My Dreamweaver Legacy Challenge
« on: September 03, 2009, 10:26:08 PM »
I just want to brag a little here.  I'm playing the Legacy Challenge and I'm up to the 8th generation!!  Woot!  I've followed the rules as best as I can.  The founder, Cari Dreamweaver, was practically a hobo.  She only had a bed sitting on her property at the beginning.  She showered and ate at the gym.  She found seeds to start a garden, fished, and got a job at the Bistro.  Now her decendants live in a $650,000 mansion and have $2.5 million in cash!  I'm not very creative with designing fancy houses, so I just built the basics and added to it as the need arose and money allowed.  It's three stories tall now and has as much stuff as I can think to cram into it.  And I have 73 Legacy Points so far.

Anyone else playing the Legacy Challenge?  It really is a lot of fun.  There are a whole set of rules you have to follow and a point system for various things your family members achieve.  It's a nice way to play the game a little differently than you might be used to.  The rules of the Sims 3 Legacy Challenge can be found by visiting the official Sims 3 forum at http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/39862.page.

You've got me interested. After just taking over the Landgraab estate with my Gold Digger, I'm saving this game to begin her bloodline. I think I'll take the opportunity to resurrect Geoffrey, or have the black widow marry little Malcolm Landgraab when he grows up. I guess I should get to plantin, cuz that's gonna take some life fruit.

But oh yes, I'm excited to do this. I'll play this challenge when I'm not writing :D

You won't be able to do the Legacy Challenge with the Landgraab estate.  Nor will you be able to use life fruit.  You start with a custom created Sim who is dirt poor, then build up a dynamic family.  By the way, my 9th generation was just born!!   :D

You're right, I forgot those two fundamentals. We need to get all the fundamentals down for people who aren't in the know, like me, who haven't done it yet :) I know sort of how it goes but if I do it I want to be sticking to the rules.

Thanks. I'll start my legacy after I finish this last batch of lifetime wish walkthroughs. Maybe I can complete a couple more of them from within the legacy. I think the first generation's story could be good. I might make them a jack of all trades (a LTW I haven't covered), that goal of getting multiple promotions to level 5 could be helpful for getting cash flowing early on.

Awesome, this challenge seems worthwhile.

And Wow, 8th generation... is it hard to accomplice? I'm thinking of starting my own legacy today.

Edit: Nice how everyone here is a newbie

The 10th generation is about to be born, which will be the end of the challenge.  It's been really fun for me.  I wasn't addicted to using all the cheats, so I didn't have a problem letting the founder live in poor conditions.  You just set your mind to it and do it!  I highly recommend it for anyone who plays Sims 3.

Here's a picture of Winter, the 9th generation heiress.  She's so beautiful and looks so much like the founder, Cari Dreamweaver.  You can see elderly Cari's portrait over Winter's shoulder.  (Click for full size image.)

I'm so excited!  I did it!!  The 10th generation was just born and that means the challenge is over.  What a huge accomplishment and what huge fun it has been!  With the birth of the 10th generation, the restrictions are life.  My 8th and 9th generation have been working on a plan to bring Cari Dreamweaver, the founder, back from the grave.  Read about it on my blog:  http://spoopssims3world.wordpress.com

I'd love to hear comments from anyone!

I've read the resurrection story and find it amusing.

The rules of the legacy challenge state that you can resurrect your sims, but they cannot take part in the legacy itself.
Would be interesting to see granddaddy ghost flying around for 250 years.  ;D

Lots of people have ghosts of the ancestors haunting the family home.  I kept mine on a separate lot across the street and it became the family cemetary, but it was still a public lot.  Once my 10th generation was born, though, the challenge is over.  So, now I can do whatever I want with my 10 generation family.  So far, I've resurrected two more ghosts.  I plan to bring back the entire blood chain through all the generations.  What I mean is, all the ancestors who are the direct blood relation to the 10th generation heiress will be brought back to life.  I'm just waiting on the opportunities from the science lab.  I'll feed them ambrosia and/or life fruit as long as it takes for me to have a Sim from all 10 of the generations alive in Sunset Valley at the same time.  Can you imagine??  Lol.

Grats on completing your legacy, Pam! You were wise to move the graveyard off your main lot. That would be crazy-annoying to have ghosts from 10 generations running around. 'My' ghosts are always running around making meals and breaking showers. If you had all those tombs on one lot just how many ghosts could come out in one night? Surely if there's a limit every night it would hit it...

The ghosts in the family cemetary come out every night.  I've seen as many as 10 at a time.  They come and go all night, so they might all be coming out at one time or another.  I think I have 35 or 40 ghost all together.  They seem to have a social life all their own.  They leave the lot in cars and I haven't been able to find out where they go.  Last night, one ghost had an image of a book and an image of another ghost in his thought bubble.  He was acting excited and jumped in a car, went about a block, switched cars, and then disappeared.  *poof*  He seemed like he was going someplace specific.  It's quite odd and amusing.

