The Eden Family
« on: January 18, 2011, 08:24:41 PM »
When I first came to this site, my friend and fellow member, Simmerqueen, suggested that we both try to do the Immortal Dynasty. I had a read through of the rules and then read the Dreamweaver Immortal Dynasty and decided it was a great idea. I have notched up several lifetime's worth of hours on Sims 3 so sure, I was equal to the task.

I overlooked though, that apart from the very early weeks of playing, most of my playing has been horribly cheaty with mods to lessen the load. I am also used to playing on the super long age span too and it is amazing how fast the sim days fly by when you are taking it easy with your feet up thinking you have all the time in the world.

So, I failed miserably. I have learned valuable lessons that I can apply next time but I don't want to throw my present family away because I rather like them. I hope, then, that you will enjoy my meander through a pretend challenge, missing every goal in sight, and tripping over my feet at every turn.   It is not just trying to play without the mods but I have never actually had a sim age beyond YA before and never had a sim die. I hope I can do it when the time comes. :-\

So, this is my sim girl, Daisy Eden. I decided on flower names for my family.  This will be interesting because I am no gardener and if a flower is not a rose or a daisy, I am pretty much stumped as to what it is.

Daisy got plonked into Riverview, my first big mistake. Despite owning Sims 3 from when it was first released, I have never stepped foot in Riverview therefore I don't know any of the inhabitants or where any of the places are. However, at this stage I was very confident of my abilities to overcome any obstacle.

Although she spent her first night sleeping at the firestation, she soon got her own bed. I thought a good quality bed was worth the investment. Daisy had a job at the Science facility and she had also earned some money in smelting minerals and cutting gems.

Still, life was pretty spartan for Daisy.

Yay!  I'm so glad you're posting about Daisy and your attempt at the Immortal Dynasty.  I too love Daisy's eye color - such a pretty shade.  I have also had an early failed attempt at this (it's bloody hard, but so much fun!) that I will be posting up sooner or later just for chuckles.  Can't wait to read about Daisy's exploits!

I feel your pain! If I had not been prepped with Sims 1 and how demanding the child care in that was I would have drowned very quickly in sims 3. You will get used to it just keep trying. Pause the game to collect your thoughts and keep record of things. That is what I do.

Thank you all. I didn't mention, but I am loving this so much. I was getting quite jaded with Sims 3 - I had done everything and my sims were totally skilled, rich, and had nothing much to do. Starting again this way has given the game a new lease of life for me.

Daisy learned how to fish.

She raided gardens for produce.  Most of the time, she lived on fruit.
.

Not good for furthering her cooking skills but she barely had time to do anything. Looking back, these were the easy times.

I would send her to the library before work so she could study something. She woke early because she was usually in bed by about 6pm. About an hour before the work car arrived, she got to build her fun on the library computer. It worked a charm.

It wasn't long before I started to panic. She was halfway through her YA lifespan and hadn't met anyone yet.  I didn't know any of the men in Riverview. I saw Don Lothario but didn't think he would be a good catch.  Everyone she met seemed to have a significant other. It was also difficult to tell who was who.  I still don't know this guy's name but he seems keen on the vegetables.

My pick would have been her neighbour, Jon Lessen.
.

He's rather gorgeous in a 'suck-your-blood' sort of way but at this stage, I still thought I had a chance at the challenge so vampires were out.

Your Daisy is lovely. She reminds me of Scarlett Johanson.  I hope you'll keep writing your story - your first post shows a lot of flair and promise. I'll be looking forward to updates.

Thank you Fleur. I intend to keep on as long as I can, in between reading some of the wonderful stories on here (and pinching a few ideas).

Daisy was starting to build up some cash. Home comforts were still sadly lacking though.

She was about to give up on men when one of the men she had met before turned up at her door.

Tyron was already in a relationship but he still seemed quite taken with Daisy and didn't mind the odd flirt. He also looked something like 'vegetable guy' (same hair) but he stood out as unique by his footwear. He was wearing flippers.

He seemed to be interested in her and he wasn't that ugly (despite the flippers) and she wanted to get on with the baby-making.

She asked him to stay the night and he agreed. Daisy quickly sold her single bed and bought a larger variety.  This was a strictly platonic visit. They were both too tired to do anything else.

