October-November 2010 Building Contest
« on: October 01, 2010, 03:31:54 PM »

What a pleasure to meet you, I hope that you may be able to help me and my current problem. My name is Alexander Champ, you may have heard of me but I try to keep quiet, being extremely rich does have it's consequences; I am worried about my cars you see. I have recently got engaged to this Stunning woman called Sophia Heather. We have planned our wedding soon and it is going to be a huge occasion, I would like it to be at our house, but the current house is far too small for this and I also have some extra details I would like in this mansion. I need a good sized kitchen for the Chef and the waiters, I need two if not more reception rooms. A big garage for my car collection, I have the most expensive car available! I am so proud... anyway back to the mansion. I would like several bedrooms, a main bedroom and some kids bedrooms for my heirs, a maximum of Three kids rooms, I will also need a Guest room. A Pool is a must, with a bar! Everything must look very modern, a garden that is low maintenance would be nice as well, somewhere to lounge around! The rest is up to you, oh and my favourite colour is Spice Berry, Sophia's is red. I am also known to do the odd art exhibition so I will need a room for that maybe, possibly an artist Studio, Sophia is in the Music industry as well.

Budget is 200,000.

This month's building contest is brought to you by Samoht.  If you have an idea for a future building contest, please send me a PM.

Job Requirements:

Build Alexander and Sophia a mansion worthy of their car collection and their lavish wedding.  The house must include a gourmet kitchen, 2 reception rooms, a large garage, 5 bedrooms, and a pool with a bar.  They prefer a modern look, and a low maintenance garden.  Their budget is $200,000.

Procedure:

Once you have completed their home please upload it to the Sims 3 Exchange.  For instructions on how to upload to the Sims 3 Exchange, click here.  In the Lot Description on the Exchange you must mention that it is an entry for a building contest on Carl & Pam's Sims 3 Forum.  Then return here to submit your entry.  You may include up to 5 single images of your house.  Please use the photobucket instructions for uploading images rather than the in-house image uploader.  We'll be able to see the full size image with Photobucket (or another hosting service) where as the in-house service only provides thumbnails that have to be clicked.  In addition, you must include the following information:

1. Name of your house
2. Link to your house on the Exchange
3. Lot size
4. Items used from The Sims 3 Store
5. Description of the house

Rules:

1. Players must go into Edit Town and build on a vacant lot, making sure the final value of the lot does not exceed the requirements of the contest before you exit Edit Town mode.  If you see what appears to be a decrease in value at any point, it isn't.  We've discovered that sometimes in build/buy mode you can be over-charged for rearranging certain items.  So if you get back into Edit Town mode and see that your house is less expensive than you thought you are more than welcome to go back into it and add more features.
2. No discussion is allowed on the submission thread until voting is complete.  Any posts for anything other than submission of a house to be judged will be deleted.
3. The use of mods or third party custom content is strictly prohibited.
4. Expansion Pack items & free items from The Store are allowed.  Please make note of any such items on the entry form.
5. The "moveobjects on" cheat is allowed, but no others.

Judging:

Contestants will have until November 30st, 2010 at midnight local time to submit entries.  At that point a poll will be posted and everyone will have the opportunity to vote on which 3 houses they think are best.  Voting will be locked on December 10th, 2010, after which the winner will be determined.  Homes that do not meet the basic requirements outlined under Job Requirements will be automatically disqualified.

Downloading and rating other contestants' work on The Sims 3 Exchange isn't mandatory, but it is encouraged.

I'd like to add my house for the contest.

I think the windows are from the Fair Folk Furnishing.  No custom content.  I moved a sim in give it a test run.  There are four parking spots in the garage and two in front of the house.

The living room with a fireplace has lots of seating for more quiet affairs.

This is a picture of the solarium which leads to the pool.  A nice place for a pool party.  The second floor has master bedroom, nursery and child's room.  Top floor has teenager room, guest room and play room for teen parties.

Each floor has windows that look down into the solarium.  Oops!  Top floor only has windows. I forgot I had to modify because I was running out of money

I know thumbnails are a nuance, but I could not make photobucket work.  It would not upload my screenshots.

Dear Sir and Miss,  We here at Elite Realty wish to present our newest acquisition for your delectation.  It is an unusually large and well appointed estate.  The builders ensured a good view and enough room by contacting the zoning committee of the City Council and the Neighborhood Association and getting permission to enlarge Summerhill Court.   We received our permit to expand the lot at 15 Summerhill Court to it's present dimension of 64X64, just barely large enough to contain this magnificent dwelling.

Here are some snap shots of the house.  I will attempt to explain as we go on.

First, an overhead view of the mansion itself, (first floor), the pool and the wonderful, 9 car garage.  I am sure your mechanic will find it more than adequate when he sets up his tools and work stations.  The curving drive gives full and easy access to each bay and yet leaves room to display the fabulous collection of automobiles which I'm sure you're very proud of.  There is ample room in the drive for parking guests vehicles.

Centrally you will find a large swimming pool with a juice bar.  Lounge chairs would do well here or perhaps a nice reception?  It certainly is big enough to accommodate quite a massive party.

As you enter the large foyer, to the left we find a lounge with a television.  A good place for the family to gather to learn some new skills or socialize.  There is also a quiet nook with comfortable seating and a well equipped book case.  The stairs for the second floor are found here as well.

Straight ahead is one of the exits to the pool and drive.