I've been taking screenshots of the restored legacy line.  I don't know if I'll be able to get a picture of them all together, but I'll be able to post individual pictures.  I'm keeping the founder on the family lot, but the 2nd and 3rd generation members have moved to a house together, so I don't control them anymore.  I've used up all of my opportunities to restore a ghost and haven't gotten any more yet.

I am currently working on the Legacy Challenge myself and had the funniest thing happen.  The founders wife died and was soon haunting the house and making meals anytime she wanted.  She did not stay put during the day, but would be found napping in one of the beds upstairs.  One of the times she had raided the kitchen, note here that she was a level 10 cook when she died, she made and ate ambrosia.  I almost fell out of my chair when all of a sudden, I had a full family again.  Was tough on the kids when she died for the second time though.  Off I go to play with my legacy some more.......

Happy Simming!!

Yes, I kept score.  But I never saw anyone posting scores.  They were all just writing stories about their legacy families.  I ended up with a total of 89 points.

I started today and took a break from all of the challenges I have been working on because they are starting to drag on and with no aging up and no kids I needed a change of pace.    So far so good.  I need to have someone paint a portrait of the gen 1 before she dies.  I haven't decided if I am going to blog or not I have been taking pictures though.  I've never blogged before. I am afraid that I will spend more time blogging  then playing.

Pam-  How did you balance your time between blogging and playing?  Any guidelines that worked well for you?

At first I thought I'd document the whole thing with a blog, but I quickly grew tired of it.  So many things happen so fast in the game that I just couldn't keep up with the story for a blog.  And honestly, I didn't really care for the other blogs I was seeing.  A couple were alright, but most of them were just odd to me.  As a result, I don't post as often as I would like, but when I do, it's pretty funny or interesting.  At least I hope it is!  Lol.

I say just do what you enjoy most.  If you enjoy playing, then just play.  Blogging can wear a person down sometimes.

I agree Pam.
When playing sometimes a lot happens in a row and you just forget half of it or write a very long blog entry (in my case just this forum)
Other times you can play through a whole 'simweek' and nothing notably happens.

It all comes down to your own wishes really.

I think I might just start a thread in one of the forums and post the big events and the good photos.

Thanks for the advice.  I was starting to feel like the only way to have a great Legacy is to do a huge elaborate blog.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

I have two legacies, my Superbia Matriarchy, and the Ladro Legacy.  My Superbia Matriarchy has 8 generations, though the 8th gen is just at child stage.  I have 69 points.  I log mine at Sims3 Legacy

There's this document someone made to keep track and I can email it to you since the dl isn't working.  I don't know how to set up a dl and give links, so if someone tells me how I can get it up.

I don't know how to set up a dl and give links, so if someone tells me how I can get it up.

I use sendspace for things like that.

http://www.sendspace.com/

It's very simple, just Browse to the file on your computer, Upload File and after a little while you get a download link. Copy and paste that. :)

You can type in your own email address and you will get the link emailed to you, otherwise it's gone when you close the browser window. Also you can register so you can go back and find your files later.
But you don't need to do either of those things. I usually use the email option so the link is saved in my inbox, they won't spam you with annoying newsletters and such.

Of course the link goes dead after a while.

Indeed. I still can't believe I did as well as I did in the Baby Boomer Challenge. Pam really had to lay on the guilt for me to even try that one because I was terrified.  :D But, I'm glad I did jump in. That was one of the best challenges I've ever done and learned so many new skills in the process.

Because I'm curious and I don't think you said anywhere, how long did it take you to complete the challenge, and how regularly were you playing in that time (e.g. a couple of hours a day or whatever)?  Congratulations.  I'm always impressed with anybody who manages all ten generations!  That's a major commitment!

It's been awhile since I completed the Legacy Challenge and I don't really remember how long it took.  I played steadily and I played it a lot (many hours a day).  I didn't play anything else while doing the Legacy Challenge.  My best guess would be that it took me two or three weeks.  It's really not difficult after you get past the first or second generation.  By then, the rules were burned into my head and it was just a matter of keeping everything on track and having enough babies.  One big challenge was that story progression wasn't working very well back then and the town dried up.  I loaded some Sims from the Exchange to repopulate the town and allow my family to find spouses.  That wouldn't be a problem now because story progression is vastly improved with World Adventures and the patches.

Well, I don't have many hours a day to play--and going on vacations isn't going to hurry things up either (plus I tend to use 'pause' a lot).  But if it can be done in two to three weeks, then I'm hopeful that I can manage it over the course of this year!  Not the most worthy New Year's Resolution perhaps, but after a Sims free year, I'd like to have me some serious gameplay again.

It only took you 2 - 3 weeks Pam!?? :o

I must be doing it wrong then lol!! It's taking me forever, which I don't mind. I like my Legacy family. I wish I got more time to play them. :( Ah, who am I kidding, I wish I had more time to play Sims PERIOD!

My Legacy has kind of taken a backseat to the new sim I created for WA. I'm just having too much fun with her!