He continued to call her on the phone and call around too. Then one day when he called around, he got a little surprise.

Daisy had a little bun in that oven. Too late for him to back out now.

They got married in double quick time. Not exactly a glamorous event but efficient.

Tyron is a nice little simmie however he was my big mistake number two. He was almost totally broke - I think he brought in about $2,000; he had no skills and a three-hour a day job folding clothes at the spa. Not exactly catch of the day

Tyron looks like a cutie - the flippers would have to go though.   ;D  You sound like me - I'd do something and only afterward realize, "Oops, that might not have been the smartest move".  Well, that's how we learn!  I love your picture of Daisy fishing, and the dark one with the vampire eyes glowing is quite nice too.

Thank you all.

I should have changed the flippers but I just didn't get around to it. No time, no time.  ;D  It seems everything I do in this story causes an 'oops shouldn't have done it that way' feeling deep in my bones.  Next time I do this, I should be such an expert (maybe).

I Agree. I think everyone started out a little rambled and may have thought it was bad when it was actually excellent! I think your doing a great job and remember we are all our own worst critic.

Definitely! The beginning of the Lancasters I felt I was all over the place (it's my first attempt at a Dynasty). But once I actually got into it, I felt more confident that it was better than I originally thought it was.

You guys are the best. Thank you.  :D

It seemed I barely blinked and suddenly Daisy was suffering labour pains.  She dashed to the hospital and, hmm, the gods of the game are playing with me. Twins. Great.

Dahlia was first,

followed closely by Daphne. The happy pair barely had enough money to buy another crib.

Daisy's earnings were quite good by now but Tyron was earning pocket money. I decided to leave him in his job anyway. He could mind the babies once Daisy returned to work. It worked out well. He had to leave in the same car that drove her home.

Tyron could help out in the garden too.

His main focus though, in between diaper changes, the never-ending feeds and social interactions for the babies, was painting.

I wanted Tyron to paint the portraits.  I didn't like his chances of getting there though. I even spent a precious $400 of their meager savings on lessons for him.

I feel embarrassed to admit how difficult I found those babies. My sims have had oodles of children but almost always I have relied on mods to help out. Having to do it on my own was a real challenge. I was so pleased when their birthday rolled around. At least twin toddlers could interact on the toddler table (once they learned to talk).

They grew up rather sweet I thought. Dahlia has her mother's lovely eyes.

And Daphne has golden brown eyes like her dad.

I know I should have fixed those horrible eyebrows but - no time, no time.  ;D

Figwit, your twins are adorable and I have to hand it to you.  I've been having a hard time with one at a time, so you have done well to raise two!   ;D

Thank you both.  The twins were a lot of work but I must admit I have fallen in love with them.   ;D

Apologies for the wonky text/pics in the previous chapters.  I tend to forget that not everyone has the same sized screen.  I have fixed them now and will do better from now on. :D

Now, somehow, I have just managed to lose the work I just did so here we go again.

The twins were a lot of work but they were totally adorable too.

I have to admit, I regretted rushing around organizing other training and then breathing a sigh of relief when they were asleep - a bit like real life babies really :) because, like real life babies, these little ones would grow up fast.

Somehow, I managed to get them trained in all the right things.

It's a pity their dad, Tyron, didn't learn as fast. I anxiously watched their days slip by while he struggled with his painting.

And then, something I have only happen once before in my game.  My sim girl aged to full adult.  Really though.  She has just got those toddlers off to sleep. :o

She looks just as lovely as an adult.  She got new hair to celebrate.

Tyron tells her that she is still the most beautiful woman in his life. Big of him seeing he is a whole lot older than her anyway and is not far off becoming an elder.  Still, they are an affectionate couple and are always throwing up romance wants for each other.

And for a birthday surprise they got some brick veneer added to the outside walls of their humble little cottage.

I knew now that there was no way known I was going to meet any of the requirements for the challenge. Tyron just can't get the hang of painting, they are still as poor as church mice, and time is on a roller coaster.  Still, I decided to keep ploughing on. If I can achieve anything at all in this before everyone dies I will feel I have done something. ;D

Thank you all.

Kattiq, the hair is an Anto 84 conversion. I am not sure if this is the same version I have but I know it is available on My Blue Book blog.
