Lol. I hope that we can control who visits us. I wouldn't want any random person in my game. People from here would be fine though cause I "know" you all lol.

I really do not understand what is so complicated about the SimPort! From what we know, I have a pretty decent view in my head of what it is. Of course, we don't know everything yet, but your sim visiting someone else's game sounds pretty simple to understand to me. We just don't know if it's a rabbit hole, etc. yet. I won't guess if it's a rabbit hole or not, I really think it could be either. I suppose I hope it isn't because I think those of you getting the EP would rather it didn't be. I would rather it didn't, too although I certainly hope it doesn't cause anymore lag or anything especially after half the population have went and upgraded their graphics cards after Pets, that'd just be very annoying. :P

Fez, I hadn't even thought of that. I still haven't gotten a new GC yet, so Showtime better not make things worse!!  ::) I hope not. My problem with the social aspect is simple. There are social games, like Farmville, Happy Pets etc on facebook which are quite fun. But in my opinion, Sims 3 is NOT a social game, it's a one-player game. I don't want to have to start relying on "neighbors" to get stuff done like I do on fb.

I know for a fact that future EPs will just increase the system requirements - it's always like that. And just you wait till we get Seasons.. :P And although I think Showtime won't be one of these really-demanding EPs, it will be fitting in with Generations and Ambitions on that aspect, it still might just surprise us and be a little demanding with the SimPort. I doubt there will be anything to actually increase the graphics requirements though, it doesn't sound to me like there would be, just increased loading times like with every EP and perhaps this SimPort will lag. You never know, though. :)

I really doubt they will force the social thing on us. They forced the memories, but the memories didn't involve relying on other players for anything and it didn't involve having to use sites like Facebook or stuff - that was just if you wanted to share them, which you didn't have to do. This social thing won't be forced, I really think EA know that a lot of players play TS3 to escape from, people in the first place, and they won't take that away from us - the choice to go for it or not will be there. :)

I agree on that. I wish we could get some more info about how simsport wil really work. Because it's so vague it's easy to make assumptions... Any idea's on when we'll get more info? Or de we have to wait untill March?

More stuff might be released. :) Also, isn't the SimPort separate from the social features? I didn't read it as them being the same thing.. Also, isn't it kind of like this with every EP and it's features? We just have to be patient to find out more?

I don't know how simsport and the social features are connected. I guess you're right about the being patient part. That's mostly my problem I can never wait. And in this case it's also because I don't know if I will get it. I've heard so much negative stuff about it on official sims forum that I got a lot of doubts... At first I thought the social media ment that my sims would get an ingame facebook or something and keep in touch with other townies :P Back then I was really excited.

I myself aren't too clear on the social stuff, because you're right - they are very vague about that. It can't be that we can share stuff on Facebook, because we can already do that with the memories, so my guess is that the profiles we made on thesims3.com are going to become a lot more useful and perhaps we will be sharing our sims' lives on there. However, the descriptions given also talk about sims being able to message each other? I still think it will all be connected to the official site.. perhaps we will only be able to connect with our friends from there, and somehow if we have an internet connection, and have enabled the social features, we can contact them as they are 'online' and playing? And chat with them or something? That's what I picture it as, but as these assumptions are coming from very sparse information I'm probably wrong. :P

As for the official forums - they complain about everything. And remember that everyone there has received the exact same information that we have here, they have not got any more knowledge of it than we do, so how can they complain when they know just as much as we do - very little? Really, I bet they'll all end up loving it when it's released. :P

There is no need to be 'worrying' about whether it's a good EP or not right now. Just wait till it's released, and come onto this forum every day and read what people post about it! As soon as the thing is released you'll have a massive influx of commenters telling you all you need to know, and from that you can see to buy it or not. :) Also, call me biased, but I just wouldn't bother listening to the official forums' opinions. This forum is just way better. :P

Yeah that's why I came to this forum. I at least got some help with some problems, instead op people screaming murder and pointing fingers at EA. I mean I can understadn the anger about a problem that hasn't been fixed for two years, but I rather have a solution to the problem... Besides I kinda got fed up with al the negative talk and people being rude to eachother without explaing. So I agree on this forum being better, more friendly people makes the world a kinder place :)

Right back on the topic:
I guess I want to know, because I want to pre-order the game. One because I alwasy do and two because it gives me extra points at my local game store (1500 points gives me a 15 euro discount and for a pre-order I get 100 point extra ;) ). The other thing is that I don't understand why they keep it so vague. So I'm in a bit of a dillema. The smart thing to do would be to just wait and see what people post here :)
And I have no doubt that a lot of people bashing the game now will love it later. They probably just want to be heard.

