I read somewhere on the forum that if you sell a house and buy a new one, you can continue to go back to the original house and harvest the garden.  If that's true, I think gardening should be banned - think of all the money trees we could return and harvest with all the moves we'll be doing!

According to the Guide, it takes 12 days to grow a money tree. It's a few days faster if you fertilize it with perfect life fruit, but it's going to take 10 days just to grow the life fruit. Being that we only have 50 days in this challenge, I don't think I'll be in any one house long enough to grow anything of significant value.

Gardening is banned. You're changing a lot by gardening. Whether it's putting down a single worthless lettuce plant or growing 50 Money Trees, you're changing the lot...

Moving/Playing a House
  • You can’t move or change anything for each house/lot. You can only add value to each house with ONE purchased object that has to stay on the lot or in the house.

You could technically garden off your lot in a public area, or on another lot. Of course if you garden on an empty lot you could affect the value of the house your not living in yet. But that would go against the spirit of the rules.

Umm..yeah.  ::) That's the kind of example that bothers me. Do I really need to add that to the rules? Or is some loop hole finding player (no, I'm not saying you're this way, Delgar) going to say, "But, I didn't break any rules."

Maybe you could add it in with the painting/guitar exploits.
If the only objection to gardening is how it will affect lot values there shouldn't be a problem gardening on public or empty lots (without houses) because we can't move to those so you wouldn't be affecting the value of any relevant lots. But if the issue is also that its kinda exploity since you get all the benefits of gardening without having to do the weeding/watering. I actually didn't know that you could plant on public lots or in other people's gardens but then again it never would have occurred to me to try.

Are we allowed to stock ponds? Either on public lots or private lots that have ponds, afaik it doesn't affect the value (I will check).

Exactly. It is basically an exploit. Let me think about how I want to word it. Again, I want as few rules as possible.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to stock a public pond. Going onto someone else's private lot I do have a problem with. Let me think about wording.

-------

EDIT: I changed my mind on the fish stocking. In keeping with the "no changes at all" theme and to keep difficulty very high I added the following sentence at the end of the following rule:

Moving/Playing a House
  • You can’t move or change anything for each house/lot. You can only add value to each house with ONE purchased object that has to stay on the lot or in the house. In addition, you are forbidden to change any public/private lot in your neighborhood.

I've never been able to garden on a lot other than my own.  Any time I try, I get a message that I can only plant on my home lot.  So, how do y'all figure you could plant on a public lot anyway?

I've gotten that message as well. Oh, well. The rule covers all bases in case there is some trick to it we don't know about, Pam.

Thank you. I was just wondering, will there be any restrictions on the world adventure side because my test people keep getting all these opportunities I don't know if I should take or not.

Love this idea. Add me in please.

Just to clarify we are not allowed to upgrade anything?
I get that we can't garden but can we harvest from public lots or houses that we buy that already have a garden (don't know if there are any but)?

Gotcha in the table.

I've never looked at upgrading the cheap stuff in a house in this event as something you can't do. Pam has never specifically told me that either. If that's not the case, then we'll coordinate and clarify that before kickoff.

Yes, I don't see a problem with simply harvesting. You're not changing anything by doing so.

Upgrading anything would be changing the house and violating the "as is" rule.

Harvesting is fine as long as it stays in personal inventory or gets sold.

What about using harvested items for cooking or for bait?

That's fine.  You use it straight from the personal inventory in both cases.

Can we repair stuff? E.g If the sink breaks can the sims repair it without replacing it?

Repairs are fine because they are only returning the house to its original state.  No upgrades, though.

Great, thanks for the reply. Really looking forward to this challenge as it feels like going back to the original sims game with no upgrading and what not. Thanks for taking the time to put these challenges together and working out the rules! Roll on May 7th!

Thanks for the reminder!  I've been upgrading items in my tests, didn't even think about it.

I know someone asked this before, but I don't remember the answer, can we buy produce at the grocery store?  I understand that rubber duckies and bubble bath are out because you have to take them out of inventory to use them.

NancyJ just PM'd me with some interesting info I did not know concerning object depreciation when going from Buy mode to Live mode. So, the following info (in bold) was added to this parargraph—

For your last house you will obviously not be moving, but you can "pretend" you are moving by calling to move before the challenge ends and writing down the worth of your house on the left side of the Move screen. It's mandatory to go back into Live mode after you purchase your final object, and getting your last house's worth via the Move screen accomplishes that.

Thanks, Nancy. :)
