I'm getting my geek on for this one, I need to make up for my poor score on the last one. I've made a spreadsheet of all the possible combinations (there's 2k+) I wonder how many I can get through before I get bored. lol.  Realistically I'll probably only bother making the ones that the prediction says go well together but I've found that unreliable - I've had a prediction saying they go well together but then when it came out it said it was terrible.

What is this prediction you're talking about?  If it involves a cheat code, it won't be allowed for the challenge.

When I read Nancy's comment I took it to mean she was testing with a Sim that already had the nectar-making challenge finished where you can predict taste outcome. Nancy, if that's not the case, then you should not be employing cheats — even if you're testing for the challenge.

No cheats. Just the mix-master (or whatever its called) advantage that supposedly allows you to 'predict flavor outcome' - like I said its not always accurate in my experience but its a start.

Thanks for the clarification, Nancy. I figured you were testing with a Sim that had that challenge completed.

Ugh. I'm getting impatient for this to start. Must resist an early start....must resist an early start!

That's what you get for already knowing what your recipe is ;)

So far my best involve [edit — MM]. Theoretically I might be able to get the [edit — MM]. I'm hoping an extensive testing of all possible 2 fruit combinations will give me a better recipe, I'm pretty sure there's one out there because my most expensive bottle falls quite a bit short of the highest price I've seen reported.

What does afaik mean?

As far as I know.

-----

EDIT: I think mentioning specific recipes falls within the realm of "too much info" for this thread. So, if anyone has mentioned specific nectar recipes please edit your posts. Thanks.

I went through the whole thread and edited what jumped out to me as obvious stuff. So, we should be good. But, no more specific recipes. Players need to do their own homework.

Thanks, Metro.  I guess I've got another thing to start editing.  If I don't know what it means, there will be others.  So, it needs to be spelled out.

Though the guide spoils it all, if you ask me; no point in censoring the forums.

The point is we're asking that anyone at least do the homework and make the effort to find the recipes. And what's on the Guide is hardly the end-all be-all to recipes. If I or someone else just hold your hand and say, "here's the most valuable recipe" then what's the point?

That wasn't a recipe btw ;) The 2 ingredients mentioned feature in 2 different recipes and even if it were, its not possible to create in this challenge - well according to the guide and everything I've experienced so far but like in the Perfectly Happy challenge, maybe I missed something heh.

...I wouldn't be too sure about that (especially if you include the associated forum post), the information out there is pretty slim. Honestly I've only found one piece of information from a source that isn't this site and forums and as yet it hasn't proved to be useful information.

Let me clarify. The Guide isn't exhaustive. There's good recipes listed there, and yes some of my own strategy is formulated from the homework Carl has already done. Who wouldn't use those recipes? I think you'd be brain dead not to. But, maybe there are other recipes even more valuable than what he discovered. Carl's not going to sit at his computer for 40 hours and try every available nectar recipe. He's got other stuff to do too. That's all I was saying. If I have some free time this week, I may do some experimenting. What I'm dreading though is playing a test Sim for a few weeks and try and bunch of high value recipes and basically come up with nothing that beats what's already on the Guide. That would be heart-breaking because it would be like wasted time then.

If the ones on the guide/forum work for you then, yeah, it would probably be a waste of time. From the little experimenting I've done, I think there probably isn't a better per bottle value than what's already been posted but those recipes don't work out so well for me - hmm just had a thought, is your computer intel or amd?

What do you mean? The bottle value you recieve is not on par with what Carl found?

The highest value recipe mentioned in the guide comes out at $603 with extended nectaration - for me the same recipe with flavorful feet + flavor upgrade comes out at $493. I haven't completed vizard of vine or master of nectar making but neither of those should affect the flavor or value. I have 2 recipes that come out around $532 but still not topped $600 yet.

iMac.
Intel then. It could be that the difference are a simple case of Intel vs AMD. There's useful information in the forum thread about the algorithms involved and why the same recipes don't come out the same for everyone.

Predicting wine quality is what you get for completing one of the ingame nectarmaking challenges, Flavorful Feet if I recall correctly.  You get it for mashing 40 batches of fruits.

Mix-Master - for producing 15 different combinations. Flavorful Feet increases the value of your nectar.

That kind of blows.  ???  So, if you're on an AMD machine and use a particular recipe, and get X simoleans per bottle, chances are I'm going to get a different amount for the same recipe because I'm on an Intel machine? Yuck. I don't know what the heck I can do about that.

The forum post goes into more detail but the basics of it is the value of a recipe is computed, rather than there being a giant lookup table with every possible recipe in it (which I imagine would be hundreds of thousands of recipes). The recipe is hashed and the hash is used to generate a random number iirc - the random number (and possibly the hash) will be slightly different depending on your CPU. It could even vary between different core architectures from the same manufacturer. Someone with an older/new intel than you/carl could have different results.

I'm just hoping my computer can come up with a recipe as good as that $603 a bottle one.

I don't have my old Zeus and Hera anymore, so no test character. I can't see anyone getting Cranerlet grapes anyway. I think those are only on the island.

They are somewhere else aswell. Haven't tested whether its possible to get them though. I was just wondering how that compared to the $603 recipes - because for me that one and another one come out higher than the one from the guide.

Oh, yeah. I forgot about house up the road from base camp. Maybe I will do some testing this week. So much time to get to that point in the game with all of the Life Fruit though. That's what I'm dreading. I may just "wing it" like some others and just see what happens.