Oh, I usually wait a few months to purchase the EPs anyways so I can wait till the price goes down. I can see your problem with debating over whether to preorder it or not.. If I were you, I'd just go for it if you like the features mentioned so far. I'm pretty defenite that if you dislike the social aspect they will enable you to turn it off, so don't worry about that. :) SimPort is making your sim go into another sims' game, and then all the stuff about new skills and careers is all pretty clear, so if you like that bit then I'd say go for it, as it is the main aspect of this EP. :) Up to you, of course.
I think they just keep it vague because they actually want us to be deliberating over the specifics, as we are. :P It increases suspense and chance of more people getting interested. I think they just want the specifics of SimPort to be a big surprise, so they aren't releasing too much info. We have two months to go so they will probably gradually release a bit more but you will never get the whole story until when it's released.

Suspence, well it sure gives that. A bit mean if you ask me :P
I guess I'll keep debating a bit longer. They should post some more screenshots and stuff soon. I'm guessing that after that I'll love it enough to go and pre-order it.

I think they confirmed that you can turn it off, so that's good. I was still stuck on the "they let us pay for stuff we don't get to use, if we don;t do simsport" argument.
I am really excited about the new careers, I really missed singing in Late Night, so I'm going to have fun with that! And I have to try out a clumsy acrobat, must be really funny :P
Well if I do pre-order I'll be sure to post about it on this forum! (and maybe try simsport once, just to see)

Looks cool! I wonder how they got all that video though. Some of it is just the trailer without the music but there is others we didn't see at all.  :-\

It looks really cool and funny too and it sims to show movies that go with the screenshots on the sims3 website. I think my curiosity is going to win it from my simsport argument. I really want to try it out :)

Vamp, that video was awesome. I laughed out loud several times, like when the dude fell on his head was funny, also when the guy caught himself on fire was hilarious. Awesome video!

I wonder how big of an EP this will actually be, in terms of Memory and such. I know pets was the biggest EP, since it required new life states, rendering differently, and heavily detailed. My GPU threw in the towel with Pets, so I had to go and get a new graphics card. Maybe, I'll be wrong on this one, and it won't be as big as I thought, but it looks like a very large EP, taking up a ton of memory.

I'm not bashing, I'm just curious, about the EP as a whole.

I doubt it will be more than Pets. Pets had a lot of Content which needed all of it's own programming and new states as you said. So far I would say this will be about average on the performance unless this internet thing takes up a lot.

I do think that simsport will ask a lot of my PC... If internet does take up a bit part you can always try playing without it. I know it helped my game a lot since the new patch.

From the aspects I have read here and on the Sims3 site, the Simport does seem totally optional.  My rough guess is to control who can send a Sim to your town to perform, each game may come with a type of friend code, which would be needed to be used to add the friends that can come to your town.  Using a shortened version, person A has friend code AAA and person B has friend code BBB.  they would have to exchange friend codes to be able to send Sims to each other's towns.  When person A wants to send their Sim to person B's town, a pop up will appear in person B's game asking for permission.  If person B says yes, then person A's Sim will go to that town and perform.  I would have to double check, but I think person can que up actions for the Sim's performance, either during or before, while person B watches.  After the performance, person A's Sim goes back home with whatever the last item thrown on stage is.

That is roughly how I understand how Simport is going to work, along with my speculations.  Friend codes just seem to make the most since to me.  It's either that, or its connected to your friends list on the official site, which could also make since, seeing as that is where you can upload memories to, as well as where achievements are probably recorded.

And those achievements do sound fun.  I look forward to seeing what, if any, rewards there are for completing them.

I think you've made a very good guess, folcon. And that doesn't sound too bad, but I am hoping that we get to at least see our sim's performance. I hope it's more along the lines of a friend code rather than the official site, though. I don't really like to use the official site. I would prefer the friend code because if the official site goes down for maintenance or something, would we not be able to use simsport? However, I bet it will all be done through the official site.

Saw a link from Sims 3's Facebook page. It's called the "The Sims 3 Showtime Katy Perry Collector's Edition." Apparently there's bonus content "unique Katy Perry themed in-game content and an exclusive poster." Is this going to be the limited edition? Or will this cost more? Here's the link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6egOIUF7Vs&feature=youtu.be
