You're Hired: The Trump Challenge
« on: October 04, 2009, 10:07:31 PM »
You’re Hired: The Trump Challenge

Congratulations. You and your new spouse were co-winners of last season’s Sims Apprentice. The Donald was so impressed he had to hire both of you. Now the real work begins. Trump has taken serious interest in Sunset Valley and the Trump Organization has “asked” the two of you to move to the town and buy up all the businesses as quickly as possible. In addition to the purchase of the businesses, Trump’s wife Melania has asked for 11 items as souvenirs. Needless to say, Melania has expensive tastes and you won’t find these items at the Dollar Store.

GOAL

Start with a Young Adult married couple (no kids) and have them acquire full ownership in the 11 Sunset Valley businesses. Plus, buy Melania her 11 trinkets quickly before she stomps her foot on the ground and sulks to Donald.

RULES

1. Create 2 new young adult sims (Relationship Link = Spouse) with the lifespan option set to "Long." Both sims need to immediately enter the Business career. The All-powerful Donald is keeping tabs on both of you, so no additional revenue streams — it’s all Business career and Business Opportunities.

2. Build a house or move into an existing home — doesn't matter. Change homes as often as you want.

3. No cheats or modifications.

4. No traveling allowed.

5. The challenge ends when you and your spouse have full ownership of all 11 Sunset Valley businesses and have purchased all 11 items for Melania. The player to accomplish the goal in the fewest days wins.

Melania’s Items:
* WallVuu Standard TV (TVs)
* SimLife Goggles (Video Games)
* Ambiguity Itself (Misc Decor)
* XS 4258p Laptop from Landgraab Industries (Computers)
* Mad Llama Foosball Table (Indoor Activities)
* Puck’s Soliloquy (Paintings & Posters)
* Multifunction Seachlight Device (Outdoor Lights)
* Plaza Gusher (Lawn Ornaments)
* F-Class Hunter-Killer (Lawn Ornaments)
* Bwan Speedster YL (Transporation)
* Margaret Vaguester (Transportation)

Good luck, everyone!

Players Who Have Finished the Challenge —

YES! I love this! Skippin' rocker and taking this one on this week.

Brilliant! I need an Ivanka... I liked her in the apprentice :P And I just did the businesses guide. Take note of how you do this one folks in regards to the businesses. I'm curious if buying small ones first or saving up for the big ones is better and too lazy to do the math.

Pray the math guy who posted in the corrections board doesn't take this one on, he'll be the beast at investing.

Alright, I think I've finally got my game plan down and am going to create Jack and Suzy Welch, a pretty famous, high-end husband/wife team in the real business world. I think the traits I'm going to give them both are: Workaholic, Ambitious, Charismatic, Schmoozer, and Over-Emotional. I was trying to figure out if Friendly could be worked in too, but then one of the other traits would have to drop.

Good luck with your run at this, Carl. We're 1-1, so this can be the tie-breaker for us.  ;)

I have exactly 0 experience with business ownership.
Maybe a nice one to try here.

This looks like a really fun one -  I didn't finish the rockstar challenge ( it was just getting too long and boring- sleep, play for tips, concert repeat...) and I started the couples challenge and it is fun because I haven't played with Law Enforcement but Barbie and Ken have already maxed their careers and it is starting to get a little repetative.

This one looks like a blast! I might have to start it tonight!!!

Barbie and Ken! I love it, Honeymooners.  :D

Good luck in this challenge. Jack and Suzy Welch are doing well, albeit a slow start. They're just about done with their first week. Jack was able to hit one level higher in the Business career than Suzy because of his relationship with his boss. On day 1 Jack and Suzy both signed up for the Business career and immediately went to the Library afterwards for some skill studying. After they each hit level 1 in Charisma, I had Jack invite his boss to meet at the Library while Suzy read a Cooking book.

I finished the work week (Fri afternoon) with around 5700 simoleans. So, I just missed the amount necessary to become Partner in the Diner and will have to wait until next week. I have trouble boiling water in real life, so I'm pretty sure advanced computations in trying to deduce what methods of investing would yield the best results is beyond my ability. I'm just going to go for stuff when I can afford it and focus on getting raises as quickly as possible.

Jack and Suzy Welch are doing pretty well. I'm in the middle of the 9th Week and they outright own everything except the Science Facility (they do have a partnership there). So, I probably won't have the funds to buy the Science Facility for one more week since I just bought the Stadium and that completely drained them. It's too bad the revenue from Holding Meetings is fixed at $750 simoleans a crack and doesn't increase over time.

So, I'm guessing the final ending date for Jack and Suzy will be sometime in the 13th Week — one more week to buy the Science Facility and 3 after that to get Melania her souvenirs.

I just finished this challenge. And I was right — Jack and Suzy finished in their 13th Week. It would have been the 12th Week, Day 7, but I was about 3k simoleans short to having the funds necessary to buy Melania all of her goodies. So, I had to go in Sunday and have each of them hold 3 meetings a piece. I'll put down my actual time in case anyone else finishes the same day. This was a fun one — it did get a bit boring towards the end with not much change in their routine, but it was still different. Good luck to everyone else.

Cool news, to help me with developing the challenge section Pam is going to do the Centurion Couple's Challenge and I'm taking on Trump this weekend, so we'll finally have a full-fledged challenges page on the site! We'll feature most (good) member created challenges and link to some of the popular ones (like legacy). It'll be great, and we may find some new contenders!

