I'm just doing some testing... how do I add the move studio to Sunset Valley? None of the empty lots are big enough

Nancy, try posting in that Sunset Valley 2.0 thread. Naga would definitely know how.

Are you 100% certain that these are all legal in the tournament?  My understanding of adding in buildings was that we could only do it if a lot of the right size was available, and not if it involved knocking down or moving buildings.  Am I wrong in my understanding, Metro?

The General Rules allow placing the studio in Sunset Valley via Edit Town. Can this not be done without knocking down existing buildings, etc?

I don't think it can.  Did you find any way to do it without doing any of these things, Joria?

It is possible. In edit town, change existing residential lot into comunity lot, visitors allowed. Lot has to be at least 40x40 and flat. Or you can place lot that size where you want. I deleted smaller empty lot next to junkyard and placed 40x40. Then, go to build mode and you'll see an icon for comunity buildings, just next to the basement tools. There you'll find Plumbob picture rabbithole (first in a 4.row) and place it on flatten lot. It is not lined up to the road but doesn't look too bad:

If you don't want to delete anything, I easily added 40x40 lot next to Alto's villa. And that 60x60 empty lot is also easy to use:

Thanks, Anushka, for detailing what to do. Yeah, I have 0 problems with this method. I do have problems with knocking down existing structures to place the studio.

Probably being daft and tired but before I go to sleep I need to ask what lifespan the sims will have? Normal, Long, Epic etc. or does it not matter?

Thomas, check the 2011 Tournament sticky and the General Rules. All challenges are set at Long lifespan.

The problem is that the director's studio is 64 by 64 and there are no residential lots that size in SV.

There is a smaller version. If you get a 40x40 lot (you may have to set it to 'no visitors allowed') and then build/buy on the lot you can find the smaller version in 'community buildings'/

Thanks.  I'm having trouble finding it, though.  The only studio I see is called Plumbob Pictures Backlot and is 64 X 64, and then there are a bunch of clubs.  Could you please tell me what it's called?

Edit:  Nevermind, I figured out that the problem was that I wasn't going into build/buy, and trying to place from the edit town map instead (the place where you change the lot type).  I didn't realize that build/buy had different versions of the buildings than the community buildings section in the overhead edit town map.  Thanks for the information, NancyJ and Anushka.

Of course it can.  You may have to add lots but there are several ways to accomplish it.  The main thing is get a lot, at least 40x40 and on flat land, (or close enough to it that you can smooth edges) and make that lot a community lot.  You can even do this with an existing lot.  Click on the lot, and select build/buy on this lot.  It will bring up a little house looking icon as part of the choices you have in build mode, along with trees, pools, etc.  In that icon there are several, smaller versions of the buildings you need.  Althernatively, Pinochle Point is your friend!  I did manage to put all the LN entertainment type buildings there.

So, I take it we are going to need to have these buildings for this challenge?  Lounges and such are not rabbit holes.  Or is it just for the Sims entertainment?  I hope not.  If it wasn't for the elevator, and ONLY the elevator, I would remove LN entirely.  I am so sick of having nasty looking vampires wherever my sims go.  I guess you'd need them for mixologist, huh?

Mixology isn't connected to any rabbit hole, Joria, so you shouldn't need to place any lounges. The Actor's Studio on the other hand is a rabbit hole, which is why you might want to place it into the game. The way I understand the last few posts, that's the only LN lot they're talking about.

Hi - I'm still kind of new to Sims3, noticed all this challenge tourney what-not and thought I'd give it a quiet go. Starship Cresent Wrench and Rabbit Hole especially. (Registration to follow...  ;) )

One question that I don't think has been asked in this thread is are you sure Criminal is a viable career option for the 'list'? A problem I came across while playing on my regular sim is that the Criminal career seems to be a bit bugged. I think it's got something to do with working one shift across two different days. (eg - Start at 11pm, finish at 4 am). Sometimes your sim will be required to be at work but the car pool won't turn up, you won't automatically finish your shift and (iirc) you won't get paid for the shift. Another time I had the car pool turn up on my day off, when I got to work I got the message that I wasn't due to start for another 2 days.

Having said all that I'm not sure if this bug will have any affect on obtaining carrots or not, whether it's just for Bridgeport where I was playing (though the forum suggests otherwise). But it definately will affect cash and timing. I also apologise in advance if bugs such as these are all part of the tourney experience.

Cheers.

Hi Poultron. Welcome to the forum. Yeah, the criminal career can be a little weird at times. I've had it happen to me where you can't go to work even though you should be able to. Does that mean that I should simply tell players the Criminal career is off-limits? No. You can lump the Criminal career into the consignment store and the million other little glitches that the game has.  ;)

I agree with Metro. If he would eliminate all the buggy aspects of the game from the challenges, then there would be nothing left.

Cool - thanks for the quick reply.  Like I said, I'm still pretty new to Sims3 and aren't that familiar with the individual careers so wasn't sure if it'd have any effect on the game. Guess I'd better start checking things out a little more closely.  ;D

Science Career and Ghost Hunter at the Science Center, etc. However, your 2 Sims may not explore rabbit-holes that have already been fully explored (i.e. the Science career cannot be done by both Sims).

I don't see ghost hunter on the list in the rules, but you use it as an example, (I have never played that career) is it a rabbit-hole career?

No, it's not. Thank you. Yeah, that's a bad example then.  ;D I'll edit and throw in a different example.

You will take a bit of a hit on your career performance when you get a particular promotion, but if the metrics are full enough it's very easy to bounce back from.  My Dynasty founder went the Thief branch, and it took her maybe an extra day to max the career than it would have if she hadn't taken that hit.  And if you think about it:  the only people who won't be losing that day will be people who don't do the criminal career.

If the different people go through different branches of the same job and both end up with the same carrot, do they both count?
