You just post your final stats in the thread for that particular challenge. "Scoring file" just refers to the game that you play for the challenge, starting after the start date, as opposed to practice runs you might have made earlier.

Thank you very much! I can't wait! ^_^

Hey Metro,

I'm so excited to get into the tournament again this year!
Quick question though about being patched up to current. If I'm patched to current when I start a challenge scoring file, and then a patch comes out while I'm doing the challenge, is it ok not to patch until after the challenge is done, to avoid game breaking glitches with a new patch, or do I need to check for patches each day I play?

The trick to flying is to throw yourself at the ground and miss!!

I realize that there is inherent risk in patching up during a challenge, but yes, you need to do that. I've made allowances in the past for serious bugs caused by patching up such as going back to a save made before patching up.

So placing downloaded lots (say, from the Swap Shop) and placing your challenge sim in them is not allowed? Just to be sure, sorry if it's a silly question.

Metro, Can I Do X?
Yes, you can! No content from the base game and all expansions is out of bounds. If you’re not opening up the cheats panel, and assuming you’re following the General Rules and specific challenge rules, then you can do it. I sincerely hope the amount of questions and clarifications needed will be reduced with this move towards simplicity.

Quick Question - if an EP comes out during a challenge (like Showtime will probably be released during a challenge running through March), do we assume that all content is fair game, or do we assume all content is banned (for a particular ruleset) until you give us further notice?

I discussed the "Edit Town" part of the rules with Metro. From what I remember, the spirit of the rule is to let us alter only the "public" part of the town in which we'll play the challenge. Each Town made by EA has its own characteristics, pros and cons regarding the goals of a challenge. We are allowed to improve this a little bit by adding community features if and only if they are missing, and those are either EA community lots, or the bookshelves if needed.

I think we are allowed to bulldoze empty lots with the idea that we can then replace them by larger lots on which we can plop the extra large EA lots from the Library (example: the Movie Studio, 64x64). So adding a small 10x10 residential lot is probably out of bound.

At the set up of the file, you can only add ready made lots from the Library. They have to be designed by EA and unaltered. You can use the default ones from the Library OR copy paste a lot from another town (ex: the Laundromat from Twnibrook). And that's it, no plopping the movie studio rabbit hole on an empty lot. At least, not at this point. Later, when you play the challenge, you can always add a rabbit hole structure to a venue lot owned by your Sims, providing a/ it's not explicitly forbidden by the specific rules of a challenge, and b/ your Sims can afford it.

This need to be confirmed by Metro, of course.

I am confused by this. Are we allowed to add the movie studio if it's not already in the town or no? Are there specific things we can't add or are all EA made community lots fair game?

All content is fair game unless something is banned in a specific ruleset.

Yes, you can add any EA made buildings that are missing from a neighborhood. The key word is missing.

The Honor System
The 2012 Tournament is all about friendly competition and having fun. The Tournament attracts players of all abilities and competitiveness from casual first-timers to seasoned high-caliber veterans. We all want to have a good time no matter what we’re seeking to get out of the Tournament. Allowing everyone to have a good time means we all need to play honestly — no cheating and no exploits. If you discover an exploit then you must bring this to my attention. If it's discovered that you have intentionally cheated in any way, then you will be banned from the forum on the spot. I have a zero tolerance policy for cheating.
And that's why I never play challenges unless make needs static is allowed!!  ;D Speaking of that, do you think we'll get another challenge like that? I loved the Grim 2 years ago, and I couldn't participate in last years as I didn't want to risk patching up, so I'm hopeful I'll get another chance!

I've completed several challenges on my own since the sims 2 but have never actually participated in a tournament! This will be very fun :) what happens if I can't actually start on the day a challenge is supposed to start? I catch up later or is there a way to make up for the lost time?

Hi iCastl and welcome to the forum.
If you can't start on January 2nd, for example, then start when you can. The only requirement for dates is that you submit your score before the ending date for a challenge.

If it's not mentioned in a ruleset, or the rules in the first post in this thread, and you're not opening up the cheats panel, nor using Edit Town, you can do it.

Less than two days before the kickoff of the new Tournament season. Is everyone pumped up? I know I am. Please read over the general rules again as well as the first two event rulesets and make sure you're clear. Ask questions now if need be. Good luck and have fun everyone. :)

It's currently 12:38 PM on Sunday here. So, is my official start date in twelve hours, or do I have to wait until it's January 2 everywhere in the world?

No, it's whenever Jan 2 rolls around for you.

Just to clarify -- I know Union Cove is okay for the Immortal Dynasty and the Townie DecaDynasty, but is it also allowed for the tournament challenges? I'm assuming it is, but I don't want to play a few Sim weeks and find out it's not.

Hi all,
I can't wait to participate in my first challenge never got the chance for the 2011...

However I need a couple things clarified.

1st: "Life Span" I have pets and all latest patches. I know to set it to long however my defaults on the plumbobs are somewhere middleish are we moving them all the way to the right or is it what ever the defaults are at? I read through the general rules posting but it never seems it was clarified unless i just missed it? the main post says all the way to the right while comments seem to say otherwise.

2nd: "The next, and final, tournament season is upon us." is a statement on the challenge page where the links ect are. so by "Final" it means no more anymore after 2012? assuming the world is still here that is? ;)

3rd: Just wanted to say this site has been an awsome resource for my sim needs!

Hi Kei83 and welcome to the forum!

1: Lifespan: Just set it to Long, don't twiddle with the plumbobs. If in doubt, move it to epic or normal, then straight back to Long, so that the lifespan is correct.
2: Metro is not doing a 2013 tourney, which means it's our last chance to try to beat NancyJ and ClayMask enjoy the challenges he creates.

He's not doing a 2013 cause he and Carl are going to work on a Diablo 3 site. Or maybe it's diablo 2.

Yes, great care was taken by the entire Union Cove developing team to make it eligible for Tournament and Dynasty play, so I will amend the General Rules. Thanks for reminding me.

Diablo II is 10 years old. ;)

Is there a thread to suggest new challenges/tournaments?

I have a really big suggestion of the Random Wishmasters! It should be adopting pets of any kind, whether it's a neighborhood pet, (Story Progression) or through the phone/computer/newspaper, and you can't change the names or use the Attitude Adjustment LTR (the pet version of the Midlife Crisis LTR).

Metro put the proposed challenges thread on the graveyard cause he's already knows most of the challenges for this season if not all.
