It's like carrying around 5 cents. It can't buy anything, so it makes no major difference. You can lose it and there would be no loss to you.

How about a challenge building on Leto85's Max Skills idea? Actually it could be a stand alone challenge like the immortal dynasty and townie decadynasty. Fastest to max all skills (probably just base game to make it fair) and complete all the skill challenges. Also, lifespan would be set on normal so after a while you have to eat Ambrosia. First to max all the skills and all challenges wins.

Well, the Mad Max Skillz Marathon is coming up on August 1 and is just that exact idea. I'm quite sure no one will be able to max everything and do all challenges, but that is completely intentional on my part. Choices need to be made as to what you'll pursue.

Not really sure if this idea is any good, but whatever. Start with 4 sims. Traits and LTW can be anything. Goal is to fulfill the LTW of each sim and then kill them in four different ways (different for each sim). The scoring is by how fast the sims die. It could be you write down the time sim 1 dies and then add that to sims 2, 3, and 4. Or it could be the score is the time that the fourth sim dies. Is this idea any good, Metro?

Not sure. I'll have to let that simmer a bit. This year's events are obviously all locked up, so it would have to be next year anyway. Next year's events will be looser which means as far as I'm concerned killing Sims as a means to an end might actually be smart strategy. But, then it's still in the background — you know what I mean? It's not the focal point of the entire event which I still am not crazy about.

I'm not sure if this has been suggested or tried before, but I was thinking about a Challenge that goes against the grain.  Often, we're trying to get more, more, more.  This one is asking for more with less.

Title:       "Go for Broke: Money Can't Buy Happiness"

Goal:      In 12 sim-weeks, accumulate as much happiness as possible while keeping your family's net worth as low as possible.

Rules:    Pretty much anything goes, except cheats.
((I haven't really thought this part out, so there's lots of room for improvement.  Obviously, as someone who has access to ONLY
the Vanilla game, I'd want to limit the access to all Expansion Pack stuff, hehe))

************************************************************************************************************************

Edit:  I've come up with what I think may be a simpler, and more effective, scoring system -- see post #895 below.

************************************************************************************************************************

Scoring:  1)  Add up the Total Happiness points for every member of the household ("Household" is all Sims living under the same roof at the moment the Challenge ends).  100,000 is the default for any member who does not have at least 100,000 points..

             2)  Subtract Household Net Worth ("Household Net Worth" = value of furnished home plus Cash on Hand).

             3)  Divide by number of Sims in household.  The higher your score, the better.

Example:  The Delightful family has 8 members.  Three of the members did not accumulate 100,000 points.  The Household's Net Worth is 158,342.

               Happiness Points  = 345,678 + 234,567 + 123,456 + 123,321 + 109,876 + 100,000 + 100,000 + 100,000 = 1,236,898

               1,236,898 - 158,342 (Net Worth) = 1,078,556

1,078,556 divided by 8 household members = 134820 final score (rounded up)

Edited to correct math errors

That's an awesome idea for a challenge, Sim Posey! Sounds like Random Wishmasters III is on the way. ;D

I love Sim Posey Yum's idea - its like the Wishmasters challenge with a twist!

I've an idea but not sure how it would work out (came to light since my Sim kept wanting to do portraits of the Sims in town)....

The idea would be to paint (or ice sculpt?) all the regular townies (I'm talking the Altos, Crumplebottom, Goth, etc maybe a list to be made) in a certain time period (maybe limit this challenge to Sunset Valley only -then its less 'organizing' of townie names).  The pictures/sculptures would have to be kept and at the end you would get x amount of points per townie, and maybe a bonus per completed family unit.  (it would also be awesome to see pictures of everyone's pictures, but that's not part of the challenge)  It would have to be a challenging time limit.. 12 weeks?  7 weeks? and only one Sim in the house hold doing the art work, (whether this is the only Sim, or perhaps a pair of Sims, one artist and one completely not arty in any way so no tag teams on the art work - the other one could be the main $ earner?)

just an idea.

:)

I really like that idea, Sim Posey. I think that would be awesome as a Wishmaster III challenge.
Cndneh, your idea is also very interesting.

I'm glad you like the idea, folks!  Thank you!  Since I made that post, I tried to simplify the scoring system.  What do you think of this?