To the right of the entryway we find a long hallway with rooms off it to the right.  There is also a small office to the left.  The first room to the right is a spacious dining hall.  Easy access from the double, gourmet kitchen was a must.  The kitchen is fully equipped and can easily handle a large crew of chefs and kitchen help.  There is even room for additional work space, a kitchen "office", or perhaps wine racks or tables for the help to eat at.  There is an exit to the patio area for ease of serving outdoor parties and barbecues.  A screen hides the trash bin.

Further down the hall, and also accessible from the kitchen, is our banquet room.  The first of two reception rooms.  As you can see, it is partially set up to hold the diners who will attend your wedding and reception.  The second reception room is the Grand Ballroom.  There are comfortable seats for those not dancing, a juice bar and some tables to relax at between dances.  All it needs are the musicians!  Those wishing to take a break and cool off can walk the grounds, exiting from the ball room or reception room,  rest and cool off at the fountain, and perhaps play a game of Gnubb on the Gnubb field.  (dark green area of astro turf for low maintenance)

Hopefully this closer view will help you see how well appointed the home is in shades of red and spice, giving a warm ambiennce to all areas.

The second floor.

At the top of the stairs is a room surrounded by many windows.  It just begs you to paint, sculpt, play music, or just enjoy the magnificent view.  This is an excellent area for musicals, or for a quiet time at the easel.  A rest room is conveniently located near by .

To the right we find what I like to consider a second floor foyer.  There are exits to two decks, a large bathroom, and a private bathroom which adjoins the guest room, the first room to the right down the hall way.  There are two rooms for future children to the left, which share a private bath, and a nursery to the right just past the guest room.  At the end of the hallway is a very large master suite with his and hers baths and an entrance to the roof top, very large deck.  What a perfect place to relax, watch the stars, paint or just enjoy the view and each other.

Presenting:  Summertree.

We here at Elite Realty hope you will take a few moments of time and consider this lovely residence for yourself and your lovely bride to be.  It is modestly priced at $199,998.

Thank you for considering Elite Realty.

Yours truly,
Joria Player

Due to the number of entries this month I've decided to extend the deadline for submissions to November 31st.  So if you were thinking of building something, go for it!  You now have an extra month.  :)

Dear Mr Champ and Miss Heather

We here at Yellow Lily Realty have spend the past 7 weeks meticulously checking every upscale realty magazine and neighbourhood for the right home for you and your car collection. We found the home 4 weeks ago but have waited until now to contact you because the elderly owners were steadfast in their refusal to sell. Two weeks ago we received notice that they had both passed away in a pedestrian/car accident while crossing the street between the grocery store and the library. Anyway, no need to bore you with the morbid details, the great news is your house is available! The designers and builders have spent the past week renovating and updating the decor so the house is perfectly suited to your needs.

This home is done in gorgeous autumn colours and textures, inside and out.

In the picture, you can see the garage has been extended towards the back of the property to provide ample room for your collector cars with large windows facing the pool providing ogle-but-can't-touch security during every party. The driveway has plenty of room for parking friends' cars when they visit. The front and back yards are landscaped with genetically-engineered hedges that require no pruning or fertilizing, guaranteed. There is a small eat-out patio on the right which has entrances to the kitchen and formal dining.

Around the back of the house you will find a one-of-a-kind pool designed just for you with plenty of lounge space. The small cottage in the back right used to be the caretaker's home but has been renovated into poolside change rooms.

As you enter this beautiful home through the double doors you'll find yourself in the grand foyer that leads to the pool on the left through a sunroom complete with juice bar, the 2-story media room straight ahead, and the rest of the main floor to the right, around the stairs. The guest ensuite can be found off the sunroom and comes equip with everything for a comfortable stay for any guest. Next to the media room, connected through an archway, is the dance hall complete with seating and the second juice bar. The sunroom, media room, and dance hall all have a great view of and access to the outdoor pool. Stepping through another archway leads you from the dance hall into the formal dining room complete with buffet table. Each room also has a separate entrance from the hall.

The gourmet kitchen is located in the corner of the house and is large enough for multiple staff to work comfortably. It can only be accessed through the formal dining room or the private family dining room (to the left,) and has access to the small outdoor eating area. The buffet table in the formal dining hall is located close to the kitchen doors for minimal interaction between kitchen staff and your guests.

Following the stairs up to the second story, you will find 4 more bedrooms - two with ensuite baths, and a bathroom behind the doors. There is also a lovely library corner but let me save that for last. Either of the two ensuites could be the master bedroom, although the one off the library is more private and has a larger bathroom. There are two rooms set-up as twin bedrooms for children but either could easily be redecorated as a studio, the one even has access to a small private balcony.

And now the library, other than the garage and pool, possibly the best feature of this house. Located in the corner over the sunroom this space has plenty of natural lighting and a fabulous view of the pool, and the ocean out past the yard.

Darn it!  Sorry all, I deleted all those pictures from Photobucket again!  I'll try to repost them with thumbnails.  Don't have more space on photobucket.

Sorry for the mess up.  I needed space in photo bucket for my legacy and was madly deleting things.  I did not intend to delete the contest fotos and didn't realize they weren't in a separate folder.  Anyway, here are some shots, freshly taken.  I did add an item from Late Night, the keyboard.

Just thought I'd bump the thread to remind folks that there is only 3 days left to submit a house to the building contest.  This will be the last contest of the year, and we're going to be doing things differently in January.  :)
