It can also be used to avoid time consuming birthdays! Not too much of an issue with this one but really helps with the max skills challenge if you can avoid all that whooping and hollering when you're supposed to be fishing!

metropolis man, i just noticed that you did not put me up on the scoreboard either. i am well into week 12 by now and doing better than i expected, so i would certainly like to enter my score if that is ok with you.

I apologize and will get you in right away.
no need to apologize ;D . i should have checked earlier.

one final question though: is there any rule against eating ambrosia?

Nope. You might as well enjoy the moodlet since you'll need to have the resources to make it anyway. Personally, my character only took the time to make it once a week since that's how long the moodlet lasts. But, WOW. What a moodlet!
oh, i did not think of the moodlet, or rather, i did not even know it existed, since i had never used ambrosia before. it does not make much of a difference, since my sim has maxed her mood meter most of the time anyway, but it sure is nice to have (although i got a shorter one of the same strength several times from her perfect cooking). i was just not looking forward to having her be an elder for the remaining weeks ;) .

* edited to fix quote, sorry i missed that earlier *

I got the moodlet once from eating mystery meat at the bistro. I was busking and got hungry so I sent her in for a snack and I got the message 'your food finally arrives but it isn't what you ordered, do you eat it or send it back?' I ate it and got the ambrosia buff (but no change to life). Was quite a nice surprise.

Totally a nice surprise. That's a nice little touch of randomness the developers threw in there. And there's obviously the off-chance you might get nauseous as well.  :D

Well I am SUCH a NOOB!  I too will fail getting all the grapes from France, I got my modes of "transport" confused... maybe I can make up the point difference in LTH...

At least I have learned something from my errors...and I am only playing for fun.

Just thought I would update :-)
My sim, Phillippe LaFerve, is doing pretty well. He is a level 10 chef, and has done his 3 visits overseas (but wanted to come home each time, which gave me a nice 1000 LTHP bonus!)
He has every recipe down except for autumn salad! I cannot for the life of me get it perfect!
so far his perfection points are 236000, and we are in week 7. lots more fish to catch...!

Well I'm done!

My Sim was named Bliss Excelsia, and she had a fairly successful run.

I did wait too long to go overseas, so I actually didn't leave myself time to grow perfect
generations of the longer-growing French produce, but I made up for it in LTHP!

    36 Perfect Recipes
  +21 Perfect Produce
  +31 Perfect Fish
    88 Perfect Accomplisments
   x 4k/Perfect
   352,000 Perfection Points
 +499,245 LTHP
  851,245 Points

The funny thing is that not having enough time to grow the rare grapes or pomelos/cherries to perfection wasn't her only blunder on the France trip - she got stuck on that island!  Luckily I made the right decision and went fishing as soon as I noticed she was tired.  I caught at least one perfect specimen of frog, snail, and crawfish in about an hour and spent the remaining available two hours catching more frogs for making frog legs.
The killer: I hadn't bought the French food recipes yet!  I wound up getting them through sharing kitchen secrets with people in Egypt.

Well I am SUCH a NOOB!  I too will fail getting all the grapes from France, I got my modes of "transport" confused... maybe I can make up the point difference in LTH...

At least I have learned something from my errors...and I am only playing for fun.

I'm not even going to try to get the hardest to find grapes.  Just not going to worry my pretty little head about it.  I don't really care how I stack up against anyone else, I'm just taking a stab at seeing how well I can do with the ruleset.

Anyways, here's my update.  Jonathan is now at week 4, day 6.  His cooking is maxed out, and he just earned 8 in the culinary career.  He is nine in gardening and fishing.  He's grown 3 different types of perfect plants so far.  Yesterday when I played I either had bad luck or a bug that keep him from finding any special seeds, though he did manage to fish up a money tree seed.  But today when I started the game I found 3 for him to go collect in the graveyard, so I'm pretty happy about that.  No perfect recipes yet, but I just got the most expensive stove just before I called it a night.  LTH points are at 84673, and he has yet to acheive his lifetime wish.  No trips taken yet.

So far, so good!

I'd like to remind everyone to be cautious in discussing the specifics of your gameplay in the challenge thread.  I don't think it's fair for the first players of the challenge to reveal their gameplay moves and strategies so that later players get an advantage.  We have lots of other threads that discuss these things and the guide is available for everyone, as well.  But strategy is an individual issue.  I've already seen at least a couple of specifics on this thread that I didn't realize and didn't use.  I'm just saying...  y'all are tipping your hands here.  ;)

i am quickly approaching week 15 (14 weeks 5 days just now :D ), and now have another stupid question: what time on week 15 day 2 does the challenge end? just after midnight at the beginning of the day, or just before midnight at the end of the day? or whenever i like? ;)

Basically whenever you like as long as the clock says Week 15, Day 2. So, the latest you would stop the game is 11:59PM on that day.

And just to echo Pam's sentiments on strategy, yes, DO NOT reveal specific strategies. That is taboo. You're only hurting yourself and other players by doing so. In other words, you don't say — "I found the easiest way to get perfect recipes was doing X." Or, "Getting the rare grapes in France is a snap. All I did was Y."

EDIT: Pam, I think I see which player you may have been referring to with your request. It was my bad for not catching and editing the sentences out yesterday. I took care of it.

