for an ok?

Yes, if you're hit with the travel bug, let me know immediately and we'll go from there.

Is it up to us whether we use the consignment store or sell direct?

Am I just having a monumentally bad run of luck or have they increased burglar rates? Previously my sims have rarely been burgled - in past challenges I'd get maybe 1 per game and they'd only ever steal the toilet and a light. In my test attempts I'm getting burgled every other week!

Well, I think it's bad luck, Nancy. I have not been testing the next challenge yet (I do not know if I even will, I have a pretty good idea of what to do), but I've played about 20 weeks in my Dynasty and they were robbed once. Why would your burglars steal anything? Don't you have an alarm? That pretty much freezes them in their tracks when they hit the lot.

I do have an alarm now, but usually early game I don't have one - they're expensive, and then I forget until I get burgled ;) Maybe its the lot I've chosen, I've never used it before.

Nancy I've been play testing as well and into week 5 with no burglar.  I always make a burglar alarm a priority but so far no one has even come sniffing around.  Just the paparazzi which I've foiled.

I already have a question.  I was reading the rules and I did not see any where that the lifespan had to be normal.  I would think that would mean that we can have long or epic.  I like to keep playing the game after the challenge is done.

In the general rules all lifespans are normal!

We had 12 weeks in this challenge right?? On normal lifespan when you create a young adult i dont think they would normally live 12 weeks in game, just 8 or 9.

And I thought most of the challenges this year were set on Long.  Not sure why it's Normal this year.

I think its so that that anyone doing the dynasty challenge doesn't have to keep changing their settings.

But, not to give away too much strategy but this challenge is about fishing and gardening and cooking *hint* *hint*.... or just get a tattoo.

I was wondering the same. In general rules is stated that we have an option to prolong our Sims life the way we want if it is not banned in specific challenge. In this one it is not banned, so we have a choice. I had to reread general rules and there it was.

Three questions:

1. What is the travelling bug? I'm getting World Adventures for Xmas and won't have a lot of time to check it out before the challenge, so I'd like to know what I'm up against. I checked official forums and have found about five different bugs so far, I just want to know what exactly to expect so I can notify Metro ASAP. (E.g. from what I've read, is it that the Sim gets cloned, all town lots are empty and blue, you can't interact with other Sims...?)

2. So different variations of recipes don't apply (e.g. apple/grape pancakes) does that include different versions of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food or are they separate?

3. Also, I assume this is allowed but just double checking really. Any items you catch while fishing (e.g. the gnome) you're allowed to sell?

I honestly have not fallen victim to the traveling bug(s). I don't think there's just one bug. The main one I'm aware of is a Sim's family tree can become busted — phantom kids/spouses from other WA towns upon returning to the home town.

I think someone else asked about this. If you mean a vegetarian version of an existing recipe, no, it's still named the same thing. Give me an example, just so we're clear on this.

3. Also, I assume this is allowed but just double checking really. Any items you catch while fishing (e.g. the gnome) you're allowed to sell?

Right.

The vegetarian recipes are  tofu dogs and tursokey and veggie burgers - can't think of any others. They're straight replacements for hot dogs, stuffed turkey and hamburgers

Part of me wants to allow these to boost the multiplier. Part of me doesn't to keep things simpler. Vegetarian recipes and their ingredients are not listed on the Guide.

EDIT: Okay, I just found this list which is a little more complete:

http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/Cooking_(The_Sims_3)

The ingredients are the same?

Okay, folks...I clarified the wording in the rule a bit....

Variations of a recipe (i.e. Grape Pancakes vs. Apple Pancakes or Hamburger vs. Veggie Burger) are not considered different recipes.

This will be my first challenge - I'm looking forward to it!  ;D

- Edit -
I forgot to add in my question!
Just clarifying - does this challenge go for 12 Sim weeks?

Thanks for that, it was just me being a bit slow. For some reason I thought vegetarians could make both versions of the dishes ::)

It was just one of those days, thanks for clarifying.

I'm glad it was brought up. I had never done anything with a vegetarian before, so I had to see things for myself and did some testing yesterday. Yeah, as NancyJ said, they're just straight replacements with the SAME ingredients. That's the funny part. "I'm a vegetarian and I'm going to use patties to make Veggie Burgers." Players want magic in the game? There you go. Wave the magic wand and the meat patty is now a different patty. :)

For traveling bugs, gamebreaker for this challenge would be when your Sim can't go back home, only solution to that one is to reload earlier save. Others are workable (bouncing Sims, mystery child, bugged adventure board, etc) since they don't directly interfere with this challenge.
