Hobos to Heroes Race
« on: June 08, 2011, 01:13:18 PM »
The Hobos to Heroes Race

Goal
Start with two Young Adult Sims ill-equipped for what you are about to tackle. You’re going to literally starve them for two days and also have them become enemies. But, then the fun begins. Once they achieve the “Starving” moodlet and are enemies, you need to get them married and have both attain the Firefighter Super Hero LTW as soon as possible. You’re allowed to choose any traits you wish, but making things more difficult for yourself by giving your Sims nasty traits in CAS will actually reduce your final time.

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply. If applicable, exceptions will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules
  • Create 2 Young Adult Sim.
  • Use the Customize LTW option for both and choose Firefighter Super Hero.
  • Relationship must be set at Housemate.
  • Starting lot must be empty.
  • Only children may be added to the household and your Sims may not join another household.
  • Your Sims cannot leave the lot or buy anything until both have the “Starving” moodlet and are enemies with each other (approximately 2 days). No Friendly or Romantic socials can be attempted until the Starving moodlet has appeared.
  • No vacations allowed.
  • The “Nasty” traits, if you decide to use them, must be assigned in CAS. Mid-Life Crisis is banned.
  • This challenge concludes when your Sims are married and both have attained their Firefighter Super Hero LTW.

Scoring

Ending Time — When your Sims are married and both have attained their Firefighter Hero LTW, pause the game and write down the Week, Day, and Hour (do not concern yourself with minutes at all. Just drop them off completely from your score).

Trait Reduction — You can reduce your finish time by a maximum of 10 days by electing to give your Sims any or all of the following 10 traits (each trait results in one day chopped off your Ending Time):

Both Sims can receive the following traits:
Committment Issues
Coward
Grumpy

You may also assign the following 4 traits:
Unflirty (must be given to the Sim on the receiving end of the marriage proposal)
Mean-Spirited
Loser
Couch Potato

Final Time — Take your Ending Time and simply reduce it with the number of traits you chose to give your Sims. Let’s say you finished on Week 4, Day 7, 5 pm and between your two Sims 6 of the 10 nasty traits were assigned. So, you’d take off 6 days. Your Final Time = Week 4, Day 1, 5 pm.

The challenges is so different and therefore nice, but are you sure we shouldnt take the minutes also, im afraid that maybe there will be some double scores?

Let's not worry about it. In the event there is a tie (and first place is the only time it would matter to determine a champion) we'll go to minutes to break the tie.

When you say 5 pm as your finishing example, is that rounded to the nearest hour or truncated?

Ah, yeah. Thanks. Just as with other scores in other events, drop off the minutes completely when reporting your score (but jot them down in the event of a tie).

Thanks to bored1 for jogging my memory on the importance of starting lot. I'll make the appropriate edits. I don't care what lot someone starts at, but it needs to be a empty lot. Once your Sims have the "starving" moodlet you're free to go wherever. Although moving in with a wealthy family would seem to be an exploit.

So for the first two days, until they're starving, we have to keep doing mean interactions until they're enemies?
This challenge looks so different - I'm looking forward to starting it.

Yeah, pretty much. Although I will give you one tip from my test file — and it has nothing to do with strategy. Make them enemies and then you're good to go. The Game senses they're enemies so you can forget about actually queueing up negative socials. They'll hurl insults at each other while you sit back and fast forward the game to get to that starving point. Lol. It's pretty funny, actually, Alex — seeing them pee on themselves and drop from exhaustion.

When you say we can't buy anything until they're starving - I assume that includes building?

Lol, this one sounds way too funny! I don't think I'll be able to handle it. :D

But, not only for that reason.. Our school restarts on Sept. 1 exactly. Hm. :-\

Can't buy anything, can't build anything, can't go anywhere. You plop your 2 Sims down on an empty lot of your choice. That's it. You never leave Live mode until they're starving.

And our goal isn't 2 days specifically but the starving moodlet and enemy status.  Meaning we aren't watching the clock to begin their turn-around but just those two things.

I have already created the template of my couple so I am excited about starting their torture the day after my birthday. ;D

And the inner-sadist comes out in Metro... :D

I understand. So the first two days are mainly just set up - a few negative interactions and they'll be on their way to enemies.
And like Teresa said, it's the starving moodlet we're waiting for, isn't it? Not the two day mark?
Also, in our final score, are we counting the two original days it took to make them enemies?

Exactly. I remember noting in my test file the starving moodlet finally spawned Tuesday morning.

So the first two days are mainly just set up - a few negative interactions and they'll be on their way to enemies.
And like Teresa said, it's the starving moodlet we're waiting for, isn't it? Not the two day mark?

Right. I do not see the starving moodlet firing sooner/later for anyone, but once that spawns for your Sims, you can unshackle them and get to work.

Also, in our final score, are we counting the two original days it took to make them enemies?

Yes, the game clock is what you'll be looking at when you accomplish the 2 goals.

This sounds like a fun challenge! When I get a new computer and I'm able to play sims 3 once again you might be getting a PM from me metro  ;) Hopefully won't be too long now!

So, just to be certain - even if it remarkably takes one day, as soon as our two sims are enemies and starving, we can start building/buying?

EDIT:

When you say:
Both Sims can receive the following traits:
Committment Issues
Coward
Grumpy

You may also assign the following 4 traits:
Unflirty (must be given to the Sim on the receiving end of the marriage proposal)
Mean-Spirited
Loser
Couch Potato

It sounds as if you pretty much mean we can assign any of those traits. Do you mean we CAN assign them all, or both sims MUST have the first three?

It won't. Trust me.

Yep. Both conditions need to exist.

Yeah, there's probably a better way to word what I was getting at. You don't have to assign any of those traits at all, but then you would not receive any time reduction. Commitment Issues, Coward, and Grumpy can be assigned to both Sims. The other 4 can't assuming you were going for max score — you'd have to divide them up between the two Sims.

I'm not in the habit of participating in Challenges (other than the Dynasty Challenge), since I lack the time for it. However, this Challenge is so different and unconventional that I will definitely do this just for my own amusement. It's a side of the game I can't say I have explored - ever, and it will make for some interesting findings I'm sure!

Kudos to you for coming up with this Metro!

I will also most definately be doing this challenge. It's short enough for my attention span, relatively simple in theory, but will end up being very challenging in fact. I'm really looking forward to this one, Metro.

This sounds like a rather interesting challenge. Another question when I do participate, is, would inappropriate or Evil work for this challenge too since they would get a kick out of watching the other Sim suffer and really spew insults in full gear? Also how about using Daredevil?

You can choose any traits at CAS as you wish. The ones the offer time reduction to your score have been laid out in the rules.

Well I just finished my first night of testing with my couple on this one. With the starving part, I needed to make sure I can see when it happens, and what I'm looking for.. but I agree with Metro, I just loved setting back after making them argue and insult each a couple of times, and they just seamed to fall right into it.. I loved it.  ;D ::) guess I have a tiny bit of a "sadistic" side too. LOL I am looking forward to mondays challenge!

Yes I know Mondays challenge is different from this one. This is one I have to test and do a dry run with.... because of the way it starts. Mondays challenge is "Foster Parent Frenzy" ... Good Luck
