Homeless beggar
« on: February 21, 2011, 05:16:42 PM »
I always wished to make a homeless beggar. And today, I did it. But still I want your suggestions on what should I do next. Here is what I did:

I made a sim, Willie Walkston. I gave him all the poor clothes from Late Night. He also has Mooch trait, so that he can beg others for food and money. He doesn't have any house, just a tent and small piece of land. I made him bankrupt from starting, so that he will beg a lot.

I have planned to find an empty place and set up there. Food can be mooched, and fruits can be bought from grocery store. I also think that food can be found by rummaging in garbage bins. I think it will work, but I still feel that I will need to improve my plan.

So can you give me suggestions on what should I do to make a real and professional beggar? :)

I found a challenge on a different website that involved making a beggar. I didn't play it for long because the rules didn't make sense to me.

Anyway, I purchased a lot but never lived there. My sim slept on the chairs at the park and mooched food and money from there. He also picked fruit from the park.

Sleeping on the chairs may take a long time, because you can only nap, which gives you some energy. By the way, are there any harvestable trees in Sunset Valley? In Twinbrook, I used to steal my neighbor's harvested fruits everytime she planted.

I once played a game like this - I think I got the idea from the Proposed Challenges thread.  My sim had a tent from Buydebug and I didn't allow him to earn money or buy anything else until he achieved his LTW.  There are harvestable trees in SV's Central Park as well as other plants that can be harvested elsewhere.  At first he lived on picnics and apples.  As soon as he had enough happiness points, I got him the LTR that allowed him to eat for free at the diner or bistro.  It was fun.  Once he achieved his LTW I allowed him to start earning money and eventually he wound up owning most of the town.

Make sure you give him the Loser trait, just to make his life more miserable and not let him die of unnatural causes. Mooch is also a need. Unlucky and slob are optional.

I think you should do like Schipperke said and not give him anything until he fulfills his LTW, but also don't  give him any LTRs until so either. The idea of giving him a tent is basically a way to let him sleep in the park, so that you don't have to make him sleep in a bench. Also, give him a beard. Beards are a need for any homeless beggars. When he get's his life back on it's feet, you can shave him and go like "wow, you look so much better without that beard".

...

I wanna make a beggar.

Haha, Naga! You sound like you know a lot of beggars. Maybe you may know a few of- ... anyway, there was a story about a beggar and his daughter somewhere on this site or beyond. Pam loved it. I will summon her here to see if she can tell us the title of the story.

There are harvestable plants in Sunset Valley at:
- Central Park
- Outstanding Citizens Warehouse Corp
- Science Facility
- Summer Hills Springs
- Stoney Falls
- The beach behind the Wolff househould (I forget what it's called)
- Langerak Household

There's also another house that has harvestable flame fruit and watermelon, I think. But I can't recall which household. It's near the Langerak Household though.

I may have forgotten some because I'm quite sick, and my heads a mess, but these are the ones I remember!

Thomas, you beat me to it - lol!  Alice and Kevin is an excellent story.  You can also download the charactors to play them yourself here or just let them roam in your town.

When I did my homeless character it was before Ambitions so he needed the tent, but if you have Ambitions you could just have your sim sleep at the fire station and not own anything at all.

You can also use the gym for food and showers.  No place to sleep, though, except lounge chairs for naps.

Alice and Kev is an excellent story. I'll read it later though.

As for hygiene, I made my sim a smelly idiot, so that everyone will go badly with him. His lifetime wish is Swimming In Cash.

I have made a quick plan. From what type of beggars I saw in GTA IV, I'll make sims according to that. They will warm themselves by fire pits etc. Also they will beg anyone for food. And I'll make many beggars.

Please give more suggestions. :)

For some weird reason, I like this idea.  I think Priyansh should suggest this as a challenge.  :P

But I definitely think he shouldn't spend any of his lifetime happiness points until he achieves his wish...although "Swimming in Cash" might be a little overly ambitious.

I would suggest Kleptomaniac as a trait, but you might be too tempted to swipe cars lol.

The idea is to make a beggar, not a stealer. The guy should be too much of a coward to actually rob a car or anything. Besides, he shouldn't have anywhere to place the stuff he klepto-finds.

One thing is realistic: Beggars don't get whatever they ask for every time. Most of you may have seen that sometimes they are refused to be given anything, sometimes they are even scolded by someone who is harsh enough.

So what I did is to make a nice relationship drop with most of the people. Now is begging called hard!

Well, if keeping him stinky wasn't enough to push people away, you could just make him a mummy or something. Lol, beggar mummy.

I wonder if you also like building?  Perhaps you could build a homeless hostel?

I don't know if you have seen the film 'The Pursuit of Happyness' (spelt with a y not with an i as it normally is) starring Will Smith.  He made use of a homeless hostel.  The problem was that he couldn't guarantee a place in it every night - likewise, maybe your beggar sim could only sometimes sleep there?  I'm not really sure how you'd build this into your gameplay though.

(I'm not really a computer whiz - it's just that, rather nerdishly, I like using them.)

I experimented with Edit Town, and made a public apartment where everyone is able to stay for as much time as he/she wishes. But that was weird so I made everything as it was.

The problem for sleeping can be solved by taking 4-5 naps until the energy bar is full. And to cover up time, I make my sim mooch and beg. I also bought him a mixology book with all the hard earned money, so that he can work at the local bar.

Well, as for enmity, my beggar sim had been beaten up many times, and he, in return beats and slaps all those who don't give him money. Latest victim: Nick Alto! 8)

Wow, you sure don't like the easy go now don't you? :P I like it though, it's like playing The Sims 3 at Ultra Hard mode.

Interesting idea. It's like the opposite of my Luxury Hotel which provides sims with the most exclusive moodlets that are out there, for free.
