Beautiful Buildings--SimsByKate
« on: November 08, 2011, 12:18:15 AM »
For those who are interested, I've stumbled upon this website called SimsByKate.com. It is a website full of the most beautiful homes I have ever seen. And best of all, they are completely CC free. The user has custom paintings, except it's not really CC. Here's a quote about her paintings: "A note: this lot is entirely CC free. The artwork is sim photography of the lot itself or of my real life artwork. (My real life art was converted into sim art by my friend Dawn and my sim then photographed the sim art to keep it CC free). "

Personally, I think this is a splendid website. She does use a lot of EA store content, though. I downloaded her Wildwood Treetop Village (I got the quote from the description of this home specifically) and it is so beautiful. I definitely recommend people taking a look over on her website. There are lots and lots of pictures for each lot, so you will most likely see what store content she uses that you don't have before you download.

In summary, I saw one home and bookmarked it. Just beautiful.

I'm going to ask Carl to look at this.  It will be his decision whether we allow it on the Forum.  We don't normally link to sites with downloadable lots because we really don't know for sure what's in the content.

The author seems to shy away from using CC. I think it's fine. Every download I checked indicated that "NO CC" was used. If it were, it seems she'd say so :) Seems to be a good site with nice downloads. Check it out.

I wouldn't normally link something like that, but I only shared it because she doesn't use any CC. Oh, and did I mention they're so beautiful? :D

I'm going to have to get in touch with Dawn, then. I know some brilliant artists, and would love to have their art in game. If that's not creating CC. If it is - darn. :(

My interpretation was that she creates cc, then takes a pic of it in the game and then just uses the pic so that there is no cc. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think her Friend put her Artwork into the Game via Custom Content, then SimsByKate had a Sim photograph it and used the photographs but removed the CC.

She's known at the sims 3 forum as KateSterling and I have several of her amazing creations.  One of my favorites is the Kama Simtra, an adult themed exclusive club that's amazing.  She has one oriental house that has several of her art works which are beautiful and one of a kind...one of my favorites.  Unfortunately I can't figure out how to get them in any of my other houses. :D  She prides herself on using no cc, just store items and things from eps/sps. :)

To use them, move in a Sim in the house that has the art work you want, place it in household inventory or personal inventory (depending on what you want and where it can be placed) and move out. Your Sim should bring that art to wherever you move him/her after that (you can also move out and pack furniture but that will copy all objects in your household inventory).

Hello!  This is my first post on this site.   :D  I had to join your forum after reading all the wonderfully touching comments here.  *blushes deeply*  You all have made me so happy, I think I could cry.  Thank you so very much!  Also, thank you Judy (bshag) for telling me about this site and thread!

To answer your questions, my lots are indeed CC free.  Yes, the artwork is also CC free.  My friend Dawn made my real life art into CC sim art.  The way I keep it CC free is by having a sim with a high skill level in photography photograph the art.

Thanks again everyone!  You just made my day!   ;D

I think this is a brilliant idea.  It allows you to add something 100% unique to your houses without the inherent issues regarding 3rd party custom content (i.e. having to uninstall it before you patch, and hoping it still works afterward).  Basically, you're adding CC to your lots without adding cc to your lots lol.  It's an ingenious example of "thinking outside of the box."

I applaud your creative work-around!

Kate I love love love Karma Simtra.  So do my sims  ;)

Thanks so much.

Some of my sims are also longing for your other houses.  Every time I plonk one down there is a rush to move in.  They are queueing around the block to view the property and then fighting with the real estate agent.  I keep having to kick people out to get the people I want in the houses.

It's the most excitement Appaloosa Plains has seen in years!

