Hi Norma!

Yes, maxing out a career means reaching level 10.  Nothing else is required.  (Metro, will you please clarify this in the rules?)

As for the bonus reducer of completing career opportunities, this means that .25 days will be removed from your score for each career opportunity you complete (be sure to keep good notes).  For example, let's say you complete all of the career requirements on week 6, day 3.  This converts to 38 Sim days.  Then say you completed 15 career opportunities.  This converts to 3.75 days (15 x .25 = 3.75).  Metro would remove those 3.75 days from your total of 38 days, bringing your final score to 34.25 days.

I hope this helps.  :)

ummm, now that's where I get confused. In the scoring section of Metro's first post he says that career opportunities are a bonus reducer I take that to mean doing opportunities actually goes against you and that the less of them you do, the better off you will be.

Maybe I'm just not with it today.. lol

Norma

arhhhhh, I just got it. The bonus is a reduction to the time. I was thinking it meant it reduced the bonus. doh, I feel silly now

Right!  The bonus for completing career opportunities reduces your time played.  Sorry it was confusing.

@Pam, thanks for covering for me while I was snoozin'. Twinmum, let me know if you need the whole bonus reducer thing explained any more.

@Kimmy, please wait until Friday to actually do anything with your game. Thanks.

I'm really excited to get started too. I thought I had my plan down shortly after posting the rule set. Wrong. I did a couple tests that revealed some interesting information resulting in a change of plans.

Ooh, I'm glad Twinmum was temporarily confused about the Career Opportunities because I thought it was a negative thing too, and was going to try and avoid them like the plague.  I understand now, though.

Good. Sorry, if it's confusing everyone. It does say right in the goal at the top of the rules that completing Career Opportunities reduces your finish time. If anyone can think of how it can be made more clear, let me know and I'll make an edit.

I was a bit confused by this at first too because  I tend to think of a higher score as winning.  It took me a bit of thinking to realize that since this challenge is a race it makes sense that we would be aiming for shorter scores.  Can't wait to start!

Sorry about that last message.  "Shorter scores"?  (as opposed to tall ones, no doubt).  What I was trying to say was lower scores or shorter times!

I thought so too. Glad that's all sorted.

perhaps saying in brackets "it's a good thing. Don't avoid" would make it crystal clear ;)

I think what I'll say in the top sentence where the Goal is is that completing Career Opportunities improves your score. Nice and simple.

Hey, when I read your post, I was confused because it looked like you didn't write anything in your post. However, when I looked at it closer, I realized that you must have accidentally put what you said inside of the end thingy. Just making sure that you know how to avoid that, right?

Whatever the problem is, I can't see it either.  I tried to edit nobi's post, but couldn't get it to look right.  Not sure what the problem is.

I definitely recommend everyone use Preview before posting to make sure the post looks the way you want.

Actually what I did to make sure that my post didn't look the exact same way, I had to add an extra end quote thingy. I previewed several times to see if mine would do the same, and then tried to fix it. Didn't want to seem like a hypocrite!

I'm providing the same link here as I did in the rule set for the Career section of the Guide. It's very helpful in planning for this event if you haven't seen it already.

I actually had the same confusion as twinmum the first time I read the challenge.  Perhaps if it was worded "completing career opportunities will cut .25 off your time"  rather than off your score.  When it said cut the .25 off my score I thought, but I want a high score!  Then once I realized that there really isn't an actual "score" in this challenge, but rather just time, it made more sense.

Went back and read it again, I think it's the phrase "bonus reducer" that seems confusing.  It's not actually reducing your bonus to complete opportunities, in fact it actually IS a bonus to complete them.

This is totally just a suggestion, but you could rewrite it like this:

Career Opportunities:  For each opportunity you complete it will give you a bonus of subtracting .25 days from your time.  So the more career opportunities you complete, the faster your time will be.

I agree with AriaGirl77, it's that phrase bonus reducer that was confusing for me. Even though I had read the earlier bit about the opportunities being good, when I got to that bit my mind just saw that word reducer and saw it as a negative.

Can't wait till tomorrow to start this one. I've been playing around with a single sim and careers in the last few days. I know actually having a couple will impact a bit on how things play out, but I really only wanted to try a few things so I don't go into it completely in the dark. I'm pretty sure now what careers one of my sims will take and what order. Today, I"m going to try and work out the other one's path (thank goodness for the careers section of the guide here)

I'm in!  :)

This should be a fun one!  Hmm... gonna take a bit of planning though.  Especially figuring out what traits would be good for 4 different careers!

Okay, gotcha on the board. Don't forget about Mid-Life Crisis if you want to go that route mid way through. I mention that because I didn't want anyone thinking they are locked to their original traits for the whole challenge.

Does anyone know if it's possible to have more than one Mid-Life Crisis if you have the reward points?  Or are the traits you choose for their first Mid-Life Crisis permanent?

As long as you have the points, you can have as many MLC as you want.

EDIT: Oh, and AriaGirl, thanks for the editing suggestion. I'll work on it.
