Throwing my hat on this one.. actually, i started the sim earlier today, first week almost over.

Do you want to give specific rules for traveling?, or do we just use the travel rules from the perfectly happy challenge?.

There are no travel rules for this event as it started before World Adventures was released. Even if you travel one time you're giving yourself an unfair advantage compared to earlier competitors given you return to Sunset Valley with no change in time, but it's your conscience.

I wonder if we should make a standing rule that pre-World Adventures challenges do not allow traveling. Like you said, it could give unfair advantage to the late coming players and we should have the leaderboard stay fair.

Ok, week one is gone, gem inventory by sunday morning is:
5 Large cut and 2 large uncut soulpieces, for a total of 54k. (Also some other random gems).

And metal inventory:
Iron 11, Silver 43, Gold 18, Palladium 12 and Plutonium 5. This all turned into:

Alright, I am now officially in on this one. My sims is Jim Strive, and he's Artistic, Loner, Loves the Outdoors, Neat, and Neurotic. He's going to be making most of his money through gardening and painting, though he's also going to max out fishing and cooking to have the Ambrosia moodlet. He has no career, nor am I at this point planning on getting him one. His Lifetime wish is to have The Perfect Garden.

I got him a lot in Sunset with a beautiful vista moodlet. He sleeps and paints outsides. Right now he is dirt poor, with about $174 simeoleans to his name 3 days into the first week. But he just paid the bills, so I am hoping I can get him coin before it becomes an issue. He wants to buy a guitar for some reason. Poor, poor deluded Jim! Be patient, I know you can afford it soon!

2nd week for my Faith Connors Sim, and I managed to make a large skull cut soulpeace

Just for the looks, the rest are becoming other cuts that look less cool but pump more money.
Gem income, as expected, remained relatively flat compared to the previous week, got 83 metal ingots this time, 23 iron, 41 silver, 5 gold and 14 palladium, no plutoniums. This was converted in a compendium bar worth a grand total of 2,813,830 simoleons.

I just realized what you're doing. And I'm really sorry to do this, but your score using the sale of compendium won't be able to go on the leaderboard because the other players didn't have the display case to make compendium. It gives you an unfair advantage, just like traveling would. This is all new to us, too, and we're having to make rules and adjustments as we go along. If you want, you can start the challenge over and use only things from the vanilla version of Sims 3. Nothing at all from World Adventures, except clothing and hairstyles... things that don't impact money. I hope you understand and, again, I'm sorry for any confusion.

Nah, mostly did it to test how fast the cap could be hit with a solo sim with only compendium (heck, my sim was on an apple/icecream diet). Funny that it beats methods that exploit activity-canceling to speed up/boost income.
At any rate, queueing run (wait for sim to reach), collect, repeat was getting mind-numbing.

Ah, you know I was going to mention something yesterday, but I wasn't exactly sure about that display case. Thanks, Pam. And thank you, TGBlank for a remarkable display of money-making. It would be fun to come up with a collector's challenge at some point.

Hello!

I've been playing the Sims series since before the first expansion to Sims 1! Never done any challenges though, and I thought I'd give it a shot... Hubby says I need practice starting and then actually finishing things instead of just creating 700 thousand million households and fretting over why none of them get anywhere

Baby steps right? So we start with the easy!

I've not read through the entire thread here, I didn't want to get too many spoilers and tips/tricks! I'll read it once I've finished.

Anyway, my Sims' name is Gina Grin, Guitarist. Her lifetime wish is to be a rock star, after I get the points I'll likely quit and rack in the tips!
Workaholic, Over-Emotional, Virtuoso, Artistic, Ambitious.

I've not spent much time in Sims 3 working the Guitar, most of my time is spent Gardening so far, so we'll see how I do! Thanks for making all these challenges available, I may be able to run through a whole bunch of them before too long - I will probably stick to the archived/graveyard ones though, I get all weird about actually competing in things!

Nandiara, welcome to the forums. Have fun in this challenge. It was (is) a good one. Are you aware of the compositions exploit? If not you should take advantage of it to really make some big money as a guitarist. I outline what this is somewhere in the middle of the thread.

I have so far attracted my crowd before playing for tips with a performance of a song, I find it attracts the audience faster. Also, Gina seems to be a morning person (wakes up around 5am) and there's nobody to perform for, so I perform till about 9-10 in the morning (I don't sit and listen to the song every single time... I click it off fairly early into the play and it still counts it so /shrug), play for tips till she goes to work at roughly 7 at night, and head to bed around midnight.

That's the exploit. And it's not mentioned in the wiki article you linked. You do not need to perform an entire composition for it to count towards the skill journal stat. Needless to say, that has some serious ramifications for how many times you can perform when your Sim is not working or playing for tips.

Absolutely, tosho! This challenge is from last year, so it doesn't count toward the new 2010 tournament season, but you can absolutely play it and be put on the leaderboard. Metro will see this next time he logs in and he'll take care of it for you. Good luck!

The old events have a different protocol and are looser than the new Tournament challenges. So, just knock it out, post your results and then I'll update the leader board. Good luck!!

Ok I have started with this challenge and I'm quite enjoying this one in particular since I'm reading a book myself while my writer sim works on producing her own books. She is having a blast and so am I...

Oh yeah I forgot to add during my first 3 days I had a burglar who decided to take my sink and my toilette instead of the nice computer I had. The toilette taken was a bit annoying until I got steelblader which did not take long...

Next Friday, February 26th, I'll be moving the last 3 remaining "old" challenges to the Graveyard — Centurian's Solo Challenge, Baby Boomer, and You're Hired: the Trump Challenge. If you're participating in any of these — don't worry. The threads are just being moved, not deleted. You'll still be able to post your results in the Graveyard and I'll be happy to update the leaderboard if necessary.