Sorry if it seemed I was giving too much away.  In my defense, though, really all I did was say what traits I was giving, something that had been discussed by other players as well (I think it was around page three or so that I read about the idea of getting the Loner and Loves the Outdoors traits).  One reason specifically I wanted to do this is so that if I ended up with suspictously high LTH points, well, I can honestly point to say that I said how I got them beforehand.

Anyways, Jonathon is doing well.  I've quit out of the game, but I think I am on week seven or so.   He's gotten to 10 of the culinary career, and quit out just before his young adulthood was over.  Now he supports himself just with gardening and fishing.   He's cooking a few perfect recipes now, and has several perfect plants as well.  He just came back from China, and was lucky enough to get all the variety of perfect fish available there, plus of course the recipes and plants.  The future is looking bright!

It wasn't you. No one needs to worry about this and apologize. Pam and I were just giving everyone a heads up and watching what's said in individual event threads.

Horkslair, I basically couldn't agree with you more. This whole forum and Carl's Guide is all about the readily available truckload of information. The more the better. But, the challenge threads are set up for some serious competition. It's a different environment. You can see the logic in me not spelling out the exact recipes I'm going to use right in the nectar thread, can't you? What's better — one or both Sims going to France? What's the best use of time while your Sim(s) are in France? You expect me to give a nice bulleted list of all of that? No, that's not happening. But, in other threads I am totally willing to share my tips and tricks. I just gave an Inventory tip in another thread today that would benefit anyone in the nectar event.

------

EDIT: I thought about this a little more and here's an example. I know it's probably a stupid one, but it's all I could come up with. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are playing in a tournament in the same grouping. Are either one of them gong to be seeking each other's advice during the actual round? Of course not. But, outside of the event I bet both of them would be totally willing to share tips, etc if one of them asked.

Phil: "Tiger, I noticed your putting grip is different. Can I see it?"
Tiger: "Sure. The thumb goes farther down...right, like that."
Phil: "I like that. Hey, so what have you been up to lately?"

This is exactly and precisely what I am referring to...  You have one of the greatest storehouses of information I have seen on any SIMS 3 forums.  Yet because of a challenge/contest you are going to withhold information from I believe 16-18 people specifically...

Just in the challenge thread. Why is this so confusing to you? Pam and I have specifically laid out that this is our preferred protocol. There's Carl's Nectar Guide. There's my Zeus and Hera walkthrough. There's lots of info at everyone's fingertips. If I blathered on about everything I was going to do in the nectar challenge right in the thread, I'd just be telling you stuff that's already been said. I really don't want to discuss this issue anymore.

FINALLY done! I have never done a 100-day challenge before, but I enjoyed it even though the last couple of weeks i couldn't wait for it to finish!
Silly me forgot some particular plants, so I missed out there, but my final score was:
332000 perfect points + 247774 LTHP points = 579774.
Not a great score, but a score none the less! I found it hard trying to get LTHPs towards the end, for some reason no wishes were coming up even though I tried all sorts of ways to 'activate' them  :(
Ah well, thanks Metro, look forward to the vino challenge in a couple of days  :)

Nice job finishing up, kat. Yeah, those wishes just dry up like a wilted flower after a while don't they? That's big problem? Skilling is always a good thing to keep going because you'll always get the "go up one level" "Hit level X" and the biggie, of course, the maxing wish.

Yeah I tried that - wasn't sure if I should say - but for some reason apart from the odd one or two ,they just weren't flooding in like they normally do. ah well bad luck :-)

I am done! I used a different approach trait-wise than the suggestions made in this thread (which I am, of course, willing to share with the moderators via pm if you have any questions ;) ), and it worked well beyond my wildest dreams. I did manage to bring in all perfects well within time except for the hot dogs, which I finally perfected on the evening of week 15 day 1, so that makes a "perfect perfect score" of 384000 plus my lifetime happiness final score of 482332 for a total of 866332 points.

Thank you for putting up this challenge. It was a lot of fun and I learned many new things about the game!

Great job, ik! I'll update the leaderboard.

Once the event closes it would be nice if you shared your technique with the entire forum. Write up a little article and then maybe stick it in the Miscellaneous section.

EDIT: Pam, I can't sem to remove the ending [/list] from the leaderboard. It doesn't belong there and somehow got placed when I was changing things up this morning. Can you help remove it?

Interim update: Delia HartleyFarrar has reached the end of week three.  She has 78562 LTH points, perfected 5 plants, caught 26 perfect fish species and had 2 very successful trips abroad.  I make her total to date 202,562.

I've named her after Delia Smith (famous UK chef), JRR Hartley (author of a fly fishing book in a TV advert.) and Reginald Farrer (a Yorkshire botanist with 9 plants named after him) :)

I only recently stumbled upon this site, and this is already my second challenge.
My question is how do I check how many perfect recipes my sim has made?  In the journal is states the expected quality of meals, and there are two meals listed that I know my sim made Perfect, but are listed as only Great.
Do I need to keep my own list for this so I can keep track of them?

Thanks  :)

Some are dull, some have weird names,
And all are different colors....but

Hi Kaibilly. I'm assuming you're officially throwing your hat in the ring because you're not on the leaderboard. I will add you. Yeah, just write out a list of everything — plants, fish, and recipes. That's at least what I did. And then when you get to the Perfect level, then scratch it off.
