The DecaDees' townie decadynasty - Chapter 02: Run Baby Run

The DecaDee's, a (new) DecaDynasty in Riverview.

I don't want to brag or pretend, not too much at least, but I'm kind of a worldwide master in procrastination. Since the beginning of the year, I've spent hours thinking about Immortal Dynasties and later the Deca ones. I've imagined loads of things... but done not much. This week, by some strange and unexpected circumstances, I decided to get out of my good old comfort zone and to take some actions. I'm very sorry to announce you that you'll have to suffer my prose, and worst, my humor. Thanks a lot in advance to all the dauntless ones who will venture on that path.

English is not my mother language, this is obvious by now. I've surrounded myself with Oxfords and Collins, and I still need to grab the old grammar book. I promise I'll do my best to write as good as I can, but there will be mistakes. For those you find unbearable, feel free to send me PM with corrections. And if you know any good websites, or podcasts, about creative writing and related subjects, I'm looking for those too :-)

Chapter 01: Let me out!

Good morning Miss Shelley, it’s time to wake up… Good morning Miss Shelley, it’s time to wake up…

Good morning Miss Shelley, welcome to Riverview Miss Shelley. We hope you’ll enjoy your new life here.
The day’s going to be sunny, light and shiny. No clouds for you today Miss Shelley.
We suggest you grab a cup of coffee and enjoy this peaceful morning.
Good day to you Miss Shelley.

Constance Shelley opened her eyes in a huge effort. She would never be a morning person, and her inner voice, as misty and rasping as it was in this early hour, could tell her that today would be no good day. The night had been restless. She could still hear, reverberating in the depth of her foggy head, the creepy voice of some invisible maniac that had scared her so much in her last dream. She stood up and, with an unsteady tread, headed for the kitchen and the coffee machine.

The magic of the first cup of coffee! Constance had chosen some Caramel Cappuccino this morning, so warm and comforting in her hands. She felt troubled; the uneasiness of the awakening was still surrounding her. She couldn’t put her finger on it, not yet; she would need a good shower to brush away the last mist in her brain.

She walked to the front room window and stared at the street outside. There was something wrong, she was sure of it now, but what? The street looked so quite…

Then it struck her. “Where am I? What’s this place?” How could she be so dumb, so absent-minded sometimes! How was it even possible that she hadn’t noticed anything for so long, almost an hour had gone since she opened her eyes. The place looked like home, at least she thought it looked, maybe, well… In fact she couldn’t be sure anymore.

“What’s happening here” said Constance.

Good Morning Miss Shelley. How do you find your new home? We hope you like it; we tried to do our best to decorate it to your taste.

The Voice! This creepy voice was back, and Constance understood that she hadn’t dreamed this morning.

“Who are you? Where am I?” she screamed.

We are happy to inform you, dear Miss Shelly, that you’ve been selected for our new reality show, the DecaDee’s.
The DecaDee’s launches tonight, this will be a prime time show on our famous Dynasty Channel. Do you picture this, Miss Shelley
Among all applicants, you’ve been selected. How incredibly lucky you are, isn’t it? Tonight, this is fame and glory for you…
Or at least, this might very well be the start of it. Are you happy, Miss Shelley?

This was too much for the weak nerves of Constance Shelley. She screamed so loud, louder and longer than ever before in her life.

“Noooooo! L E T   M E   O U T  !”

To be continued…

I picked up Riverview because first, I can't stand Sunset Valley anymore. I've used it over and over for the tournament's challenges and I'm bored with it. Then, I reserve Twinbrook for an Immortal Dynasty. This is the world I like the most... at least among EA's creations. And finally, Bridgeport doesn't play well on my computer.  And I don't like the elevators and subways at all.

Constance Shelley lives in a town house on the central island of Riverview. She is bookworm, absent-minded, clumsy, perfectionist and neurotic, and wants to become a professional author. I can identify myself very much to her traits, that's why I picked her. And you can guess what will be the theme of the first collection...

For the next chapter, you'll have to wait because I work slowly.

Aha, now I see it! Glad I didn't ruin anything. ;D

I don't own Riverview myself (too lazy to download, not me -- my bandwidth), so I try to read every story that takes place there. So far, so good! Well done! And I do know your writing is going to be awesome. ;)

Thanks both of you. I'll try to picture the town and it's inhabitants a bit more in the next chapters, if you don't know it. After all, Miss Shelly has to discover her new place of living, right?

I've taken an amazing amount of time to edit those few lines above. So, I need to quit now because the cats are hungry, very hungry! They're going to tear the house down to pieces if I don't hurry.

I'll enjoy seeing how things go with Constance. I considered her for a decadynasty myself, but got distracted by a couple of challenges...

The DecaDees - Chapter 2: Run Baby Run!

Chapter 02: Run Baby Run!

“Let me out!”

“Run Constance, run. Don’t stop baby, run fast and run far,” Constance kept repeating herself as she jumped through the door and sped across the street.
“No need to think, no need to stop. Don’t look back, just run and get away from this mad house.”

Fast and far might have been possible for someone fitter than Constance. Sadly, her frantic run came to a premature stop when she reached some kind of park, breathless.

