I'm having Laura Roslin and William Adama!

Yes I am a sci fi geek!  :D

Once I work out pictures etc I'll try to post a pic. Unfortunately I have to go away this weekend but I'll be thinking of you all happily simming!  :(

Ah, after I Googled her name I recognized her (Mary McDonell) from Independence Day, but believe it or not, I've never seen Battlestar Galactica. Pam dropped her jaw I think when I told her I had never seen an episode of 24.  :D Oh, well.

Battlestar was good but I found it heavy going at times. I enjoyed it at the time and would recommend it to anyone but not sure if it would stand up to repeat viewing, unlike my first love (Star Trek ;) )

We are in the middle of a general election campaign here in the UK so doing a political based challenge is perfectly timed! However I am sufficiently fed up with party political stuff now that someone from outer space seems far more appealing! :D

In case anyone did not see this thread an issue has come up in this challenge for me. The "Get to Know" social for a few foreign NPCs is simply not available. I've learned 4 of 5 traits for the NPCs in question and have become Best Friends with them. Nothing i do can get that 5th trait. With other foreigners learning all traits is quite simple with the Get to Know social. As far as I'm concerned I've done everything I can do on my end and the game just is not cooperating. Unless someone seriously objects I'm going to treat this identically to what happened to Pam in the Career Challenge where her Sim drowned and there was nothing she could do—it's just one of these oddball glitches. And the thing is—I wanted to bring it to everyone's attention because this could very well happen to someone else. If it does then as long as you have achieved the Best Friend status with an NPC and have done everything possible to learn traits, then you have permission to receive the NPC bonus as well as any missing traits that should have been logged in your Charisma journal. It's only fair I think. I'll wait to proceed with my character until some others weigh in on this, but that's my feeling now.

How high was your friendship with them at the time? In my experience 'get to know' disappears after a certain friendship level (I read 25 which I guess is approx the threshold for 'friend'). I encountered this problem particularly badly when I took a certain lifetime reward (may be tmi for this thread to mention which one) combined with my traits and charisma skill challenges made it impossible to get all traits before becoming a friend, even without the lifetime reward it was sometimes quite hard.

Also, if you have a certain trait, which I assume most people will take but I wont mention just in case, if the interaction doesn't appear in the friendly menu, try looking under your special menu. I've found that sometimes it doesn't appear in the friendly menu its in the specials menu if you have the trait for it

Edit: forgot to add - in my view if this is a genuine bug then it should count but its best to rule out all other possibilities first.

It is possible to learn all the traits without  Get to Know (which has never worked for me in learning traits anyway).  Without going into strategy, I have had sims do it.

Well, the good news is my problem is solved thanks to a hint from Nancy (big Metro hugs, Nancy!). The bad news is I literally wasted an entire vacation day becoming acquaintances with 3 NPCs that had been Best Friends by hurling insults at them, quickly grabbing the missing traits with Get to Know which immediately popped up again, and then pulling them all the way back to Best Friends. Unbelievable. It got down to the last minutes of the last day. Nancy, I owe you, big time. It all makes sense to me now that Get to Know would disappear at a certain relationship level, but it just never dawned on me while it was happening and I was scratching my head. Whew!!! I'm glad that vacation is over!!!

A little more clarification on NPCs, especially for those who aren't familiar with all of the regular townies in the game.  Just because someone is in a police uniform doesn't mean they are a policeman NPC.  There are some in town who are regular townies who just happen to be in Law Enforcement.  When you ask about someone's career and they respond with "Policeman" then you have an NPC that counts in this challenge.  If they reply with "Law Enforcement" then it's a townie who doesn't count.

Wow!  Sounds like quite an ordeal Metro.  I was wondering how learning all the traits would go for this challenge, one reason why I haven't even started yet, kinda scares me!  I have had experiences where one of my sims will be at the absolute max bar of friendship level, perhaps even romantically involved, and yet not know all of the other persons traits.  And that's with having a certain life time reward and charisma skill and everything.  I'm really not at all surprised that you had trouble learning those traits while on vacation, happens to me all the time.

So far I have not had any problem with getting all of the traits, but I suppose there is not much we can do with NPC's that only have three or four slots for traits.  I have encountered that one a couple of times.

I'm pretty sure that most NPC's have less than the full amount of traits.

If you are patched up to the latest game update, then you will have no problems with the NPCs having less then 5 traits once they are YA or older.  With that said, if you are playing this challenge, then this is a non-issue because you have to be updated to the latest update.  A couple updates ago, this issue was addressed by EA and resolved.

I'm fully patched and most of the NPCs I've met don't have 5, some only have 2. My pizzagirl and the burglar only have 2, repair technicians, policewoman, lab geek and firefighters all have 3, some of my maids have 4 and some have 5. All my WA NPCs had 5.

I don't really see it as a problem - the rules specify that we score an additional 5% for every NPC that we are best friend's with and know all their traits. It doesn't say we have to know 5 traits for an NPC for it to count. If an NPC has only 2 traits it should still count.

That's correct. If all slots are filled, you get the bonus. Age is irrelevant.

Add that's a wrap. Edward Foley was the last NPC to fall to Blago's charm and power of Charisma. He was #22 and I nabbed him on the very last day of the challenge. NPC score = 22 X .05 = 1.10

The Charisma Journal listed 514 traits learned. The total of all of my Fundraisers over the 4 separate weekends equaled $1,189,918. Divided by 1000 and rounded = 1190. My best Fundraiser yielded 97,787. I was hoping for that elusive 100k. So close.

This was fun. Nice and short.

Forgive me if I misunderstood, but doesn't the multiplier start at 100%? So 100 + 22 x 0.5 = 210%?

100% of your starting score. Everyone starts with a NPC of 1.00 because they have not achieved any score at the beginning. So, my 22 NPCs added 1.1 to my multiplier. 1.00 + 1.10 = 2.10. Understand?

EDIT: Also, was there some reason you needed to quote my picture? Try and please only quote what's necessary to your comments. Thanks.

Finished.
Money earned from fundraisers $1,470,618/1000 = 1471
Traits learned                                                    613
          Total                                                    2084
16 NPCs best friends & all traits known
16(.05) = .8 x 2084 =                                        1667
Final Score (if the calculations are right)    3751

Couple of tough scores to beat there. I'm really need to up my game on the party front, there's so much for my utility Sim to get done in that first week in time for the party. Schipperke must have been averaging over 90k per fundraiser!

This one is really short - only takes a few hours (depending your computer's speed I guess) In previous challenges I've averaged about 1 hour per sim week, will probably be a little longer on this one because of all the socialising but I'll probably do it all in one sitting when I get a chance to start

Not sure what the average was, but the top one was 114,680.  As the guests like to say when they leave, I'm all partied out.
