good news: i am back in business. first of all thanks to everyone who contributed suggestions to my problem. unfortunately, getting rid of all death flowers, produce and fish did not help either, but i did find a backup of a savefile that was just a couple of sim days back and did not have the pond problem. i had to replay those few sim days four or five times before i managed to get past that time in sim-land with the ponds still working, but i tried to recreate what i did first time around as closely as possible, so i hope that is ok.

You need to find a permanent solution to this problem because I am not comfortable with you playing from backup files. Every time you do so you're essentially practicing and making fewer mistakes. Again, I know this isn't your fault. But, playing from backup files is not the solution.

EDIT: ik, you never did reply to my question on the previous page: are you playing under the latest EA patch?

yes, i am playing with the latest patch, and i have taken care to not do anything differently when i have to replay anything but recreate whatever i did when i played that time first time through. i know i did miss out on a couple of high-point wishes when i had to replay the initial few days when the bug first appeared, because those wishes turned up when i first played, but not when i re-played, but i did not conciously do anything different that did give me any advantage over the initial game. i prefer to play in a way that i don't cheat myself, so i see no reason to cheat anybody else either ;) .

Hey Metro, I'm just confirming that you understand that I have started now? I think I might have mentioned that I had started and I checked the leaderboard, but I wasn't there. I'm doing this because of what you have said in the Nectar making challenge about how we need to say that we will do it before just coming up with one post saying that we've completed it. Thanks!

Ready to start now. I've had a day or so just playing around getting used to not having mods in.. surprisingly, it was easier than I thought - there was a moment of grief when I found that something I took for granted wasn't there and I had to manually tell my sim what to do, but apart from that....
So now I'm off to start a new game with a shiny new sim. I think I'll call him Marcus Nova.

I know what you mean about the challenge-crazy part. It must be tough managing all this stuff with the tourney!

Well, tough in a good way if that makes sense. If no one was signing up for the forum events then I wouldn't be doing a good job.

Okay, just a little update on my progress. After 3 sim days, I have nearly 15,000 Lifetime Happiness Points, but no Perfects yet. At this pace, I should get 375,000 Lifetime Happiness Points.

After nearly playing through day 6 (Friday, Week 1) I have 20,000 Lifetime Happiness Points and 2 perfect fish.

I have pretty much finished up week 3 and have around 70,000LTH and 84,000perfection points...Petunia Perfectionist has been a very busy girl, though I got mad at her in China...she just COULD NOT get a perfect Toncho Koi.

Ha!  Yeah, I had a hard time with that one, too.  And one in Egypt.  Got them just before the vacation was over.  :D

Ok, first day off from work and I'm started!  I don't mind sharing my strategy because I know I'm not the best.  I won't be getting all the perfect plants from WA.  Maybe not all the fish too, though I am hoping that I can take a good stab at the recipes.  We'll see how that goes.

Jonathan Best lives in Riverview and has the Neat, Loves the Outdoors, Loner, Angler, and Neurotic traits.  I'm planning on buying the Super Green Thumb lifetime reward.  I'm hoping that if he has a cooking skill of 10, and is working with perfect stuff he's grown and caught, then he'll have no trouble making perfect dishes.  The neat and neurotic traits should combine to give penty of opportunies for quick lifetime points, I'm hoping.  And he should be getting good moodlets frequently for the Loner and Loves the Outdoors ones.  Moving into my house now!

Oh, my gosh. I was just taken to school. Of course. Clean house/make bed/do dishes and Freak Out. Easy happiness points. Day in and day out. Great strategy. Well done, Tealeaf.

Thanks!  It seems to be working well.  Right now game time I'm at Day 1, week 2, at 1:30am and already have 16,650 LT points.  He's gotten 4 points into cooking and gardening, and 5 for fishing.  Now, I think I'll get him a job in the culinary arts so that he can get that awesome fridge for his very own.

I'm gonna sound like I'm just hopping on the good idea wagon, but I've been doing that since day one, pretty much. I can't believe you didn't realize that!

Ohhhhh...  is that maybe the secret trait that someone used to get humongous happiness points?  Hmmmm...

Uh, no it's not. Sorry, lol. If you mean the one that meamalso was talking about. He and I have discussed it (I PM'ed him with my guess and he said it was right), although personally I don't think it's all that great. I bet the neat or neurotic trait would be better than the one I correctly guessed, but oh well if you look up a bit on Page 13 of this thread, you can see my progress and I think I'm well on my way to success!

And the translation for many players that would have been told that last sentence is — "You're stupid." I know you didn't say that, but the bottom line is, you chose to throw that sentence in there. You didn't need to, but you did. I don't want that tone on the forum. Hey, I've got a thick skin. But, not everyone does, and feelings can be hurt. Please don't use that tone with me or with anyone else. We're all friends and we need to be comfortable with each other and not fearful of being ridiculed by not knowing something.

I thought you might react that way. I gotta say, I love you guys. You're all awesome. But you're also crazy sensitive. I hate that I constantly have to watch what I have to say on these forums. I'm insanely nervous whenever I'm making a post because I'm absolutely against confrontation on friendly forums. I edit and re-edit. I don't know what more you want me to do.

So I wasn't ridiculing you. Your knowledge surpasses mine exponentially. I was expressing my surprise in the same way that a student might express surprise that his history teacher didn't know some obscure minutiae of the lifestyle of Genghis Khan.

`Well as everyone else is giving updates...
Marcus moved into Sunset Valley 2 and a half weeks ago. He hasn't really made any friends, but he's fine with that. So far he has 40,000 perfection points and 35,458 LT points. I think he is quite happy with his lot in life!

If we're "crazy sensitive" it's only because we're trying to design and mold a forum that meets high criteria for the quality of the forum and our members.  Lots of new people come every day that we've never talked to.  We want to make sure that everything is respectful.  Misunderstandings sometime occur, but we still have to make the effort to keep the forum in it's absolute best form.

That being said, e^(pi*i), don't worry so much about it that you get stressed.  If you have typos, I'll fix them.  No worries.  If you need to take some time to compose your best message, there's nothing wrong with that.  And if you were to ever step over the line, we would be gentle as we whip you with a wet noodle.  ;D

Okay, I had to laugh at this because my geometry teacher says the same thing if she's talking about how she feels when she's grading papers of some people ;D

metropolis man, i just noticed that you did not put me up on the scoreboard either. i am well into week 12 by now and doing better than i expected, so i would certainly like to enter my score if that is ok with you. i have not had any more hickups (except for the fact that i can not feed my omni plants, but i am doing very well without them) and have caught all my perfect fish, so i am confident i will finish without any more problems. in total i have replayed maybe four or five days due to the bug and have taken care to recreate them as closely as possible and can assure you that i have not gotten any extra perfects or lth points from replaying.

one final question though: is there any rule against eating ambrosia?

Nope. You might as well enjoy the moodlet since you'll need to have the resources to make it anyway. Personally, my character only took the time to make it once a week since that's how long the moodlet lasts. But, WOW. What a moodlet!