That could bring in some new readers.
It might be a good idea to post the top 5 under the description.
That way people can see some results before trying it themselves.

Writing this as we speak, turns out i chose the exact same traits as you Metro, and it was purely coincidental. Pretty sure we can be clear they're the absolute best for the business career.

Do you mean the Plaza Gusher instead of calling it Landgraab Science facilities fountain for $50,000? I can't seem to find one of the same name.

Yeah, Carl. Sorry about that. I wrote the list of goodies from the Prima Guide instead of going in-game which is what I should have done.

Still working on this. Metro, you should ban Kleptomania. It's not explicitly stated, but it should be, this is about accumulating wealth through business. I realized I could have stolen a couple sports cars and a plasma tv very easily.

Edit: only mentioned because there's a speedster outside the business building and I wouldn't want anyone to get any bright ideas.

I have now completed my Trump challenge, at last! My final score: Week 11, Day 4 at 7:36PM

Metro, this was a good one, but as you say it gets a bit monotonous toward the end when you're forced to do not much more than eat, sleep, shower and hold business meetings. This challenge has been under-appreciated. I look forward to someone else taking on my score. Get on it, people!

I'll publish the log tomorrow. I'm exhausted from typing and playing. This thing took 15 hours to complete, and I took it all on in one day, but I learned oh so much along the way.

Oh, and now that it's over, my Carl Sim can now safely Woohoo with Ivanka Trump without worrying about any 'accidents'.

Cheers.

You should definitely try the Max Skills challenge, it's long but fun. You're bound to learn something, I'm still using things I learned from doing that challenge.

I'm about 1/3 of the way through - Week 4, Day 6 and Alan and Laura Harrison are now partners in every business. Now the hard part - getting the serious money for ownerships and the items. Another $824,775 to go. Omg I didn't realise how much further I have to go.

Awww that means I'm gonna be bottom of the leaderboard  :'(

:D No, I shall think positively. I shall only be second bottom.

EDIT: Omg. I went to get my dinner, and pressed "p", to pause Sims. Little did I know that Sims wasn't highlighted, so it didn't register it. Got back - 4 Sims days, gone. Work performance down so that they are under a millimetre away from being fired. Could have earned around $35,000 - $40,000. Am sooo mad at myself.

OUUUUCH! Well, here's one tip if you don't know it already: always spring for the most expensive ownerships you can afford and wait until Sundays to make the purchases because that's when you'll have the most money.

Well, I got to about 4 weeks and was doing well. Then Eftyen posted a mind-blowing score in Perfectly Happy that pushed me down a spot. And I've got a sinking feeling that my downward movement in that tournament is not over yet. So, I'm bailing out of this and doing some more prep work for the nectar tourney.

I think this challenge hates me. For some reason, for the past 3 Sim weeks, my Sim hasn't been able to collect ANY money from the Partner/Ownerships he has around town. He had all partnerships and the ownerships to Science Facility and Stadium and NONE of them would allow him to get any money.

Am going to start this from the beginning. If something goes wrong this time around, I'm quitting.

Fingers crossed. I'm not a big fan of CC, so any I did have has now been deleted. So there is no way anything can go wrong this time....I hope I didn't jinx it.  :(

Aha! That very well may have been the culprit.

Hi.

Can I start the challenge? I want something new in my game, so a challenge would be great. ;D

Hi lovergirl. Sure, this event is still active. You can also try one of the two 2010 Tournament challenges that will put you in the world ranking.

I'm back to working on this one.  Bill & Melinda are raking in the dough and buying up property like crazy, hopefully I'll wrap this one up soon.

Sorry I've not posted in a while - been very busy. But I JUST finished this challenge - Week 11 Day 1. It was a fun challenge.

Well done, Kaitlin. You clearly have some chops. Maybe you should try your hand at some of the Tournament challenges.

I might. I'm gonna try and relax and just explore more of the game for now. Ever since your performance in the Centurian Solo Challenge, I have been itching to try and complete the guitar star challenge, so that will be my goal for a while. Afterwards I might try some of the Tournament Challenges

Kaitlin, while that Guitar Star challenge is in your crosshairs, don't forget — no cooking and no repairing anything.

Yeah, I know - that's why I created a second sim to do everything around the house. All  my other sim has to do is play compositions.

I'm all done buying the businesses, I'm guessing I'll have the trinkets done soon.  Just got 3 more items to buy, the most expensive ones of course. :P

This might be a silly question but just to clarify - when you say no other revenue streams, does that mean just no other career tracks or does it mean you cannot make money any other way at all?

I am thinking of trying this challenge out.  Unfortunately I don't have WA just yet so I can't start on the official tourney challenges.  I was also thinking about trying the Baby making challenge although it was pointed out that there may be a ceiling score so I don't know...

Business is it. That's your only source of revenue.

This one is going to the Graveyard board soon, but I think I'm going to play it.  It will be very different from what I normally like to play, which is usually lots of gardening, fishing, and toddlers.  ;D

Edit:  And wow, I'm doing horribly!  I built a very sad house that just wasn't working, so I moved them to a beach bungalow so they could be closer to town and have some neighbors (and windows).  That set me back over $6,000 and I haven't bought anything required in the challenge yet.  Gah!

Too bad Pam, I bought one of my favorite starting houses that I knew would work quite well for this challenge, but good luck!

I don't quite remember which week my sims are in but they own almost everything in town...

Pam, I didn't buy any of the trinkets until I was able to own all the properties, it seemed to work out ok but obviously I didn't have a very quick time either.
