CSquared, I'm so glad to hear that you've decided to give it another go.  I know how disheartening it is to start over again so late in the game.  On the positive side, I'm sure you learned a lot with Sven and Barbora.  Good luck with Steven and Barnabas!  And good luck to you, too, Chronic!

That sounds awesome, CSquared! Gotta love those blessings in disguise. :D Glad everything worked out for you, and good luck in your new file!

Good luck also to Chronic and Nashee, and welcome Nashee! I lurked on this forum a long time before I finally joined but after heavy-duty surfing I have to say in my opinion this is the BEST Sims forum out there. Not surprising as it's on the BEST Sims site!

After 3 games with those darn empty green boxes I FINALLY gave up on trying to go on vacation.  That seemed to glitch my game (and apparently many others as well!)  That is not to say that I was out of the woods when it came to glitchy glitch-a lot with this challenge, but I finished  :D  I'm sure now that I am EA will finally put out the patch that will fix these problems!

icrawbeans, I am so sorry to hear about that photography glitch.

It's not enough that one sim gets no meter movement at work from 9 p.m. until midnight. Now, he gets a message that he is late for work on his day off. He is not scheduled Wednesday or Thursday, yet at 9 p.m. on Wednesday while talking to his boss on the cell phone, he gets the negative red arrow for missing work in the work meter that showed up in his actions. So, I sent him to work where his work meter didn't move at all during the whole shift and then he didn't get sent home after work or paid for the shift. I had to "x" the work action in his queue and tell him to go home. If I had quit and restarted the Sims, would the work meter have reset itself for the shift (meaning that it would no longer say he was late for work and/or it would start moving up at 9p.m. unstead of normally waiting until midnight)? Should I save and quit my game after each work shift in order to make sure the work meter resets correctly? I know it's a small thing in the grand scheme of glitches, but it is frustrating. (I will run a test later as I used "save as" and gave the file a new name when this glitch happened.)

Ciane, if it makes you feel better, that glitch isn't just you: in general if a sim gets promoted after a work shift that ran past midnight (which happens in three particular career tracks that I know of) their next work shift will be screwed up; either they'll be expected to come in on their off day for a shift that won't end properly, or they won't make progress before midnight (which is a lot of fun when the shift runs 9 pm - 1 am...). I've found a couple things that make it less miserable but I think mentioning them might count as strategy.

I'm curious about how your test with saving and quitting after getting promoted will turn out (although you shouldn't need to use separate save files since it's not a problem with a corrupted save). This bug has frustrated so many people for so long it would be nice to have a known workaround for it.

icrawbeans, I feel your pain. Vacations were so chancy -- when I came back and found one of the parents was in a different career, I decided to stay home after that. But to lose all of a skill -- ouch!

Next up in Mom's action queue (with regard to eldest teen son):

"Ask to leave home."

 :o

After a brief moment of utter panic (Nooooo I'm this close to finishing the Challenge and he's got a ton of points -- I can't lose him!), I figured it was a game typo.  Son had entered the bathroom while Mom was preparing to take a shower.  His action queue said "Be Shooed from room".  I'm assuming, therefore, that hers probably should have said, "Ask to leave room".  To be on the safe side, however, I made both of them leave the room.  Crisis averted.

This incident had no effect on Happiness points and no impact on game progress.  I just found it perplexing and a little bit comical.   I can only imagine how she might have reacted if she'd had the Over-Emotional (or Hot-Headed) trait!

Anyway, is there an actual "Ask to leave home" command?  I've never seen it before.  I'm sure it was a typo/bug but now I'm curious.

Lol. I've never seen it, but my money's on yes. Have you ever had a child — a child in a very happy family, mind you — get the wish to see their parents break up? What's up with that?

hahaha--must have been evil!

I have never had so many glitches in this game!  Generations really did a number on me.  And to say that I never want to fullfill another aspiration point again would be the understatement of the year,

Good luck to everyone still playing  :P

Now that you mention it, yes!  In this very Challenge!  It wasn't technically a wish (whew -- lets me off the hook with regard to deciding whether to fulfill it!);it was a dialog option.  Under Friendly, I think.   I wondered, um ok, does this kid know something I should be aware of???

