Is there a way to force a meteor?
« on: April 03, 2011, 02:02:14 AM »
Sorry if this has been asked already.
Is there a way to force Meteors? I have never experienced one in my game (touch wood), but I would like to know if there is a cheat or something. Also, I don't use Mods, and I probably never will, so no mod suggestions please.

I do not think there is a cheat to make it happen. Though I have had  game where one hit the house at the start and two where there was one heading towards a Sim.

It is random and comes in two flavors. One at the start of the game (where it smashes your stuff in the house and one where it could kill them if you you do not move them). Though every time they have had one head there way I have been doing other things saving them.

It is random just let it happen, be active and the rocks will fall. May it not kill your Sm or burn your house down. So just keep playing and it will happen in both flavors.

Okay, the flavor where it smashes stuff in my house, is that one of the events that can happen when you buy an unfurnished home?

The second one, is that the one where you get the message "Your sim wonders why the sky went dark" or something?

I've never heard of a cheat to force a meteor. However, they seem to happen to people more often when using the telescope.
I've personally had it happen once without the telescope and twice while using the telescope.

Edit: The time it happened to me without using the telescope, my Sims had just moved, and were arriving at their new house. I can't recall whether it was furnished or not, sorry.

I don't believe that that will spawn an event.
Events are spawned when you move someone in via the screen you get when you first load a town. You have to move them into an unfurnished house.

I've never had a meteor fall, ever.  While that might technically be a good thing (from some of the stories I've heard), I find I'm somewhat disappointed, really.  I'd like to at least see it once.

Oh, I see. Like the house flooding?
I never realised that meteor showers were one of those things.

The meteor shower that hit my sims when they moved houses was one of the "Sim A wonders why the sky went dark" one.

I haven't had a meteor either, and would like to have one out of interest.

Yes, there can be meteor showers as events.

Hosfac and Pally, I couldn't agree with you more.
I really want one to fall, since I'm doing (and posting about) the Apocalypse Challenge.

I've never had one fall, too. Tried everything: using telescope, using telescope surrounded by many Sims, staying out all day, playing for tips all day... Nothing, absolutely nothing helped.
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa

Yes the one where the sky gets dark is the main one. Every time I have gotten it my sim was leaving the area. The last one I was leaving another sims house. It is not often but it happens.

I've had two Meteor showers happen. The first was in my Dynasty, right near the beginning before my founder had a house built. It happened when he was running errands in town and "the sky got dark" as he was crossing the street in TB between the fire station and City Hall. I had quite a few smokin' townies for a couple Sim days. The second occurred during a test run of the Gardening/Cooking/Fishing Challenge. My Sim was living outdoors and it completely destroyed the half of the garden she was tending when the "sky is getting dark" message popped up.

I don't think there is a way to force a Meteor but meteors seem to target your Sim when they spend a great deal of time outdoors. Meteors have been reported, more than once, to have destroyed gardens on home lots (takes many Sim hours to tend to a fair sized garden) and have targeted controlled Sims out around town. I really can't offer advice on how to increase your chances of having a Meteor shower as the probability of having one is very low even when your Sims live out side for generations. It seems to be luck of the draw.

Really, hmm I don't think you're right on that last part. I've had that happen to me twice, and I never ever buy unfurnished houses.

In total, I've had 6 meteor strikes in my game.

2 like I just mentioned, and then 4 more from the sky got dark scenario.

My first time ever was an Evil Genius Sim using a telescope. Two others were telescopic scenarios also. Then one was just my Sim walking to a friends' house.

I think they add a little spice to the game and break up the boring aspects after you get a Sim that can't die by most instances except natural causes.

I haven't had a meteor shower either and I'm really dissapointed about that. I was so excited about it when I got Ambitions. So here's me keeping my fingers crossed!

Only one meteor ever, and it happened when I started the "Crescent Wrench" Challenge. My four Sims moved onto a cheap lot and there were outdoor beds and a small enclosed "house structure" that served as the bathrooms. When they were all sleeping on day two or something like that, one of my Sims got the "Its getting dark in here" thingy and I desperately tried to move her out of harms way but to no avail.

It was not fun for me at all and really messed things up, as you can see by my abysmal score in the challenge. :-D

I wouldn't want to force a meteor because I personally see no positive whatsoever. Even selling the meteor didn't help all that much.

Although, maybe seeing an enemy get crushed would be cool.

In my legacy story Wesley had one "stalk" him. I would get alert after alert about the sky getting dark. It was starting to get annoying. So annoying I even told the computer to "go ahead and drop and get it over with already" very loudly. Thankfully the alerts stopped when he moved out. However, I wish there was a way I could have gotten that thing to fall

I just had my first meteor experience and it was a doozy! My Sim was gardening and I had just clicked for him to go to town to complete a mission when I got the message box that said my Sim wondered why things looked so dark. I had no idea what was happening as I had not read beforehand about the meteor events in the game. The next thing I knew there was this really loud noise and there was this huge explosion that lasted for 10 to 20 seconds. There were bursts of flames, smoke and exploding sound effects, and it was very dramatic. It was much like the explosion you can create in the junkyard when you "detonate" the large scrap pile and it all goes up in one great big explosion. My kids were in the other room watching a movie and it got their attention too. They stopped their movie to ask me what the heck just happened..lol, they thought my computer blew up - lol. I ended up with a huge meteor that was worth over $8,000.00. There was major damage. I had a very large hole sunk into the ground and I had to replace all surrounding windows, lights, large statue, time machine, inventor station, 3 teleportation pads, 2 body sculpting devices, and my Margaret Vaguester vehicle which was parked in the garage where the meteor just happened to fall. After replacing all of that I found 1 scrap pile and a few small meteor rocks on my lot.

I gotta say, it was rather fun and so cool to have had that experience, but I would not want it to happen often in my game. It's a good thing I had the money to replace everything and that my Sim was spared.

The game never fails to amuse me, that's for sure! (Well, except for the maddening experiences of the game glitches, bugs, error codes and of course the dreaded black screen of death crashes!)

Try setting the cheat "Make Needs Static" and spending 100% of their time on a telescope. I heard that this can give you a higher chance to trigger a meteor.

That's what some people say, but large number of people I've seen discussing a meteor they actually saw in their games say that the sim they were playing had never even looked through a telescope before.  Likewise, I've never heard of anyone successfully triggering a meteor by doing so.  I believe that meteors that appear while some sims look through telescopes is sheer coincidence.

You actually want one?? Wow. There is no way to force it but when it happens you probably won't like it. I got Ambitions when it first came out and hadn't had one and was saying I wanted one. I got one and it was fun at first. But the other few times is NOT fun! They destroy expensive stuff, plus they mess up your garden and break your money trees.  >:( The first one I got was from using a telescope but the others have hit when I don't even own one so I agree it's totally random. I've never gotten the message the sky is getting dark and not had a meteor hit, that's weird!

Yeah, I know it sounds a little crazy.
I just wish that EA would make it just a teensy bit more common in one game - just for me. I've NEVER had one.
I always have my fingers ready to activate the cheat console and type "AlwaysAllowBuildBuy On" to ensure my sttuff gets saved.

Even if it strikes my lot while nothing's on it; the start of a legacy/dynasty even, I'd be happy.

I hope it (when I get one) doesn't hit the founder of my new Immortal Dynasty! Seriously, though, I hope it (again, when I get one) doesn't.

I don't know about anyone else, but I would like to see one at least once.  There are definitely some some games that I wouldn't want to see one in, but I'd like it to happen at some point.
