Have you mentioned 'Manage The Dead"?
« on: March 14, 2010, 05:28:56 AM »
I don't know if you already have it in your guide, but when other Sims die in the neighbourhood(not from old age) from accidents(drowning, electrocution), you can go to the Mausoleum and select Manage The Dead. There, you can take the dead Sims' tombstones into your inventory. So you basically know where this goes, you can adopt your drowned neighbour. Heh, I have Mortimer Goth. I always thought it was sad for him to drown since he's supposed to be a legacy in the future(uh... past) Sims.

And how about the Part-Time Jobs? Spa Specialists. Receptionists. Grave jobs. Etcetera? Pfft, they call it a Part-Time job but you can't work both Part-Time and Full-Time jobs at the same moment.

I coudln't find anything on Managing The Dead...

Part-Time jobs are mainly for teens or people who specialise in skills like Gardening, Painting, Writing etc. Who need money but don't want to have a full time job when they could be getting better at their skills, instead of working.

The Mortimer in my legacy died as an old lonely man. He divorced once and got 3 illegimate children. He had very bad traits... I would rather have him drown than be like this...

In my first Legacy, Mortimer was the father of the third generation!  No marriage, though.  But it got him a spot in the family cemetary.

He is a distant relation to my Legacy Family (Agnes CoFounders Nephew) he hasn't died yet, no kids, and in relationship with Holly... But Kaylyn had died, Bella has died, the fourth Generation was just born!

He dies alone in my games... Especially since I usually steal Bella from him. :)

That is what my friends and I call "epic win". :) Anyways, I normally take Mortimer in my game and marry him off to my first child or something. I like knowing I've incorporated the Goth family into my household and I also like knowing that they won't have ugly children like Bella and he did in the Sims 2. ;) I mean, not to be rude but their daughter wasn't as attractive as her mother was, and she wore those ridiculous pigtails all the time!
Anyways, so I never knew that the managing the dead thing lead to people who died unnaturally... That's AWESOME! :) I always thought it was just there at random... well I guess I didn't really know nor was in interested in finding out, but now that I know, I might just use that later on.

I think managing the dead will let you get the grave of any Sim who dies.  But, I also think the catch is that you have to know them.  I could be wrong about that, but it seems like the graves aren't available for the Sims I don't have a relationship with.  Even if it's just an acquaintance.

That's not true Pam, because my Sim had a son who knew no one who had died (nor any of their relatives) and once out of curiosity I had him "Manage the Dead" after his work at the Cemetery, however, when the tombstones came up, all of which were people he had never known, I figured it was just something random. I thought it had something to do with his Job so I had clicked on it hoping to see if it would help towards his next raise. That wasn't the case though.

Ah, my characters have hundreds of friends(including in World Adventures), thanks to the completion of all Charisma challenges. My Sims make friends with the neighbourhood, so when anyone dies, I know. Heh.

Your Mortimer Goth drowned?  Wow!  Mine has always died of old age.
Yea, my Mortimer died. Poor him. I thought his dad was cool.

Anyway. To further continue how to adopt the dead (for those who don't already know), grab those tombstones you want, wait for the Science Lab opportunity to bring a ghost to them (if already done before, you can do it again, but for 5k). Bring it to them, you get a the drowned, electrocuted, burned or starved ghost of your sim. You'll have control over the ghost. Then take her.. uhh him.. home to feed that sim ambrosia. You'll get human sim.

I think you can do that with elderly sims, I did it with Cornelia, she died of oldness.

No problem, glad I could help with that.

It almost gets annoying having too many friends because you always get notices that you don't talk enough with all of your friends so you end up getting 'Distant Friends' and most of my Sim's don't have time to invite every single one of them over to fix the problem. So a few close friends is more than enough for my Sim, even if it does make them a little out of the news. (That's why I use the newspaper, however it's not very specific).

That's why we have Lifetime Wishes and challenges that prohibit this Distant Friends thing. I only have Old Friends.

I'm aware, and those things I seldom get because I normally don't remember to, don't have enough points, or would prefer to buy something my Sim would find more useful. :) Anyways I've never really been the outgoing type person so most of my Sims that I like are more the loner type with a few very good friends that they will have and hang around with all of their lives (like me). That way my Sim doesn't get constant messages saying "so-and-so has passed on." Normally by then I'm flipping through their friends while on pause trying to figure out just WHO so-and-so was to them. ;)

That's completely up to you.

Anyway, to add more about managing the dead. If you don't want to control the Sim but want him/her back in the neighbourhood, just take her tombstone home. Then wait for a night the ghost sim comes out and leave a serving of ambrosia around.

Hm that's a good idea, but I've tried that and the ghost Sim rarely goes after it to eat it.

Make sure you serve it early enough. Since Ambrosia never turns bad, you should actually just store it ready in a treasure chest and put it on a table when a ghost appears in your house.

They tend not to eat Ambrosia since they're too busy doing other stuff - like haunting items.

Hmmm, now I wonder if I can have a Sim to go back to his/her original house after adopting the Sim(without using Edit Town). My theory is; after gaining control over a neighbour Sim and feeding him/her Ambrosia, kill his/her and feed Ambrosia to his/her new ghost. Would the newly revived Sim go back to his/her original home or back into my control?

If the Sim died while under your control he will come back to your control after his ghost eats Ambrosia.  I had that happen once and it really startled me.

This will fit great into my guide to the afterlife. I hadn't mentioned it anywhere, so I really appreciate the heads up. Also, you're right that I should represent part time jobs in the career guide. Somehow that passed below my radar.

It was actually one of my legacy family ancestors.  I controlled her all her life and she was buried in the family cemetary.  Many generations later, I made some Ambrosia and took it to the family cemetary to see what would happen.  This particular ancestor ate the Ambrosia, then ran across the street to the family home.  She suddenly appeared on the left along with the current family and I had control of her!  That was my first clue that they go back to their home after they are resurrected.

Ah... Interesting. But what happens if that household is already full before the ghost is resurrected? And what happens when you try to bring a tombstone to the Science Lab when your household is full?