**********************************************************************************************************

In any event, I finally finished the Challenge!  Yippee!  Here are my numbers:

                 - Adult 1 (Amy).............................. 274,767  (LTW achieved)
                 - Adult 2 (Lacey)............................ 280,194  (LTW acheived)
                 - Child 1 (Zachery)..........................  83,702
                 - Child 2 (Bradley)..........................  74,895
                 - Child 3 (Corey).............................  95,530  (LTW acheived)
                 - Child 4 (Nadia).............................  43,920
                 - Child 5 (Joelle).............................  28,176
                 - Child 6 (Tina)...............................  15,656

               Grand Total................................... 896,840

What a hoot!  Again, Metro, thank you ever so much for setting these up.  This was my first-ever Challenge and I had an absolute blast, even with all the trials and tribulations.  Thank you, too, for your incredible patience in dealing with my super-long questions (hehe).  You're a peach!

On to the next Challenge!

Those green boxes were the death of me! After my first child entered the family, I continously had issues with the green boxes, so I stopped sending me sims on vacation. But the only good save I could get after that was when the second child entered the family. After that green boxes every time I saved and went back. So the only idea I could come up with is just to finish it without going out of my game. I did save after every week but I knew in my heart that it wasn't saving properly. So I just played and hoped I could finish. Well 1 and half weeks from finish, my game completley locked up and I had to totally shut my whole computer down >:(. When I went back to my saves, yep green boxes gallore. I just don't have the heart to start over as I would probably have to start completley new without vacations I'm guessing. Does anyone still get the green boxes when they haven't been on vacation? I'm curious because if not, I'm not playing sims anymore until they get a patch to fix this.

I was able to get three of the scores of my sims on my last save. Two of the boxes weren't green, the top two. The other one I got, because that's what I must have been clicked on because I was able to look at their happiness points. So I'm going to turn my score in with that, if that's okay. I was doing so good too, or at least I thought I was.

The Chance family

Adult 1 (Annice) - 359,455  (LTW achieved)....see, wasn't that one pretty good, and I still had a week and half left with her.
Adult 2 (Jewell) - 287,358 (LTW achieved)
Child 1 (Latisha) - 72,7222 (LTW achieved)

Grand total - 719,535

I had three games that I lost because of this.  At first I thought it was when both people went on vacation, but then it happened with just one.  It was wierd because the Sim would b home for days before I saved and closed out and then when I started again, poop, she was gone!  Frustrating.  I ended up completing the challenge without going on vacation and no green boxes!  A few other wierd things but you can still play.

Thanks for letting me know. I guess until they get a patch I'm just going to have to stay away from vacations. Yeah, I had the same problem. Nothing was wrong with my sims when I came back, only when I saved after they came back and I tried to get back into my game from the save. Even after going on vacation and realizing what what was happening I quit going on vacation and got a good save but even not going on vacation after that save it must have already been a bug in the game by then because it kept happening even without the vacation.

I just started my game file this morning, and I'm really excited because my female got the kleptomaniac trait. I've never played a kleptomaniac before, so it's kinda cool getting her to steal things from the neighbors. So far I got a lawn chair :P

How are you guys keeping track of what week you're on? I was thinking about putting a potted plant on the side of the house every monday so I would know what week I'm on.

Glad you're having fun, Nashee!  To track what week you're on, simply hover your mouse over the Day/Time box and a smaller, grey pop-up box will appear, showing you the Week and Day numbers (ex: Week 1, Day 3).

That's a cool idea Nashee. I was wondering the same thing before but then I was told to put the cursed over the time.

For what it's worth: if the "bed bug" where the sims won't stay asleep doesn't have any effects other than "they won't stay in bed", I think it can be solved by selling and replacing the bed. Much easier than restarting. The real game-killer "bed bug" involves someone getting stuck half-in and half-out of bed, and a resetsim on that sim will first result in them floating in midair in the "sleeping" position, possibly around the same time as other sims become invisible.

Cathyknits I do know about the replacing the bed trick, but it didn't solve it for me. I also tried reseting the sims to solve it, but that didn't work either unfortunatly.

Phooey. I have been having a lot of issues with this file. LOL So, my Sim just travelled to Al Simhara ... her first vacation had no issues, but it was to Shang Simla ... and everything was going along dandy. After she bought her camera (Hikon), however, she became frozen while Sim life and Sim time went on around her. Metro, may I use reset Sim in this scenario, or is there possibly some other solution I'm missing?
