Self Employment
« on: December 04, 2010, 12:52:28 PM »
After reaching level 10 in a self-employment career (eg. Fishing), other than the sound effect, do you get anything for filling in the experience bar? Mine has filled in several times now and every time it plays a sound effect as if something amazing just happened but as far as I can tell, nothing happens. Is this just something so that ambitious sims don't get anxious?

My Dynasty Fisherman, Painter and Sculptor have been doing their jobs for a very long time - many lifetimes' worth, at this point - and as you say, the experience bar keeps filling in, but I haven't noticed anything happening.

I don't see anything happen, either.  I think it just gives you a goal to still work toward, but without any tangible reward.

Try this trick that I do — once you hit the cap in a profession, quit. Then immediately turn around and join the profession again. You'll be at level 5 to start and get those nice bonuses/wishes all over again. For a gardener with a truckload of Money Trees it can be a nice cycle to get into.

Well there's an idea. Mainly because of the wishes you get again. I wish I could put down my skill levels without cheating to level 9 and just milk the lifetime happiness gained from "master x skill" wishes. Bizzarely, I actually did this with the "buy a portable gnubb set" wish. I would buy a set, click live mode, get 1000 LTH points ad then delete it again. Then wait for it to pop up again and hey presto...1000 more LTH points  ;D

Not completely useless.  If you have an ambitious sim that's self-employed, filling the bar removes the "Anxious to Advance" moodlet.

But other than that, yes it's useless.

Isn't the sound playing after filling the bar the sound you hear after a tomb has been completed or the opportunity chain in foreign countries was finished?