Introducing the Net Worth Divisor.  The Net Worth Divisor shows your household's relationship between happiness and money.  The higher your Net Worth, the larger your Divisor.  Can you be happy with less?

                          Net Worth                  Divisor

                             0   -  25,000 .............  1
                      25,001 -   50,000 .............  2
                      50,001 -  100,000 ............   3
                     100,001 - 200,000 ............   4
                     200,001 - 500,000 ............   5
                             over 500,001 ...........  10

Example:  Total Happiness = 987,654   (no matter how many people are in the Household)
Net Worth = 123,456  (thus, the Divisor is 4)
               Score = 987,654 divided by 4 = 246,913

@cndneh I really like your Painting Challenge!  I haven't spent much time exploring painting and this would be a great way to delve into it!

Your proposed idea has a problem. In the last few days of the game, players could just buy the most expensive things ingame, then detonate them, and buy again then detonating again. Or they could just build a giant luxiurious expensive house that would burn a giant hole in their pockets, because a family's net worth is the  immediate money they have.

I agree about the detonation thing, but it was the value of the house and cash at hand that is the net worth, you misread that. Perhaps a more complex system is needed, ask to catch naughty exploiters.

@YZJay You and I were thinking along similar lines -- sneaky ways to decrease Net Worth at the very end.  Since I don't have access to any detonation, I wasn't aware detonation was an option.  You're right.  That would be sneaky and probably shouldn't be allowed.

Another sneaky method would be to put stuff in Family Inventory on the last day.  Perhaps there should be a value-limit (1000?) on the total amount that can be stored in Family Inventory.

@Carlos Yes, Total Net Worth is Cash-on-Hand PLUS the value of the furnished home.

@Sim Posey Yum this would give people with generations an advantage because they could just give gifts to people. Also, if the sim has the good trait they could just donate money to charity everyday.

Well, guys, I really like Sim Posey's idea and all the cons that you have suggested so far can be used as parts of strategy. It actually doesn't mean the idea is not good, it just means that wiser players have more chances of winning. ;)

@Sportsfan Yeah, I was wondering about the Good/Charity aspect.  I thought the contribution was max'd at 1,000 per day but even still, that could really add up over time.  With regard to gifts, I didn't know gifting was an option; there are no gifts in Vanilla.  I suppose that would have to be addressed somehow.  Thanks for mentioning it!

I think charity and undermine charity should actually be included. It would be a philanthropic way for good sims to remain in humble living, and a dastardly way for evil sims to "cheat". (Well not cheat, but they are using dirty tactics)

Sim Posey Yum's challenge is starting to remind me of a movie called "Brewster's Millions"  (I think) I guy would inherit a fortune if he could get rid of 30 million in 30 days to inherit $300million (ok silly plot but....) the snag is he couldn't give it away to charity nor could he have any assets to show for it.  So (if I remember) he would do crazy stuff like hire a limo for the day for $500,000 to drive him around and stuff.  It was a stupid movie, but you could have restrictions like that, no charity/gifts, no buying huge assets, and no detonations.  We would have to trust people would play fairly just like the other challenges.  I still love the idea and might try it on my own just for fun!

I like the idea too, I was just pointing out a couple of things that I thought could take away from the point of the challenge. Its a great idea though.

This is a good idea for the scoring. I was getting confused a with the other one. This could add in strategy like how close to the high end of a divisor group can you get.

Because of Challenges, I've been doing things in Sims 3 I would have never thought possible.  The Challenges encourage us to push the envelope and really help with exploring new facets of the game.  At least, that's how it's been for me.  Without playing in Challenge mode, I doubt I'd have ever wondered "what if I tried to NOT make money?".

Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions.  I really think this could be viable!

@cndneh Hehe, you had to reach waaaay into the way-back machine for that one!  Richard Pryor was a hoot!

I agree, the challenges are making me do things I never thought I'd do, and I continue to play the family often after the game is done, like the baby boomer family, I love them and the requirements to 'move to the next level'.

Keep up the good work everyone! I love it!

@Sim Posey Yum  haha!  would it age me to say I saw it as a child around the time it was made....  didn't understand and thought it was silly.  haha!

I finally nailed down what I want to present everyone as far as the format of the Tournament Finale. You can find a brief description on the schedule. Now I'll flesh it out and write the ruleset. It should be pretty straightforward and simple.
