A Photography Challenge? Oh, Snap!

Goal
Like many of the Tournament Challenges, making money in a particular endeavor is at the core of this photography event. Make those shots count because you’re limited to 250 total photographs and completing photo collections in the skill journal will act as the multiplier and greatly increase your score.

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply. If applicable, exceptions will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules

• Create 1 Young Adult Sim.
• You're required to create your scoring file in Sunset Valley.
• There are no restrictions to adding to the household—having babies, adoption, moving Sims in...it’s all okay.
• Your photographer is the only household member allowed to call for a vacation. He’s alloted 9 total days of vacation—however you want to break it up is fine—3 days in each of the 3 locations, 9 days in one location, etc.
• One additional household member may join your photographer on any vacation.
• You're allowed to use a birthday cake to age up a Sim early provided the Sim is not an Elder..
• Intentionally killing Sims is not allowed. However, allowing a Sim to be cursed is to be viewed differently given this falls within normal gameplay. How you handle the cursed Sim is your choice. Letting a "singed" Sim continue to repair an item is also to be viewed as a natural accident in the game if it results in a death. I realize this whole area is very "iffy" but please use common sense.
• Your photographer is limited to a Photographs Taken stat of 250. No more.
• Ansel Adams is ready to help you. Everyone gets 7 free Ansel Adams Master Shots of anything in the game — is your camera driving you crazy and not registering something that would complete a collection? Cash in an Ansel Master Shot. 7 free shots to use however you like. No more.
• This challenge concludes at the end of 4 weeks (Week 4, Day 7, 11:59 PM).

Scoring

Money Earned — At the conclusion of the challenge, open up your photographer’s skill journal and note the Money Earned stat.

Collections — The Collections component is the scoring multiplier. As always, everyone begins with a multiplier of 1.00. If you have completely finished a collection in the skill journal you can add 5% to your multiplier (.05). Don't forget about your 7 free Ansel Adams Master Shots to help finish more collections.

Total — Jot down your Money Earned from Photography and multiply that figure by the Collections Multiplier. As an example, let’s say your photography skill journal says you earned $200,000 from photography. You also completed the Still Life, Family & Friends, and Everyday Moments collections. 3 completed collections = 3 X .05 = .15. Your final multiplier is 1.00 + .15 = 1.15.

Total = $200,000 X 1.15 = 230,000

Just to clarify, for travelling, we are allowed to send 1 sim (but no more) along with our challenge sim, right?

Absolutely.

Pretty much. It's yours and everyone's responsibility to make sure you do not go over that number.

Yes. That's in the General Rules.

I'm kind of scared of this one because I know that in the past I've found that there's no way that the camera will register for quite a few of the pictures, so no way to complete many of the collections.

I know what you mean. The Theatre building bug was fixed and I know that that one correctly registers now. But, yeah it may be a headache.

Yeah, working around the bugs will certainly be a ....challenge. I've never really played much with photography because of all the skills is such a pain and has so little benefit.

I think I've come up with a winning solution for potential camera registering bugs — everyone will receive 7 Ansel Adams Master Shots to use however they wish, so completing some collections will be a little easier...I hope. Check out the rules. But, I can't do anymore than 7 freebies, so please do not tell me "My camera won't register X." I know. That's why I'm doing this. Cash in a Master Shot and move on.

So does this mean that we can use 4 AA's to complete a collection where we only need 4 more shots??

Seabody, I think you understand it correctly, you can add 4 AA's if you miss 4 photos in collection, and you still have 3 more to add in collections you need to.

Metro, when I saw photography challenge my reaction was Yeey with a big smile. Only adventuring and collecting missing to complete my favorite parts of the game. Thank you, I'll be happy to compete in this one!

maybe I'm being a bit ditzy (metro knows what I'm talking about with my earlier question ), but what exactly is an Ansel Adams master shot? is it a mod? I didn't see anything in the guide about it, other than it being mentioned in the visionary lifetime wish. no details on how to obtain one. I am assuming the "photography book with a cd version read by ansel adams" isn't real.

Ansel Adams is a real person who was a Photographer. Metro has just named the 7 free pictures after Ansel Adams. It's not a Mod because this Forum doesn't do Third Party CC or Mods.

This place is amazing, not only do we find here very nice challenges, but we can even enhance our culture at the same time!

I've never tried photography in the Sims, but I'm looking forward to learning a few new things about it in this challenge.
Is there a list or thread on the forum of known photography bug? For example, you said something about bugs when taking the picture of the theatre - are the bugs like that mentioned anywhere on the forum to anyone's knowledge?

I'm not sure how many more bonafide "bugs" there are, Alexandria. I think the main issues are simply getting a camera to register what it is you're obviously pointing at. I remember in the Immortal Dynasty I was running into a problem with a Cherry Tree I think.