Dear Kate,

Is there any chance of some houses designed as catteries, kennels or stables.  Those sims just seem to get more and more of their favourite pets.  Particularly one lady who lives in Green Tea.  She has a small dog addiction.  It feels like desecration to move stuff around too much.   :)

Banksia,  shortly after Pets came out, I built a home for my legacy family, complete with stables for 3 horses, as well as items for dogs and cats.  I haven't taken the time to photograph and prepare the lot to share yet, but will be sure to share it here once I do.  I'll try to get to it soon but have a lot going on so can't promise when it'll be available.  Thank you for asking!   :)

Kate is it ok to use some of your art in our own builds as long as we give credit to you for it?  It would not be considered cc then, would it, and would transfer properly?  Some patterns folks have created don't transfer which is why I ask.  I love your houses which is really just another art form, but your art work amazes me and would fit in so well in so many different houses.  I get bored with the standard art in base, EP and SP stuff.

Really, Leto?  I can see me now spending hours searching every topic, every thread, every note.  No clue where?  I so want to do that with some of my photography.

Kate, some of the links to your art work are broken.  You get a message that says they don't know which topic you are searching for.  Any way you can repost them on our forum swap shop or your other forum exchange?  I'm particularly interested in the eyes and leaves which are the broken ones.

Thank you Ana.  I'm not sure this would work though.  How would I get a photograph I took in RL into CAP and then turn it into a pattern then photograph it with a cell phone in Sims then somehow transform that into a painting to hang on a Sims wall?  Confuses this old brain.  I have thousands of photos on my pc but not sure how I would make them into paintings like Kate's.  Hers are absolutely gorgeous and crystal clear.

Sorry for my slow reply.  Life has been keeping me very busy.  I do have several more lots done but just haven't had the time to photograph and upload them.  I will eventually and I'll be sure to update here too.

Joria, thanks for telling me about the broken links.  I'll put that on my list of updates I need to make for my website.  However, the links you are speaking of would be for the CC version - sim art made my friend Dawn made into CC sim art by using my original art.  I believe she uses the TSR workshop?  As far as keeping my lots CC free, I use sim photography.  I use the most expensive camera (purchased in Egypt or in the Buydebug menu) and a sim with a high-level photography skill.  Once you have a picture you like, simply drag the picture from your sim's camera onto the wall.  The photos do transfer when uploaded to the exchange/mediafire.  You can also CAS the frames.  Have fun experimenting with different subjects (such as CC art?), photo sizes, photo colors.  I hope that helps.  :)

I do have a new lot to share with you all.  This one is done by my team, CreativeSparks.  We hope you like it!  :)

Wowho, is that a starters house? Looks like a sim start rich from the beginning, living in such a beauty.
Attention fellow members! The forum rules essay is starting soon. You better refresh your mind. ;)

Thank you so much, everyone!  I'm pleased you like our team build.   :)

A fellow member contacted me requesting download links for the cc sim art that my friend Dawn created from my real life art.  (I have some broken download links on my website which are on my 'to do list' to correct.)  Anyway,  I believe these links below should work.
These are not for the jelly fish - I'd have to look for those, if needed.

Flowers 1 : deleted

Flowers 2 : deleted

Leaves 1 : deleted

Leaves 2 : deleted

Circles : deleted

Eyes : deleted

I hope this helps.  Again, these are the CC versions.  I photograph them with a sim to keep my uploads CC-free.

Edit:  I deleted the links after a member kindly pointed out that cc cannot be posted.  Sorry about that! :)

Thanks, Sportsfan!  As you can see, I'm a newb to this forum.  I'm sorry, I didn't realize.  I'll delete the links now.

I was kinda asking the mods too lol cause Im not sure if it's allowed with the new mod rules

Mods are now permitted for discussion when it's on-topic.  However, this had no affect on the custom content rule.  There's simply too much available, and the logistics of allowing such links would be a nightmare.  Nothing would really be "featured," and individual items would eventually be drowned in a sea of links to anything and everything.

Of course, this rule never prohibited the passing of links to such items in PM to members who were interested in it, even when mod talk was a no-no.  So if someone is interested in downloading the originals, you're free to pass the links along that way.  ;)
