Here's a Tip: Party Like a Rock Star!

Here’s a Tip: Party Like a Rock Star!

Goal
With multiple scoring components, you’ll be pushing your Rock Star to the very edge. But, like Neil Young said...it’s better to burn out than fade away!

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply. If applicable, exceptions will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules
  • Create 1 Young Adult Sim.
  • There are no restrictions to adding to the household, but your starting character (your Rock Star) is the only character that can be scored.
  • The guitar exploit is banned. Absolutely no canceling of Perform queues.
  • Also, during Perform queues you are forbidden to go to Map view.
  • Playing for Tips in Subways is banned.
  • You can’t throw parties until attaining the Rock Star level in the Music Career, and you’re restricted to throwing parties one day per week (your choice of day week to week).
  • You cannot prematurely end a party. All guests must leave on their own accord without influence from your Rock Star.
  • The Legendary Host reward is banned.
  • Vampires may not be on a party guestlist.
  • No vacation or traveling allowed.
  • This challenge concludes at Week 11, Day 2, 8 AM.

Scoring

Tip — This is the largest single tip received during a “Play for Tips” session. Be observant because the tips fly up the screen pretty quickly.

Concerts — This is the total received from your 2 best paying Concerts.

Autograph — This is the total received from your single best paying Autograph session.

Epic Party — This is the challenge multiplier. Everyone begins with an Epic Party multiplier of 1.00. For each Epic Party you host (be observant of the end-of-party desciption in the top right of the game screen), 5% (.05) is added to your Epic Party multiplier. Read over and be familiar with party hosting limitations again in the rules above.

Here’s an example:

The challenge concludes at Week 11, Day 2, 8 AM, so at that point you pause your game and look at your notes. Let's use Stevie Ray Vaughan as an example. Stevie Ray’s highest tip was 5000 simoleans. Next, his 2 best Concert payouts were 3,157 and 3,576. Those add up to a Concert score of 6,733. Third, his most profitable single Autograph session was 8,009 simoleans. And finally out of the 18 parties Stevie Ray threw, 16 ended up being Epic. So, the Epic Party Multiplier = 16 X .05 = .8.

So, add up the 3 main components: 5000 + 6,733 + 8,009 = 19,742.

Epic Party Multiplier = 1.00 + .8 = 1.80

Final score = 19,742 X 1.80 = 35,535 (decimal places are always dropped)

I decided to be productive today and get another rule set out of the way. It's not a 3 week Mini, and it's not a 10 week Major. I guess it's a Minjor. Lol. Anyway, I think you guys will like it. Enjoy.

What about the subway system?

What about the subway system?

Does not matter and has no impact on individual tips. Most of us know that the subway greatly influences total amount made over a given session. But, it does not impact individual tip amounts — just the rate at which they come. If someone has experience that proves otherwise, fine, let me know.

10 week Major.

I think you meant to say 12 week here.

Just want to point out a small flaw in your example score (unless I'm reading it wrong) - you say 16 out of 18 parties were epic but at 1 party per week you couldn't have thrown more than 11 parties (probably only 10 depending whether you make rockstar before the end of week 1 - not sure if its even possible) and something else that I inadvertently discovered the other day which I will PM you about.

I was referring to real time (not Sim time) for players. Minis are usually 3 weeks and Majors are 10 weeks if you look at the Schedule Sticky. So, for this event, it's not quite as long in game length as a Major, so I tacked on 2 weeks of real time. Bottom line is you have 5 weeks to get this done as opposed to 3 weeks for the typical Mini.

I see. I admit I haven't actually played a guitarist in a long time and never in the Subway so I wasn't completely certain how that worked, but I wanted to bring it up. Tip amount isn't increased, the number of tips received is. Got it.

NancyJ, you're restricted to throwing parties one day a week, but how many you throw in that one day is not restricted.  ;) Ah, that just reminded me I need to add another restriction just like last year's Political Traitor event. No cutting parties short.

NancyJ just PM'd me and was curious as to the text that accompanies an Epic party. The text to look out for is something like "That party was awesome, on the verge of Epic." Something like that. I'm just calling it Epic instead of Awesome for the purpose of the multiplier.

--------

EDIT: I've decided to ban the Legendary Host reward. (thanks Seabody and NancyJ)

---------

EDIT 2: One more possible exploit revealed involving vampires as party guests. Thanks, NancyJ.

Is income restricted? So can the Rockstar get married, then have their partner get a job?

Yep, that's fine. None of that influences the scoring components.

NancyJ brought an interesting exploit to my attention that forces me to ban players using Map view during a Perform queue while playing guitar. I know it's an odd ban, but it has to be that way for this event. I hope everyone remembers to do this. Check the rules for the edit.

NancyJ comes to my aid once again. Indeed there is a huge difference between tip amounts in the subway and elsewhere — like 4X. So, I'll just ban playing for tips in subways to not exclude players who do not have Late Night.

I have a question about the vampires.  The rules say we cannot invite them to a party, but what if they show up on their own?  I didn't thiink uninvited guests could come but I have actually had this happen a few times.

Metro will have to answer this one. He's out of town for a couple of days, but will be able to give an answer when he returns.

If they show up on their own that's fine as long as all of your invited guests are not vampires. It's the Epic Party multiplier that could be turned into an exploit if you simply hosted outdoor daytime parties and the guest list was restricted to vampires. "Is it hot in here or is it just me? Well, great party...catcha later."

I never thought of this.  Can you actually have an epic party if the vampires are outside?  When you're grouped up with them if they leave because if the heat, it's always been a horrible group outing for me.

I've started a test for this challenge, so at least I won't be late to this party :-) From what I've seen, the 'perform' queues are not affected anymore by using Map view (post patch & with Generations). If others players can confirm this too, the ban could probably be lifted.

Then a question: the concert component for the score is the "perform concert" from the Rock Star career, right? I just ask a confirmation because I thought you meant the 'gig' from the SE music band career when I first read the rules. But this wouldn't be non-LN-users friendly.

Yeah, you're probably right. Given what I know about the mechanic involved in what determines the rating of a party, there would not be the necessary time for a vampire that simply comes and goes. But, 'nuff said in that department.

Anyway, better safe than sorry. Just a few more events with lots of restrictions and then we all can enjoy the "anything goes but cheats" mentality. The way I look at it is I'll be gaining 25 extra hours every day from not having to answer challenge questions.

Fine. I'd like to hear some other confirmations on this and I'd be happy to lift the ban.

Right. It's Perform Concert. Gigs are different animals.

Thank you Metro. I'm so relieved not to have to play in Bridgeport. My old computer doesn't like it at all, and the subway system and camera movements in high rises drive me positively nut.

I'm very much looking forward the last challenge and the unveiling of the "anything but cheats" new rule. I think I will like the challenges even more then.