“And here goes my great escape! How stupid am I, my feet hurt, I’m sweaty, wearing my pajamas in broad daylight, and in the middle of an unknown place. Wow, what a success.” Constance felt lonely and lost for a long moment. So many questions were flying in her mind. “Where am I? What’s this place? And why am I here? Come on, focus girl, focus! If you’re here, you must have come to the place one way or another, but when? Oh sparkling llama, so much questioning and I can’t remember a ** thing.”

Then, slowly, the initial fear of the morning subsided and a much worst idea emerged: “But…who am I?”

Shivering and cold, Constance took the only decision she was still capable of, she retreated to the house and its maniac voice. The brain anesthetized, she tiptoed though the place and checked various objects, a sink here, a stove there, acting like an automat. Anything was good to keep her away from the one question she just couldn’t face for the moment.

After a warm bath, Constance changed herself in some clothes found upstairs. An eerie feeling of déjà vu was submerging her again. Everything seemed new, yet nothing was completely strange either.

Constance went down and grabbed the newspaper. Written words had always had a magic effect on her, soothing the pains, warding off the torments. Words were good for everything, but not today. The place was quiet, thick with silence. No sign of the creepy voice and this absence felt almost worst.
Unable to concentrate, Constance decided to go out and to visit the public library, which she had spotted during her frantic run. Wright Reading Room was carved on the stone pediment. “Bold letters for such a small place,” snorted Constance as she hastily crossed the main hall and headed for a remote corner.

She picked up the first book that she found and took a seat. Not expecting much read the title. “What a program!” she thought, trying to figure out if there was any sign of a mischievous karma in it. The book was not precisely a masterpiece, and so her mind started to wander again. She first noticed an old man seated in front of her. “What a fashionable jacket, but maybe I shouldn’t laugh too much, we wear the same glasses after all”.

Definitely not in the right state of mind for reading, Constance stood up and started to look around the place. Pretending to browse the shelves for a new book, she studied more closely the other visitors. There were some nice fellows for sure, but also some rather unusual characters.

At some point she felt scrutinized, and turning around, she came face to face with Mr. Checked Jacket. The guy looked rather kind and Constance could see he wanted very badly to talk to her.

“Hello! Do you mind if I dare introduce myself to you?” Not waiting any answer, he went on. “My name is Henry McGlum, it’s so nice to meet you. I saw that you gave a try at Not Expecting Much, so courageous. I, for one, can tell you it’s far from being the best book we have here. I’m a member of the Book Club, you see, and I very well remember the week I received it in my mailbox. What a pain it was! I thought I would never finish it. But you know, I’m so fond of books that even the bad ones suit me eventually.” And on he went. Constance learned that he worked as a report processor at Doo Peas, the local business tower, but it was just to pay the bills as he stated it. His dream was to become a writer in fact, and this is where she started to take interest in the conversation.

They shared some passionate opinions about the books they had read and the writers they admired. This little chat went on for a while and Constance could feel the strain on her chest gradually lifting away. On a whim, she confessed him her own foolish dream of becoming some acclaimed author too. There was definitively a bond building up between them and this was doing much good to Constance’s nerves. From highbrow literature, the discussion drifted to more trivial subjects, like her love of the pink color (as if this wasn’t obvious enough, even for old men with thick glasses). Yet, point-blank, Henry asked the most unsettling question: “So, what are your plans for the DecaDee’s? Have you been thinking about some bright strategy already?”

“Wait, what are you talking about? It’s all nonsense. I don’t know what this Deca thing is, and I don’t care.”
“But Constance, you don’t mind if I call you Constance do you, how can you not know? I mean, among all of us, you’ve been chosen, it’s a great chance! We all envy you, you know.”

And in a second, Constance was back in the madness of the day.

The enthusiastic Henry McGlum was cut off in his speech by the disappearance of Constance Shelley. And this time, she was well decided not to stop before she was far away from this hell, even if she had to burn her last breath of fresh air in the process.

But Constance was lucky tonight. No need to break an ankle running with her high-heel boots, a cab was driving down the street. She waved frantically until it stopped and she rushed inside. “Take me away. Go wherever you want but get me out of this town,” she snapped at the cab driver. Then, she let herself sink in the seat and took a deep breath.

The cab drove her out of the city center and started his way to the countryside. After a few miles, the driver turned off the engine. Constance looked out of the window but saw nothing, everything was dark and there were no street lights around. “Why do you stop? Where are we?”
“But we are at the movie studio, Miss Shelley. They’re expecting you. This is where I had to drive you tonight.”

And there, the final blow came.

Good evening Miss Shelley. Nice to see you could make it on time.
I hope you’ve enjoyed your visit of our library today. It was a lovely little chat you had with our dear Henry McGlum, one of the most charming members of our community. Well, I should say your community of course, because you’ve understood it by now, haven’t you? Your part of it all Miss Shelley!

So thrilling, but it’s time to be serious now. We have a prime time show to prepare my dear, and you have to get ready. Our team is waiting for you.

With a heavy feeling of exhaustion, Constance understood she had lost the battle. She surrendered and walked to her destiny.
