I worked out what I feel will be the final method to compute a player's World Ranking with Carl and his friend Nathan yesterday. I've laid it all out in the first post using my own stats from the first 2 challenges as an example.

I think it's a very good way to score the challenges.

I just did the math for myself and I would have a score of .476 and I finished 5 spots later than you in the first challenge and 1 in the second.

So what I wanted to say is that I think it's a very fair and good made way to see who wins the tournament.

Thanks, Lena. Imme (ik) certainly painted a nice big bullseye on herself with her phenomenal first 2 performances! :) It will really be interesting to see how everything shakes down at the end of the year. And there's so much yet to do—with Ambitions coming out soon that's going to add a whole new dimension to the Tournament. I absolutely can't wait!!!

EDIT: Heh, I looked at where we stand in the Upgrade challenge, Lena, and you got me there. So, I wouldn't be surprised when that's over and the World Ranking is published that we're right next to each other in the standings after 3 events.  :D

Do I understand correctly that if one player plays 10 challenges with a 75% win/loss ratio, and another player plays all a 13 challenges with exactly the same win/loss ratio of 75%, then they will have the same ranking score?

The participation component has a 10-event cap, so the most anyone can attain is 100% from 10 events. I absolutely do not want to force anyone to do all 13 events. But, choosing to participate in all 13 events can still help your wins stat which is the biggest portion of the world ranking.

-------

EDIT: I thought about this a little more and what may actually be the best thing to do for the wins component is to make it the wins someone achieves in the best 10 events. That way it would also carry over with the 10-event cap of participation. There would still be an incentive to participate in all 13 events, but if someone did that, then they could drop their worse 3 performances. It could really tighten standings at the end of the year if players could drop their worse efforts. I'll talk to Carl and Nathan more about this when the time comes.

Heh. Yeah, I'm with you on that one, Nancy.  :D Can't remember if I congratulated you on BB II, so if I did not—great job. I don't think that's the first time you and I have been next to each on the board, so the rankings over the first 3 events will be fun to see.

EDIT: Oops. I guess it is the first time you and I have been right next to each other. :) Oh, well. Can't wait for Political Traiter to start. Sometimes I feel like shortening up the time between challenges to 2 weeks, but inevitably there would be plenty of players that simply would not be able to finish them all.

 ;D

That's your Good Sense of Humor shining through.  :) Hey, the good thing about being ranked low is it doesn't take very much to make some nice jumps later. Sure, you inevitably have to beat more players, but from my own experience with other game rankings I've done—it's much more difficult to improve a top ranking than it is to improve a low ranking.

Well I've decided to actually take advantage of doing some tests before I actually get started this time for the political traiter challenge.  So hopefully I'll do a bit better, but no promises! lol

For someone who's been winging it and looking after 2 small children at the same time, I seem to be doing pretty good. Go me.  ;D

Sorry for my naiive-ness on all of this challenge and legacy stuff... but could someone just briefly explain to me what a legacy house or legacy sim is/means? Also, is there a challenge currently going on?

I tried looking around the forums to clue me in but I can no longer hide my confusion hehe XD.

Hi StefanieB!

Your legacy question is off topic for this thread, but there's one already in place that will help you.

We currently have a couple of active challenges going on.  Check the Tournament Schedule to find the ones that are active, then go to their individual threads for details and to sign up.

Woo!  I thought I'd be a bit further down the list after my middle-of-the pack finishes in the Nectar and Upgrade challenges.  It just goes to show that if you find a challenge that you can excel in, that will really boost your overall rank!

The official World Ranking has been updated with the Career Couples' Challenge now in the books. Several new players have been added to the ranking since they finished their 3rd event.

Hmmm, I am not even in the nice category, LOL......I must need to step up the pace if I am even going to get on the list at all.  I have done 4 tourneys so far and not even on the list, that is pretty bad. Oh well, maybe will be able to get up there soon. It is all for fun anyway.  You learn alot from tournaments.

Salty, you have participated in 1 event. And by "participate" I mean finish. Up to and including the Career Couples' Challenge, you're on one leaderboard. A player has to finish 3 events to be included in the World Ranking.

Even though I will probably be at the bottom, why am I not on the list? Am I that bad and in negative figures!  :D

Have you submitted a score for at least 3 of:

Perfectly Happy
Zeus & Hera's Nectar Invitational
The Sunset Valley/Riverview Team Upgrade Race
Career Couples' Grandslam Challenge.

Just to make it clear, to get a World Ranking you must have submitted a score for at least 3 challenges that have finished - ie. it is the challenge finishing that is the important part, you may have finished 3 challenges but if those challenges are still open then they wont count towards your ranking until they close.

Yeah, Nancy's right everyone—I thought the 3-event requirement was in the first post, but it's not. I think it use to be, but I change things around so much and make edits I can't remember day to day what I do! :)

EDIT: samoht04, my speadsheet has you finishing the Nectar Challenge and the Career one, so you'll be on the list with your next finish (an event that closes).
