Toddler Skill Books and Adults

I was wondering - if an Adult Sim has the Childish trait and reads a Toddler Skill Book - do they get the Skill Points for reading it?

Yes. That's what claymask did in the writing challenge last year

I'm confused. Anushka said (in the Stop the Presses! Thread, page 13):

My Sim was childish bookworm loner artistic and perfectionist, first she read all toddler books in library (no bonus skills) and get lesson in writting and start writting fiction novel - except that first novel all other she wrote were children books.

And in the HoF update, ClayMask said the opposite.

I was wondering - if an Adult Sim has the Childish trait and reads a Toddler Skill Book - do they get the Skill Points for reading it?

They will get points for it under one condition :  The sim must not have already gained any skill in the normal-aged skill.

Namely :  The first time a sim uses a Chess Table, they will unlock the Logic skill (you may not see it listing on the skill panel though, since you need at least Level One for it to display).

- The game will go through and count the number of toddler books they have read, and adjust their initial skill level accordingly (The Peg Box skill is also checked at this point).

So as long as the sim in question has NEVER attempted any Logic related interaction, reading the toddler books will count towards their skill level.

- As soon as the Logic skill is unlocked though, reading the toddler books has no effect on skill level.

Same applies for Writing and Painting.

When you say "Must never have attempted a Logic related interaction" - this counts as reading a book, right? If you read "To Xor or not to Xor" for a moment before canceling, then reading the Toddler books is worthless, right?

Yes, reading a normal-aged Logic book does count as a "logic related interaction", and will as you say, render the toddler books worthless.

The skill unlock occurs as soon as the sim sits down and starts to thumb through the pages.  If you cancel it prior to that point you are probably safe.
