This one is going to be so much fun :D I love the writing skill, even though it sucks the fun bar. But reading will kind of balance it out. One thing I'm sad about is that I have to wait till the day before my birthday to start it :(

This challenge looks great! The writing skill is very easy to master and you can receive lots of money from it. And nearly all the books are in the library! One thing I would like to ask, can our sims count books found and read while using the time machine or etc. and can we use any cheats, such as buydebug to get the time machine, or, as always, there are no cheats allowed?

Well, why wouldn't they? The Books Read multiplier means ALL books that kick that stat up obviously will work for you.

Although you are probably right, I still think I will include that in my testing either way since then I won't have to wonder...

Books read at the library still count.  You dont have to own the book for it to count.

Also, simply since it relates to writing, I forget, will books writen by your own sim eventually show up in the library as well?

I don't know if they all do, but I've certainly found library books that my sim had written.

Either way it doesn't really matter since you get a free copy and I don't think selling the books at the consignment store will count towards the score.

All of the books written by your sim do show up in the library bookcases. Also, if you have Ambitions, you can buy the books written by your sim via the computer if you want to, but this makes no sense, as you'll get the books by mail anyway.

Just to clarify, you are allowed to sell other things whilst writing, right? For example, you initially bought a cheap bed, but now you have enough money for a more expensive one, you can sell the old bed, right?

Nobi, since the scoring is based on money earned writing, which is recorded under the writing skill, it should be fine to sell the cheap bed.  It doesn't matter how much money you end up with in this challenge, just how much you've earned through writing.

That's right, Schip. This event differs from an event like Garden of Eatin' where sources of income are restricted because the measure at the end is Household Funds vs a Skill Journal stat.

It is. However, you and everyone else need to be aware of an inevitable scoring change I'm almost certain to make. After quite a bit of testing for this event with my Dynasty writer the Book multiplier value at 5% is way too high. It will probably be lowered to 1%. I'm not going to go into why with numerical examples, obviously. But, I'm pretty sure it will be more balanced.

Uh-oh.  This is going to make a significant change in strategy for my contender.  Less readin', more writin', to make the 'rithmetic come out right!   ;) When do you think you'll know for sure on this?

How about right now? Done. I'm changing the multiplier to 1%.

Probably I misread the rules (I read them on a mobile phone), but at which setting must the aging be set on? Or can we turn aging off? Sorry if this was in the rules.

For ALL challenges:

Quote
Games Settings: Length = Long • Aging = On • Freewill = High

Hope that helps :)

I was doing some maths myself, and after figuring out how to work out the multiplier, my eyes bugged out at the result. So, I agree with you on this. Reading probably has an effect anyway, and it makes the focus of the challenge equal, more or less.

  • You’re allowed 12 total vacation days. Break it up however you wish — i.e. 12 1-day vacations, 4 3-day vacations, etc.

This is considered traveling abroad, correct?

Correct. The 12 days refer to traveling to the World Adventures' locations.

I was just wondering - does money earned from writing include both the little payments you get when submitting chapters AND the amount of money you earn from royalty checks?

My guess would be you use whatever is displayed in the skill journal for money earned from writing.
