Career Couples' Grand Slam Challenge
« on: February 26, 2010, 06:48:40 AM »
The Career Couples’ Grand Slam Challenge

GOAL:

Both of your Sims attempt to max out 4 different careers to earn a “grand slam.” It's a race against the clock and completing Career Opportunities improves your finish time.

RULES:

  • Stating your intent to participate is mandatory. You will be added to the leader board after posting your intent to participate.
  • After stating your intent you may practice ahead of time as much as you want to get your bearings and your strategy down. But, once you create characters for the real deal, that’s it — you are allowed a single attempt for score.
  • You must be patched up to the most current EA patch.
  • No cheats or modifications allowed.
  • Create 2 Young Adult Sims (Long Lifespan) in brand new neighborhood. Their relationship/gender does not matter. Having children is fine, but you cannot switch Active Households in the Edit Town screen.
  • Move your Sims into an existing house or build one yourself to start. You are allowed to move at any time.
  • Use of the Moodlet Manager is banned.
  • Your two Sims must pursue completely different careers with no overlap (one Sim chooses careers A, B, C, D, the other Sim chooses E, F, G, H).
  • If either Sim chooses a two-track career, only one of the tracks can be maxed.
  • Completing any Career Opportunity improves your final score (see Scoring). Keep accurate notes.
  • Skill Opportunities and Special Opportunities have no impact on your score.
  • The Challenge ends when both of your Sims have completed their Grand Slam.
  • As always, discussing strategy on how to achieve certain goals in this thread is not allowed. If you're unsure — don't say anything.

SCORING:

Grand Slam — Most likely, your two Sims will not finish their Grand Slams on the same day. One of your Sims will be faster and finish before the other. So, your Grand Slam score is the Weeks/Day when your slower Sim achieves their Grand Slam. You'll find the game clock in the white rectangle directly below a Sim's LTW box.

Career Opportunities — Each completed Career Opportunity subtracts .25 days from your time. So, the more Career Opportunities you complete, the faster your time will be.

Post your final results in this thread. Sample post: "My two Sims finished their Grand Slams on Week 6, Day 4 (no need to mention hours and minutes) and completed 27 Career Opportunities.”

I'll take care of the rest for the total.

Challenge Begins: March 5
Challenge Ends: May 16

The Carl's Sims 3 Guide Career Section should prove most helpful to anyone mapping out their strategy in this event. Good luck to everyone!

This Event is Now Closed

Another challenge begins in one week. As always, give a shout if you'd like to participate. Read the rules carefully and ask if you have any clarifications. If should be a pretty simple one — and definitely longer than the handiness race, but not as long as the 100-day events.

As always I'm in - let see if I can finish the nectar challenges in a week so I can start right away on this one.
Really like the idea but just to be clear before I go make a plan for this.
If Sim A takes the career path to become a master thief neither Sim A or Sim B can go for the emperor of evil??

That's correct, Lena. Sim B would not be able to choose either Criminal path if Sim A chooses Master Thief. And if Sim B chooses the forensic specialist tract in Law Enforcement, then that essentially closes off Law Enforcement entirely for Sim A.

I gotcha in the table, good luck.

I'm trying to decide what 3 careers I won't be pursuing. I need to closely look at theoretical max times and a minimum of down time days before beginning the next career. Time to look at the career guide and check out the work days.

------

EDIT: Welcome aboard, Kimmy. Good luck.

Sign me up, please.  I'll probably finish this one before the nectar challenge.  It's going to be hard to pound that one out in a week.

Vacations are fine. To my knowledge they shouldn't impact your score at all which is why there isn't any rule concerning them.

Thats not quite right i would say because you could train your skills on holidays an therefore get promoted a bit faster.

True. But, that doesn't change my feeling that vacations need to be regulated in any way. In fact, you point out a pretty obvious strategical element, so having that variety in there is a good thing.

So let me get this straight, vacations are completely unlimited, we can take as many as we want for how ever many we want? Oh, and I'm in on this one too!

Is there a limit on how much their home furnished can be?  If not, can someone fill me in on the money cheat code?

There's not a limit on how much their home can be.  However, the rule "No cheats or modifications" disallows the money cheat code.  Start a new thread for that question and I'll give you a couple of money cheat codes, as long as you don't use them in challenges.  :)

Okay, why would you even be asking this, Kimmy? Did you read every rule?

I don't understand how to put new Sims in the challenge and have a decent house.  Is everyone starting from complete scratch?  Is everyone going to be building a brand new house for the challenge?  If they move into an existing house are you allowed to sell things inside of it?  I haven't done an official challenge here before.  Just want to make sure I'm doing it right.

Asking questions is fine. I'm glad you need clarifications because anytime someone asks about a cheat, needless to say, I get a little concerned.  ;)

All challenges start from scratch. You're creating 2 Young Adults in this event. Moving into a existing house or building is completely your choice. That's explained in the rules. Selling anything at any time is fine.

Please ask more questions if you need clarifications. Do not start this challenge without being clear given you have one shot.

Oh, I'm not a cheater at all.  I resist even looking up all the codes.  I feel like it ruins the game play.

That's comforting to hear. You should dive into the handiness challenge. It's very short and everyone gets to cheat!!!  ;D (a very unusual exception)
