Hidden Traits Revealed

Hidden Traits Revealed

I was searching for ages (okey, simdays) to find a way to reveal the hidden traits of a sim. Normally you could only see if your sim has one by making the sim doing the interaction that belongs to the trait, such as sneaking somewhere for sims with the burglar hidden trait.
But now, with Generations there is a much easier way to see the hidden traits of a sim.

1 Turn on the cheat: Testingcheatsenabled true.
2 Than Shift+Click the sim with a hidden trait.
3 Choose the option: Edit Sim in Create a Sim.
4 Change the age of the sim: Toddler, Child, Teen, Young Adult, Adult or Elder.
5 A popup on the right side of the screen will give the following information: Younger Sims cannot select as many traits. The following traits have been removed:' followed by a selection of traits, hidden traits and Lifetime Rewards that has been removed from your sim.
Click the X button to go back to your sim without having a trait removed.

In the image below you can see that the game makes no difference between what we call as either Traits, Hidden Traits or Lifetime Rewards.

In the image below I have shown a sim who do have the three hidden traits from all foreign countries that came with World Adventures: Chinese, Egyptian and French. She does eat with chopsticks mostly and she can sing two songs from China and two from Egypt. Though, the game doesn't seem to calculate foreign hidden traits as hidden traits as you can see in the following picture:

EDIT: 28-10-2011. This doesn't work anymore after installing Pets. :(

This sounds cool Leto, but both of those images are too small to read the writing. Can you zoom it in for me?

hmmm well I would do it with a program like photoshop, but that's a little difficult.
If I squint I can make out a few words or lines now that I concentrate extra hard, so don't worry too much about it unless others come up with a better way of zooming in :)

Ah yes, of course I could (and did) use Photoshop. I've already changed it Pallyn and added it to the first topic so it looks like you didn't read it well before you've posted. :P (hehe)
I thought you mean zooming in within the forum.

My sim has the Rocker trait apparently, she is always playing air guitar. That might be a good way of checking if she does.

I just saw this in my game as well. Although I was suprised. I was getting a YA Copy of an Elder from another Household in my Legacy Save File, she was related to the main bloodline, so when it said 'Makes no Messes' has been removed I was suprised because I had exported the main family to a new Save File and lost the original Maid so it carried on through the save files.

Totally correct and very neatly done with zooming in, Leto! Cool way to find out what traits your Sim does, or doesn't have. ;)

??? I never understood these hidden traits... can you get them with a certain action? Is a sim already born with them? If I age up my toddler up to elder and then back to toddler, will I get the hidden traits, he will get? Can you explain hidden traits for me? :$ sorry, never understood them ;)

A hidden trait is unlocked normally through an NPC. So an NPC Fireman, the ones from the phone, if your Sim was to marry and reproduce with said NPC Fireman the Child has the chance of inheriting one of the Hidden Traits (A Bonus Trait that is hidden), Pyromaniac (Can cause flames to flare but not actually start a fire) or Immune to Fire (Never dies in Fire). Hidden traits have to be inherited. A Maid gives the trait, Makes no Messes, which is really usefull.

Here is the Link to the Guide Page on Hidden Traits.

Another thing that comes with children of firefighters is the fact they appreciate the warmth of fireplaces more. Where normal sims will get a +20 moodlet, those heat maniacs like it with +40.

Nop, that's not for starter sims. But you can make your next generation be a rocker. Just bring your sim up to level 10 in the music career (and to be sure, do the same with his wife) and start breeding.
I'm writing a story about it which you could learn from. Every chapter starts with a new generation that have more hidden traits than the previous one. Check it out here: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=5657.0

@Widonja: I don't think it will work with those foreign country candles.

There was one for sims 2, and you could open any package file and clone it, and then adjust things like price, environment score etc. It was also how you could recolour things for sims 2. You had to open them in the package editor (PE) and then export the images, and use something like photoshop. I don't know what the ones for sims 3 are like - they all look too complicated to me. I mostly only used it for sims 2 to recolour things (and make some replacement colours too for a medival theme).

Perhaps that's possible, but programs that may support that are mods and therefore not discussable here.

Today I was playing and my family had a baby. The game informed me that the baby was born with the pyromaniac trait. I have never noticed the game telling me when a baby has a hidden trait before. Also could the pyro trait come from her dare devil father.

Interesting. Mayby it's something new for the latest patch or something to inform the gamer about a Duma  charasterstics hidden underneath.
Could you kept me informed about future knowledge about more possible findings according to this?

You get then by having children with Npcs, like the maid or policeperson.

Part of Carl's guide explains it in more detail. It is at the bottom of the page. Here's the link http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/traits/.

Leto,I have a question. I had my decadynasty heir reach level ten in the fire Fighter career so that she is immune to fire will her heir and subsequent descendants also have the immune to fire trait.

The plan is that I won't loose any heirs accidentally to a firey death.

My sim is currently in the music career (symphonic), the only out-of-the-ordinary thing she has done is ask the genie to make her beautiful.  I have read in other threads where no one saw any change in the sim that received that particular wish, and I am wondering if this hidden trait might be the reward, and wondered what it does.

Very interesting these hidden traits!
I was going to have my sim marry an fireman who is not an NPC, but now I am thinking of trying to let her marry an NPC :D

I found this on The Sims Wiki:
Hidden traits Labeled "DNT" come with The Sims 3: Showtime. Sim can't get the that traits except using 3rd party mod. Those hidden traits don't have any effect to sims.
Don't understand what "using 3rd party mod" means though... but maybe you do? :P

"Using 3rd party mod" means utilizing a .package file to alter game coding in a way in which to fix glitches, add new functionality, or both. Example: twallan's Traveler Mod is both, it enables you to see what causes a vacation to fail, and it allows any world to be used as a Vacation World.
So in this sense, it means using a Mod like MasterController to unlock the trait.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I now wonder which hidden traits Sims Wiki was revering too.
And if they can not be added to a sim, why are they in the game? Npc only? Perhaps through breeding, perhaps not. First I like to know what those hidden traits do. :)

Exactly. I have all towns except for LL and HS, as well as a custom town (and UC as well!). This means I could travel to any of them on vacation. I haven't tested it yet, as I downloaded it yesterday and haven't had time to play Sims since then.
